OT: News conf. tonight at 7pm-SC saying indication Tressel's job could be in jeopardy.

Submitted by KingsWolverine on

Sportscenter just had a "this just in" clip, saying Gene Smith has called a news conference tonight at 7pm.   They reported that this is an indication that Tressel's job could be in jeopardy because he knew about the NCAA violatons prior to reporting them to the school.  Sounds like they're not too happy about him keeping the info from them.  I'm sure he'll just get slapped on the hand, but I guess we won't know till 7pm tonight.

Oh, I totally agree.  If this is worse case scenario territory that we're talking about, and Tressel is canned, Urban Meyer would have to be their top pick.  It should be an interesting spring in C-Bus.

@ 08mms - I'm the same way.  I used to be able to root for little brother, as long as they weren't playing Michigan.  Since Dantonio's been there, I can't do it.  With the exception of his hatred for U of M, he strikes me as a fraud.  I would crap my pants laughing so hard, if he were to split for Columbus.

I kind of like that outcome.  I've always despised Dantonio more than I've despised Little Brother's football program in general, and it would be nice to not have to split targetting my hate between Dantonio and OSU anymore.

If you go to http://www.coveritlive.com/ and toy around a little bit, you can set up your own liveblog fairly easily.  I may or may not have liveblogged with friends through a CLE class.  It was more entertaining than AOL Group chats due to being able to embed pictures.  You might need to set up a quick google blogspot blog to host it, but that is relatively easy.

I would be very surprised if he lost his job.  It is probably just the public anouncement of what is going on and what OSU is going to do about it.

The local press in C-bus is not being kind or rosy about this at this point.  I'm guessing if it does start to look like it could impact the program meaningfully the local press will circle the wagons and turn a blind eye.  You dont sell commercial time in C-bus reporting on the fall of the vest if its more than fluff.

If he lied to the NCAA he is getting suspended, just ask Bruce Pearl and Dez Bryant.  The NCAA is weak but they have a problem with being mislead.

"Just for that, Jim, you can't teach your football class anymore.

"Now let that be a lesson to you, and get back out there and sign some more 5 star recruits that may or may not have been convicted of a uniform-sizing underage girl molestation scheme."

When all of my real classwork was basically finished, I took Tressel's class my senior year as an elective.

When I saw that video during one of their games of him teaching it I started laughing my ass off.

He does not actually teach the class, Cooper, Bruce, and some other position coaches do everything.  The fact that he's listed as the Prof is the biggest load of bullshit ever.

Tressel showed up every day to take attendance and crack a joke, then he would leave, every single time.

On the last day of class he was supposed to sign autographs.  Everyone in class showed up with jerseys, pictures, helmets, all kinds of shit.  I didn't bring anything because I couldn't care less.  The fucking guy didn't even show up for it, I swear to god.  The other coaches said he got in late the night before from a recruiting trip (hand delivering Pryor's corvette).  There may have been 20 kids in the class, and he couldn't even show up.

I get the feeling it's more like what Michigan went through when Mary Sue and others were at the presser.  I bet it's more a show of support, and not an admission of guilt.

I'm calling it here.  Tressel knew.  He confronted the Tat-5.  They lied to him and said it didn't happen.  He didn't investigate further.  It's called "plausible deniability"

That's kind of been Tressel's approach throughout his coaching career, hear no evil, see no evil.  That was the defense he made at Youngstown State.  Hell, it's the defense Steve Fisher made when the whole Webber scandal blew up in Michigan's face and we know how well that ended.  If the NCAA digs and finds dirt, plausible deniability won't save OSU or Tressel.

Helps when there's a federal racketeering investigation to add some subpoena power.

The NCAA's Ed Martin investigation was going nowhere until UM convinced the FBI to make people answer the NCAA's questions, too.  I don't see Gene Smith doing anything of the sort to undermine Tressel.

OSU isn't just going to come out and spill their guts about this.  They may come out as Michigan did and claim that they are investigating it further, this is where they are at at this point, here is what they are going to find out.  They support their coaches, players, etc. etc., but news has come to light and it important for the sake of college athletics, OSU, and the Big Ten conference that everything is resolved properly, so on and so forth.

Divine retribution, wouldn't it be great if this was Tressel's downfall. He got away with the I didn't know Clarett was getting paid fiasco plus other things we all know about. It would be kind of Like OJ simpson going to jail for kidnapping instead of murder. He's still getting exactly what he deserves. I hope the same happens for you Tress.
