What a lunatic.
A family member no less?
No worse way to take the wind out of your team's sails then to spotlight what a scumbag and deplorable human being he apparently is..
December 12th, 2022 at 10:07 AM ^
Sounds like he took the wind out of a family member's sails.

I know I shouldn't be joking on a post about something as serious as domestic violence—I read a report that she now wants to erase her complaint.
Still, with apologies, this comment reminds me of one of my favorite jokes: "Let's play carnival. Sit on my face and I'll guess your weight."

According to Beard's affidavit, an officer responded to a 911 call at just after midnight and was met at the door by a woman who identified herself as Beard's fiancée. The woman told the officer that she and Beard had been upset with each other for several days over relationship issues. Asked by the officer if the argument turned physical, the woman, according to police, said yes.
"He just snapped on me and became super violent," she said, according to the affidavit.
The woman said she took Beard's reading glasses from his hand and broke them. Beard, she told police, then slapped her glasses from her face.
Then Beard, "choked me, threw me off the bed, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around, and going nuts" she said, according to the affidavit.

At first I thought it could be another Mickey Joseph situation (just because I'd read he'd got home and it was just after midnight).
Mickey left the house to go interview for the HC job at Tulsa, they moved it to Zoom, so he went home and caught his wife getting railed by some dude...and snapped.
Sounds like charges are going to get dropped.
...but this story isn't the same at all. She called the cops and told them he was doing some crazy shit.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:43 AM ^
Good thing he didn’t go after depth as well.

But Mazi and Juwan!
/s
December 12th, 2022 at 9:55 AM ^
I see your /s but still have a hard time understanding you and OP connecting these events. Are you guys seeing Texas message boards lighting up with this whatabout? If not it strikes me as a weird strawman that hints at some insecurity.
I hope that dude's family is safe and he gets the help he needs and whatever other accountability is appropriate.
(Edit: a word)
December 12th, 2022 at 9:58 AM ^
Yes, this is a very serious situation that is a priority over sports and entertainment. That said, yes, the cesspool that is RCMB is bringing the Juwan and Mazi situations into this.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:07 AM ^
Ah. So they are the insecure ones - figures!
December 12th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
Absolutely shocking I tell you.
December 12th, 2022 at 11:47 AM ^
I just went and looked, damn, you weren't kidding. Much like the incident a few weeks ago with the OSU player throwing a racial slur at Jagger Joshua. Michigan had zero role in the story, yet about half the posts on the RCMB thread about it involved Donovan Edwards. I've never really been one of those "I enjoy that my team's success causes you actual pain" type of fans, but it's gotten pretty hard not to be with their obsession level.
December 12th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
didn't miles bridges from msu just get out of jail for domestic assault?
December 12th, 2022 at 1:30 PM ^
Any bad news in sports is linked to UM in some way, per RCMB. It is really sad living that way.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:45 AM ^
Obviously more details to come but via a cursory reading of the Texas penal code the fact it was against a family member AND involved choking raised it from a misdemeanor to a felony. So yeah, this doesn't sound like a "I took a swipe at someone who yelled something at me" type of assault but instead a pretty violent event against a family member.
Horrible stuff all around and I hope the victim is safe.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:58 AM ^
Strangulation is a leading indicator that the abuser will escalate to homicide. There's been plenty of studies on the subject and I remember seeing a stat that stated a woman who suffers nonfatal strangulation is 750% more likely to be killed by the strangler.
Beard has put himself in the class of the most dangerous domestic violence abusers.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:04 AM ^
Is there more detail provided elsewhere on Beard that would allow you to draw such a conclusion?
December 12th, 2022 at 10:10 AM ^
I thought it was pretty clear that DMill was using aggregate statistics to speculate about Beard.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
Is there more detail provided elsewhere on Beard that would allow you to draw such a conclusion?
probably in the multiple studies mentioned?
December 12th, 2022 at 12:50 PM ^
What? It's statistics based on reported cases, not specific to this situation. It's not that hard to get the point he/she was making.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
They changed the law like that a few years back down here in GA. What would have been a misdemeanor battery involving strangulation is now classified as a felony. Not good, Bob.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:23 AM ^
So battery involving strangulation until very recently was a misdemeanor?
December 12th, 2022 at 10:27 AM ^
Yes, so long as it didn't result in the type of injuries that would've resulted in your garden variety aggravated assault/battery charge.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:45 AM ^
Not much you can say about this one, this is not good for him.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
I would say it's even worse for the victim

December 12th, 2022 at 9:48 AM ^
Beard has released a statement that he does not see how he should be punished in light of Brendan Gibbons and Rich Rod's utilization of additional stretching time. Bold strategy. We will see if it pays off.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:49 AM ^
Without a subversive blue wall on his side, I question the efficacy of this strategy
December 12th, 2022 at 9:49 AM ^
Beard was an assistant at Texas Tech under Bobby Knight for ten years.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:04 AM ^
But Knight would never choke someone
Would he?
December 12th, 2022 at 10:23 AM ^
Sad to say, and no joking manner, but he learned from the master. It was horrible even back then that IU put up with all BK's bullshit in the name of wins.
December 12th, 2022 at 10:37 AM ^
Yeah but even Knight limited his choking to his players.
December 12th, 2022 at 11:17 AM ^
He also restricted showing his excrement only to players - he was classier than Beard in that way
December 12th, 2022 at 9:49 AM ^
"Impeding Breath Circulation" is so double-speak it almost sounds worse than choking, strangling, or suffocating.
December 12th, 2022 at 9:54 AM ^
Yeah, legal language goes a little too far.
December 12th, 2022 at 11:47 AM ^
I think it's an attempt to come up with one phrase that encompasses all those actions (and others), so nobody can say "but I didn't choke her," or "but I didn't strangle her."
December 12th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
The Twitters say that it can also mean clamping your hand over someone's nose or mouth.
December 12th, 2022 at 11:57 AM ^
