the michigan equivalent is 'strangulation', which is a 10 yr max sentence felony.  link here: http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(vradqnrtgspnfekwvegzsvk0))/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&objectname=mcl-750-84

making no comment on the facts, i will say that charging decisions can be difficult, and sometimes it might be the equivalent of our football 'targeting' complaints where it is barely touching - we all rightly think of strangulation as just that, choking someone out and very serious.  however, in the real world sometimes it gets charged when the slightest touch occurs.

Unless something comes along to clear up this thing in his favor, goodbye, Mr. Beard. He will never coach another game again. No chance a school will take someone - very sad for the victim, who I hope gets all the help they deserve. Beard needs help too but he will need to find another career.

Not sure why people in his position ever allow themselves to get to this point in a relationship. I do know someone (up and coming manager) at my former company (I'm retired now) who never seemed like the type to commit DV who was arrested for DV. He just disappeared (likely told to resign). He has found work again but at a far lesser position and pay. Even when it doesn't make the big news, it still has pretty lasting consequences for all.

I mean... who *doesn't* get in brawls with family around the holidays?  A little choking and strangling is to be expected.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July, Flag Day... it's all the same.

Texas message boards (not exactly a reliable source) are suggesting the victim was a daughter’s boyfriend. Hopefully Texas suspends him until this is all sorted out. We don’t have facts yet
