OT: NFL Monday night - Discussion - who will the Lions face - Philly or Tampa

Submitted by Amazinblu on January 15th, 2024 at 8:44 PM

It’s Monday evening on MLK Day.  Michigan football is national champions.  Men’s hoops defeated the Buckeyes in A2 with the Fab Five in attendance - and, the Lions opponent for the Divisional round is being determined.

Tampa is host the Eagles - and the winner of tonight’s game travels to Ford Field to face the Lions next weekend.

There’s six minutes left in the first quarter and Tampa’s already built a 10-0 lead.

Are you watching?  What do you think?

Well, assuming this goes the way it's going, not sure if there's much to take away from Tampa beating Philly. They've seemed like an up-and-down team and their run in to the playoffs shows that - struggles with New Orleans and Carolina and a win against Green Bay.

I suppose you can't ask for more than drawing a 9-8 regular season team in the Divisional Round, especially one you already handled on the road.

I suspect if Tampa ends up beating Philly tonight, Detroit is probably close to a TD favorite. I’d certainly be favoring them in that game, but I’m curious how much Tampa has evolved since they played Detroit. 9-8 is still 9-8, but Baker has played some good, occasionally great football down the stretch. He was near flawless on the road at Green Bay, and that’s not nothing.

I’d still take Detroit, but I think Tampa could make it really interesting, depending on which version of them shows up.

Looking back at the box score from that game I was kind of shocked to see our running output. Trying to remember all of the injuries at that time - Gibbs was out and Montgomery was really banged up if I remember correctly - but that was our worst rushing output of the year on a YPC basis. Big day for Goff with 44 attempts.

Definitely feel more warm and fuzzy when I see Detroit pushing a defense around on the ground.

tampa winning, likely to stay that way.

take-aways so far:  tampa can't run the ball.  defense is okay.  not lighting anything on fire.  i'd say its a great draw for the lions.

interestingly, with G-bay seemingly so hot, they have to go to SF to play the niners.  could be we actually have the easier draw after all, even as the 3 seed.

Discussion?

Maybe the discussion should be about the final margin of victory tonight for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Philly's 2023 season goose appears to have been cooked weeks ago.

Can’t say I’ve watched many Eagles games this year (outside of the two against the Giants) but hot damn that defense is straight garbage.

Neither of these teams look as good as the Rams but our pass defense better work on some things this week.  I assume the extra day off will help us.

Is Connor Stalions at the game?

The Eagles collapse is shocking. Apparently there has already been behind-the-scenes positioning to cast blame before the game has even been played. I haven't actually seen much of them since things went south, but the noise around the franchise is pretty remarkable for a team that looked ready to win Super Bowls and looked really good even at points this season.

Guy was seriously the worst. Morningweg, Mariucci, and Marinelli didnt have the talent that Patricia inherited and he either wasted it all or traded it away. His first game when the Jets blew them out on Monday Night Football will probably always be one of the worst prepared teams I've ever seen in my life.

Between that, the ELEVEN 4th quarter blown leads in his tenure, and telling a reporter that he didnt like his posture, he can fuck himself. Asshole

FWIW every time I see a bad defense in the NFL, and I remember that Mike Macdonald has the NFL's best defense and Jesse Minter has college football's best defense, I am delighted at what we had this year and a bit uncomfortable because it's hard not to think that Minter is going to be in demand for a pro job if he wants it.

Just heard Mr. Brightside being played in the stadium in the background of the broadcast.  In the immortal words of Spoonie G:  they bitin' my shit, man.

"Mr Brightside" playing in Tampa just now, and the fans were singing along. No one tell Sparty!

It's a fun song to sing along to, everyone else thinks so, you just hate it because Michigan fans have had the most fun doing it, and made it a thing. Such sad, pathetic people.
