I am not a fan of Spotted Cow, but this honestly depends on the year for Oberon. Oberon is probably the widest variety year to year of any beer I've seen and some years it is BAD.

This reminds me of the…

This reminds me of the approach with the tennis program when we brought in Bruce Berque, who i believe was also an assistant at Illinois, who at the time was the cream of the big 10 crop in tennis. I believe the tennis program had some success but ultimately fizzled out. Let's hope this works out!

Link? I only see his tweet…

Link? I only see his tweet where it says he's signing (somewhere, not necessarily UM) today.

Objectively

Pippen was an all-star, with or without Jordan. He was 7th and 5th in MVP voting the two years without Jordan. Given there are 24 all stars, he was clearly a top 24 player without Jordan.

Huh?

Lebron rarely beat a good team to get a title? So a 73-win (most all time if you forgot) Warriors, and a dynasty Spurs team that won the title with the same group the next year aren't hard teams? I'm borderline going to mention his 3rd title, a 5-game series against a team with (soon to have) 3 future leauge MVPs.

The only real blemish on his finals record (from my perspective) is the 2011 Mavs series. the other 4, 2 v spurs and 2 v warriors, both dynasties or in progress dynasties aren't a knock for me.

It seems objectively the

It seems objectively the answer would be LeBron, but subjectively it seems the answer is Jordan. Most of the arguments you hear about Jordan are:

-made his teammates better

-terrorized the league

-more competitive

-etc.

The one objective measure Jordan is better at than Lebron is rings, but then the Jordan evangelists discount Bill Russell's 11 rings as the best player on his team.

As far as league competitiveness goes, I think the measure the article uses (returning players minutes) supports Lebron playing in a deeper NBA than Jordan. Also, this twitter thread (cherry picked but still) is hilarious. I think people tend to associate BIll Lambier laying people out with a higher, tougher level of defense but that doesn't equate to more difficult defense to play against.

https://twitter.com/sp0rtstalkjo3/status/979078903498145792?lang=en

Also, Jordan was 6-0 in finals and people will point to that and compare Lebron's 3-5 record but are you really saying if Jordan instead pushed to the finals and lost some (say he went 6-5 making 11 finals, that that would be worse than him being 6-0, with 5 losses before the finals?

As a subjective analysis of Lebron, i would say the 2016 finals is the greatest series a player has ever played. And I'll go to my grave feeling as if he should have been given finals MVP in 2015.

Pretty sure an A&M night

Pretty sure an A&M night against NOVA is a 10-15 point win. Even assuming we are 10% less efficient scoring, that's still high 80s/low 90s and I just don't see any team breaking 75 points on us.

This is the comment that

This is the comment that should have ended the thread. Couldn't agree more. Never rooting for OSU or MSU, but other B1G schools - sure.

So you would say the same

So you would say the same about Harbaugh's congratulations? Pretty sure he has Beilein's contact info.

I would offer an option 4) making a public congratulations can further expose the success to a wider audience.

As many have said, Calipari seems to genuinely have his players' interests.

Indeed. It sounds like you

Indeed. It sounds like you are local to Duluth. Not sure if you curl or not, but check out https://www.hohduluth.org/confirmed-skips/ for next year (this year is booked) if you want a chance to curl with and/or against Olympic champs (and other Olympians). Shuster and George do this every year I believe. Also, doubles as a way to support a good cause.

I liken curling to golf in

I liken curling to golf in that respect, where physical fitness can certainly aid, but there is no doubt a skill element where simply being in great shape isn't going to get you a win.

MN is the correct answer

Arguably, no one burst onto the scene more than the Men's curling team, 3/4 of which are out of Duluth, MN.

upvoting any pro-Vikings comments. WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! SKOL!

Only thing more satisfying

Only thing more satisfying than watching that Wagner ankle breaker on loop is seeing the Izzo press conference? Anyone have that they can post?

Tennis

Is probably the only sport whose replay doesn’t a)take forever and b) interferes in the way basketball does with long standing norms (ie. Defense fouled but it went out of bounds just give it to offense rule described in Brian’s post)

I feel the opposite of

I feel the opposite of optimism, but here's to my feelings being off and your preparations of disappointment for naught.

We actually have 3 spots;

We actually have 3 spots; Smith (Safeties) left to be RIce DC and Greg Frey left for FSU and then the 10th assistant.

ND -2.5

ND is a 2.5 point favorite as the lines for a few games got released this week. Will likely flucuate.

Bloom Bake Shop

On Monroe st (also in Middleton on parmenter) is really good and I slightly prefer it to Greenbish though they are different versions of bakeries so just do both.

Pizza Bruta is good on Monroe also near the stadium. Wood fired style and good salads.

Lazy Janes on Williamson street (Willy st) is good for breakfast

I'm with most

I'm with most here who have said it is very cool. I've been to several Michigan at Wisconsin games and as the away fan (my wife is a UW alum so I've been to my fair share as the home fan), I will say it is one of the coolest experiences in sports. I think it pumps up both teams and agree if this was a 230 (central) start, this would occur after the sun goes down, llights are on and would be a site to behold.

Is there a reason you didnt

Is there a reason you didnt include 2020? We play at Washington and home vs VA Tech?

Start 2 of 3

Amari cooper vs jets

Moncrief vs Carolina

John brown vs Browns

Not particularly surprising,

Not particularly surprising, but about 90% of that list could be considered northern cities, including the entire top 10.

start of the 2nd half

Both GRIII and Burke fouled on made jump shots (GR III's being blatantly obvious) to add to the list.

*10 losses or not

Typo

Beating 3 top 10 teams probably does

So far two of them by double digits (or close). Wisconsin would have two wins each against Michigan, Indiana, and OSU. 10 wins or not they probably deserve a 3 seed with a win today and winning the BTT has a lot to do with it.

Illinois down by 20 at the

Illinois down by 20 at the half to Wisconsin fwiw.

25% is right

It has more to do with where he is coming from and going to.

4* to 5* = 5/4=1.25

If he were to fall back to a 4*, it would only be a 20% drop. 4/5 =.8 (1-.8=.2)

So a 5* is 25% better than a 4*, but a 4* is only 20% worse than a 5*.

If he were to jump from a 3* to a 5*, it would actually be a 60% improvement (and 40% decline if the other way around).

I hate to see that happen

though I would say he is 95% to make a full recovery. It will be a lot of rehab (before and after surgery) but he could be stronger than before. Although you obviously never want this injury, this could improve his overall game. When I tore my ACL, I was able to improve my shooting and also the cerebral part of the game, having to sit and watch basketball up close he will gain insight into tendencies, etc. Wish him the best.

completely agree

I was going to ask because it sounded strange, but SOS is not measured by winning percentage of the teams you play, but based on rankings, BCS or otherwise, right?

I LOL'd.

He lied saying it was tied to the movie at all

Cretin Durham Hall is the private school, not Eden Prairie, so it is a stretch to say Eden Prairie was part of that at all.

wow

I couldn't disagree with your stance more. There is not a person in sports I now root harder against than Dan Gilbert. Guy defines douche. I became a LeBron fan because of Dan Gilbert and his comments post The Decision. I would love to see the Heat win it this year to make him look even more rediculous than he already does.

or not

http://www.mathway.com/answer.aspx?p=calg?p=48SMB102(9+3)?p=2?p=?p=?p=?p=?p=?p=?p=0?p=?p=

This was entered: 48/2(9+3)

I actually agree

It's not that Morris' shot was a bad one, but your best case scenario is overtime, which realistically against a senior-led Duke team we likely have less than 50% chance of winning. I just felt the way we were shooting it all day that a 3 was the shot you had to take in that situation.

And Novak would have had a WIDE open 3. Singler had sunk down all the eay into the lane (rewatched it on DVR in slo-mo) and no one would have recovered fast enough to make it a contested 3. Because Novak was was the guy, I want him taking a 3 for the win. If the option was Douglas (because of his struggles lately) I would not want him taking it.

In order:

1) Novak 3

2) Morris runner

3) Douglas 3

Regardless, this is even only a debate because of how well all those guys played today. It hurts more because we were in it, but worth it to have chance. The team exceeded expectations today.

I heard there is a pos-bang party

could resist. Go Blue!

Couldn't agree more

I just saw the story, thought it was worth bringing the attention of others.

Like has been mentioned a couple times, if this is not true, at least the anonymous internet poster is not so anonymous. If untrue, he will deserve to be fired.

Added a new link to the OP. Local Syracuse reporter, who may now be backing off his claim.

It appears both spellings

are widely accepted.

See Seton Hall

I believe they just beat Syracuse, Villanova, and Louisville in consecutive games, after opening the Big East 0-6

Is that the full list of coaches?

I didn't see anyone explicitly called out as O or D coordinator. is that accurate?

We haven't been a top-5

We haven't been a top-5 football program since week 1 of the 2007 season. Maybe there isn't a point where a team stops being a top-5 program.

While I agree that playing top 5s teams close would indicate some progress, but it becomes meaningless when you follow it up with losses to mid to lower level big 10 teams, in NOT close games.

Also, I didn't realize that being the 11th team in an 11 team conference was acceptable and worthy of keeping your job. As long as you are not below expectations I guess.

WHy is this ok?

Where was this argument when the football team lost to Wisconsin and OSU back to back? That was essentially a team with no seniors who lost to two top 10 teams. That argument didn't seem to fly with football, so why does basketball get a free pass?

The only thing I can think of is there are no expectations for the basketball team and people are ok, or reserved to the fact, that our basketball program is going to perenially be in the bottom third of the big 10.

is that all?

Well good. I feel better

I don't know if i see it

This team plays terrible against the bad B1G teams, and plays actually pretty well against the good ones, but never gets over the hump there. I'd say our chance of winning those 4 (2 vs IA, 1 IN, and PSU) are equal to our chances of losing all 4.

there definitely are comparisons to RichRod

Aside from both coming directly from WVa, they both seem to have gained success with different styles of play than normal successful teams (3-3-5 for rich rod, 1-3-1 defense for Beilein) and both seem to have been good at finding players that werent' very heralded and turning them into good to great players. And now it appears that both had much more success at schools most of us would argue is harder than at Michigan should be. Both had freshman that were forced to play, and then came in and had or are having drastically improved sophmore years (Denard and Darius morris). They both have had little to no success in Big 10 play. Just as Rich Rod failed to recruit and field a decent team defensively, I would argue that Beilein has failed to recruit the necessary height to compete in the big 10 and against the nation's elite teams (Zak Novak should not be your PF). Beielin is 46-63 in his first 3 years. Tommy Amaker was 109-83 at UM.

People are also making the same arguments for why the team isn't successful (too young mostly). Too much of it just feels identical to RichRod's tenure here. IMHO, it would be very hypocritical of Dave Brandon to come to a different conclusion than he did with Rich Rod after this year, which would mean UM's (arguably) second most important sport should be looking for a new head man.

This is starting to feel like

RichRod's first class, only focusing all on defense instead of offense. We currently have 2 offensive commits? Defense was definitely weak, but this seems overkill in the same vein of RR going for offense.

This could be my ignorance

but how do you pass the GMAT? isnt it a test like the LSAT or ACT where you get a score? I didnt realize there was a pass/fail designation.

Umm

It was pretty clearly directed at you.

Pot, meet kettle

Doesn't your signature say it all?
