OT: LeBron James destroys Gregg Doyel

I don't know about you guys, but I thoroughly enjoyed this response from LeBron James:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/06/lebron-james-reporter-question_n_871683.html

More evidence that Gregg Doyel has to be one of the most douchetastic reporters in all of sports.

Some examples of his love for Michigan:

LeBron James is an NBA player. People in Cleveland don't really like him. He's kind of a big deal, I guess.

What does the outcome of the game have to do with LeBron shrinking (or, I guess, expanding)?

I'd agree that LeBron shows some annyoing high-maintenance tendencies, but he's been a good closer on more than one occasion in the playoffs. Doyel is, as usual, chucking bricks and hoping someone notices him. Fortunately for the CBS Sports site, people flock to his articles.

Clearly Doyel missed the 4th quarter in the Chicago series when they were down double digits (12?):

"James and Wade were simply spectacular down the stretch, each scoring eight during a game-ending 18-3 run as Miami wiped out a 12-point deficit to clinch this series."

Lebron hit two three pointers and a deuce from the top of the key. Not a Lebron fan by any means, but he damn sure stepped up.

Yes I know he specifically is referring to the Dallas game, but Lebron is at his best when he's facilitating. Amazing how Gregg didn't ask how Lebron managed to shut down Derek Rose in the 4th quarters against Chicago, or how many people he's defending in the 4th quarters against Dallas. That's hardly "shrinking."

Yes, the question was dumb because the Heat won.  That's the point.  Dont ask dumb questions at a press conference.  LeBron didn't have to be big last night, because DWade took over.  Had LeBron shot the ball nine times in the last five minutes, people would question his decision making.  He can't win with most people, a big portion of this blog included.

Disagree. LeBron has taken over previous games in these series, particularly against Chicago and Boston. To look at one game and make an assumption that LeBron is no longer relevant in these kind of situations sounds like this is more of an anti-LeBron comment by Greg D than a legitimate question. If Greg has watched the entire Heat playoff series, he would understand why LeBron answered that way. In fact, duriong the Chicago series, Wade was all but absent and LeBron or Bosh stepped up.

I wouldn't say he "destroyed" him, but he certainly made it clear which of the two of them knows fuck all about basketball (HINT: it's the guy who doen't have a mohawk in the photo on his twitter page).

One way to see how idiotic of a question it was is to compare the two last offensive sequences the Heat had. In the penultimate one, LeBron bailed out Wade who got stuck, then found Bosh with a laser of a pass that hit Bosh in the sternum, allowing him to get into his shooting motion quickly and in rhythm. I guess that was LeBron "shrinking from the moment." Contrast that with his terrible shot on the last offensive play, where he probably should have swung the ball immediately to a wide-open Chalmers. I guess that was LeBron "showing heart." The only trouble is, the first was a great basketball play, the second a terrible basketball play.

Fuck Doyel. I wish this sort of thing happened more. With sports "reporting" and "writing" at an all-time low because of douches like Doyel, it would be fantastic to have players and coaches take questioners to task a bit more.

So an ultra-pampered, self centered, egotistical, douchey NBA player gives a snotty reponse to a douchey self-important writer who questions his greatness? is this really what destroying looks like these days? Not so much, IMHO.

Lastly, nice up vote you gave yourself.

I'm curious as to what makes LeBron an "ultra-pampered, self centered, egotistical, douchey NBA player". Because he held a press conference to announce where he was going to play ball? I'm only asking because we jump up and cheer and pat each other on the back when an 18 year old kid does it to announce he's taking his talents to Ann Arbor.

i'm stingy with my fucks so i never gave one.

Lastly, to compare "The Decision"- a half hour nationally televised Lebron  infomercial done by a guy in his mid 20's who is a celebrity worth hundreds of millions of dollars and a teenager getting excited to say where he is going to school at his high school are a little different dont you think? Not that either is all that great, but come on.

did you want Lebron to throw the clothes at the ballboy? or perhaps fold them up and place them neatly on the scorers table?

That's not a fair comparison. Lebron gets his moment in the sun everyday on Sportscenter. He's got the media eating out of the palms of his hands every second of his life. I think it's okay for a high school kid to have a special moment with a local news station and his school and family. It's not like every kid is pulling a Jimmy Clausen and having it at the HOF and riding up in a limo.

I can't help but wonder how this guy has a job with a major sports outlet.  Honestly, he seems more like a guy who would be a shock jock on some crappy morning radio show, not a columnist on CBS sports, and it's made me lose some respect for CBS.  But, those are just my two cents on it, but hell, it's probably better then his two cents on anything.

nor the response make me second guess my opinion of either of these two people....both douche bags IMHE. The sad part is the heat are actually going to win the title this year. As much as I hate the state of Ohio, one guy from there I would have liked to be proven right was the Cav's owner when he said Cleveland would win a championship before the heat did.

I couldn't disagree with your stance more. There is not a person in sports I now root harder against than Dan Gilbert. Guy defines douche. I became a LeBron fan because of Dan Gilbert and his comments post The Decision. I would love to see the Heat win it this year to make him look even more rediculous than he already does.

LBJ didn't destroy Doyel, or even come close.  By those standards, Doyel nuked Jim Tressel into the stone age.  Doyel is a great polarizer.  He makes you laugh when you agree with him and become angry when you disagree with him.  I will give him a pass for his work concerning tatgate, Tressel, Pryor, and all things TSIO.

Lebron haters are funny. Kind of reminds me of the Kobe haters 7 years ago.

You can hate on Lebron all you want, fact is he's the best all around player in the game right now. OK maybe he's not perfect but then again neither was Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, etc. Shit neither are any of us. Lebron's "Decision" was only bad because he went to Miami. Had he picked Cleveland or even Chicago he wouldnt get half the hate he gets now.

Part of the reason I want Miami to win, other than most of my family living there, is so Lebron can tell his critics and haters to shut the hell up.
