OT: Pistons storm back to defeat Trailblazers 120-103 on the road

Submitted by Dilla Dude on

Did any MGoPistons fans catch this game? Down by as many as 18 in the 3rd quarter, the Pistons outscored Portland 41-11 in the fourth to defeat Portland 120-103 on the road.

Reggie Jackson scored 26 of his 40 points in the 4th, and Drummond tallied 29 points and 27 rebounds.

Tonight's game was the second of a six-game road trip, and the win brings the Stones to 5-1 on the season. It's early, to be sure, but for the first time in a long time I'm excited for the future of Pistons basetball.

6 games into the regular season posbang!!

And "stones?" Please no.

I'm sure there's more excitement on a Pistons blog, but in all seriousness, Drummond is a beast and SVG can coach.

I was saying...I don't like it.

You may not agree, but I wanted to be sure to clear that up. I realize that they're connected...it's not like saying "Big Blue" and referring to Michigan.

I was simply saying I think it's stupid. To me, they're the Pistons or the Bad Boys and really the Bad Boys were just an era of the Pistons more like the Fab Five.

But again, that's just me.

I was streaming the 2nd half in bed. After about 3 minutes of Reggie in the 4th I had to go into the living room because I was laughing uncontrollably at how unconscious Reggie was and I kept waking my girlfriend up.

Andre Drummond is now averaging 20-20 for the season. He has been playing like one of the best player in the league and is only 22. Things are looking up for Dre. I expect the Pistons to sign him for max money and will get it. Worth it for his defense and rebounding.

It's pretty much a given that Dre is waiting to sign his extension next summer so that the Pistons will have more cap space to bring in other players. Saves the team about $13mil by waiting, and then they can use his bird rights to sign him after spending the additional $13mil.

Second win on the murderous West Coast swing. Very impressive young team that plays hard and obviously never gives up!

Also excited for young Red Wings. Larkin was great again tonight and they outplayed # 2 Dallas despite the score. Playoff time could be all icing on the cake in Detroit.

This team is fun as hell to watch. They have the steel and fire that was the Pistons trademark in the Bad Boys and Going To Work eras. Reggie and Dre have just been silly this year.

That was an awesome win, and the Reggie/Drummond combo is going to be lethal all year.  Marcus Morris and KCP have been pleasnt surprises, too.  The bench is brutally thin with the loss of Meeks and Jennings, though, and they'll need someone to step up and provide useful minutes once in a while.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Pistons make a move later in the year if it looks like Jennings' recovery is moving more slowly than anticipated.  Hell, they might make a move anyway considering that there really isn't a viable 5 on the bench that can spell Drummond.  38.4 minutes per game will catch up to the big fella by the end of the year.

Drummond had 10 boards in the last 8 minutes, during which time the entire Blazers team had 4.

Play-by-play write-up was essentially:

  • Andre Drummond defensive rebound
  • Reggie Jackson 2 point basket
  • Andre Drummond defensive rebound
  • Reggie Jackson 2 point basket
  • Andre Drummond defensive rebound
  • Reggie Jackson 2 point basket
  • Andre Drummond defensive rebound
  • Reggie Jackson 2 point basket
  • Andre Drummond defensive rebound
  • Reggie Jackson 2 point basket
  • Andre Drummond defensive rebound
  • Reggie Jackson 2 point basket
  • etc.

I've lived in Vancouver, WA for about a decade and never miss a game when the Pistons come to town! I love the Blazers, but Detroit are my #1 and I was so glad to see great games from Dre and Reggie! You could just feel the energy being sucked out of the arena with each field goal made and turnover forced; what an incredible fourth!

I am a total bandwagon Pistons fan (years they are bad I dont watch more than a game or two) but the team looks fun and finally has some swag with Jackson Drummond and I love Morris; he seems like he was built to play for a team  like Detroit (he is from Philly).  He gives the team an edge for sure verbally and his game has been great too.

Dre is like a more talented version of big ben, plus he can score. He is fun to watch and Reggie, well, where's all the people who were hating on his contract now? :)

But that bench... Our starters can run with anything. We need Jennings to come back and be effective. One injury to a starter and were in trouble.
