OT - Wisconsin equivalent of MHSAA takes Participation Medal a step further, bans innocuous chants
The Post-Crescent in Appleton, Wis., obtained an email sent from WIAA director of communications Todd Clark to member schools in December, describing what should be considered taunting and disrespectful actions that are unacceptable, including “you can’t do that,” “fundamentals,” “air ball,” “there’s a net there,” “sieve,” “we can’t hear you,” “scoreboard,” and “season’s over.”
I guess dead silence is what they are looking for, or perhaps an increase in FT percentage. Fortunately MHSAA has no plans to follow suit.

LOL
I just finished that documentary. How Avery was not acquitted after seeing that trial will forever be unknown to me.

Or worse, Dassey ending up in prison. "Well, he confessed," disregarding how it is well known that people make false confessions under duress and intense questioning, particularly if they are young. How the authorities can live with their guilt is beyond me.

They're starting "you can't do that" chants in the rival stands to draw technicals.

They are out of the office in mandatory sensitivity training.

They left out the ever popular "Eat My Ass" cheer.
A mighty large omission. Especially in Wisconsin.

I don't mean any disrespect to Americans, buy my god this country is so wussified.

I will be to visit sometime this year, I think. Originally I wasn't going to for a few more years, but just might sometime in 2016. Perhaps sometime later this year in the winter, like July.

I agree we are soft, but someone from a penal (penile) colony probably shouldn't be the one making that determination.
January 12th, 2016 at 12:57 PM ^
Australia is no longer a penal colony.

As far as I'm concerned, you're all still on probation.

And for the record, my kids are too young right now, but participation trophies are definitely not going to be celebrated in our house.

Next thing they'll stop keeping score. And on that note, I'd love to hear from some of you phys ed teachers out there about "non-competitive" games in grade school. What is the point of that?
January 12th, 2016 at 12:41 PM ^
As long as this means that you can recreate the Miller Lite commercial "parody" that the Bleacher Creatures at the old Tiger Stadium made famous, the one where one side of the bleachers chants "eat shit" and the other side chants "fuck you", I suppose I could live with such a rule.
In all seriousness, this is a really stupid move indeed by the WIAA.

Did this really happen? the Bleacher Creatures at the old Tiger Stadium made famous, the one where one side of the bleachers chants "eat shit" and the other side chants "fuck you" Proud of my Motor City!

I live in Wisconsin. I get the joke.
January 12th, 2016 at 12:52 PM ^
so WIAA suspended a female volleyball player for 5 games for tweeting for them to "eat s***"
Also, acceptable chants now include:
- Nice try!
- Better luck next time!
- Good game, mister!
- You can't win 'em all!
- Never give up!
- Stop by later for your participation medal!
- Your mother is a swell person!
- We enjoyed playing you!
- This was fun, let's do it again!
- Be Mine!
- Hakuna matata!
January 12th, 2016 at 12:56 PM ^
But only if you mean them. "Nice try!" said sarcastically could be very hurtful.

Assuming you are an adult, you shouldn't. But peers on opposite sides of a contest should be able to have some fun as long as it isn't crossing the line.
January 12th, 2016 at 1:02 PM ^
But other high schoolers do, and that is who this recommendation (guideline? rule? regulation?) is aimed at. It would truly be sad for fully grown adults and parents to be taunting high schoolers.
January 12th, 2016 at 3:54 PM ^
It's not that rare, though. I've seen parents among those chanting "Airball" or "You Can't Do That" and the like at high school basketball games.
