OT: Hopslam/Thursday Night Drinking Thread
No Hopslam in the Jerz yet...I has a sad.
Starting with a Hopslam too, then probably onto a Bourbon County Barleywine
You lucky bastard. I only managed to get my hands on one bottle of BCBW, and even that was through a trade.
Went to Bells for a draft. Good stuff
I will be enjoying a can of Surly Cynic Ale followed by an Obsidian Stout by Deschutes.
The Cynic Ale was good, and this Obsidian Stout is fantastic. I highly recommend this to my fellow MGoBloggers.
But I did notice a Dogfish Head Punkin and a NH Dragon's Milk eyeballin' me the last time I opened the refrigerator.
Anyone know when Hopslam hits FL?
I paid 16.99 for my hopslam. I have no idea whether mr hiller was rippin me off or not. But you know how it is with addictions
That's pretty much been the Hiller's price since the beginning.
Are your initials AA by any chance?
That's a good price. The very cheapest you'll see is $15.99, but it's usually in the $17-19 range, and I've seen it as high as $22.
The first few years of Hopslam, that stuff would be sitting on the grocery store endcaps for weeks untouched. It was everywhere you looked.
Now, with everyone buying it by the case because it's trendy, it's not even worth the hassle anymore. If I see it, I see it. But after last year, getting laughed at by the Binny's guy when I asked about it because they'd sold out of like a hundred cases in less than two days, I'm done with it.
Hell, it wasn't even particularly good after the second year.
/ Labatt Blue
Just finished the last of the bourbon. Figuring out a new plan.
I agree that hopslam hasn't been as great the last two years. Still really good, but not what it was at first. Here's to hoping this year is a great batch.
the hop rocket is good again. last year was poor as hell, chalk it up to new brewers. but now it's got that fresh, dry hop blast up ya nose and down ya troat
Alpha King followed by Gumballhead
Each of those are a fantastic choice.
I need to get my hands on some Three Floyds beer. Sadly they don't distribute to Michigan.
For me anyway, I am going with a fan fan favorite tonight - the fan being me, of course:
Local place says their distributor should have it here in PA mid next week. I am hopeful thats true. Need moar hopslam
2 White Russians, then probably a Coors Light or two. I did just have Hopslam for my first time on Sunday while in the mitten. I approve!
A couple Caucasians, followed by a couple oat sodas...well, shoot...either that, or a good sarsaparilla, one like Sioux City, and that's a damn nice evening.
American Pale Ale
Brother Thelonious by Lost Coast brewery.
Just finished my first Hopslam of the night. Debating if I should another one on the balcony to get that Michigan cold to do some work for me.
Never had Hopslam. Down in Iowa so I'm expecting/hoping to land some next week. I've heard great things, I hope it lives up to expectations.
Any Chicago folk hitting up a Festibarrell? Riverview Tavern, Roscoe St., Saturday Noon-Close. Nothing but Oak/Barrell aged beers. Some pretty dandy ones listed and some special bottles listed for raffle. (I read Local Option is having a pretty nice event tomorrow, as well, wish I was heading in for that as a prep for Saturday)
Small chance my wife and I will pop in for a bit at some point, the weather is supposed to stink (several inches of snow) and that might keep us at home once we finish errands tomorrow.
Local Option does these kind of tappings every month or two. Usually he also busts out a different bottle list for the events that have various cellared stuff on it too, although not sure he's doing that today.
I don't bother chasing any specific beers anymore. The only limited releases I can always get are from the brewery down the street from me because I donated money to a Kickstarter to help them get running. Other than that, if it's at the store when I'm there, I get it, and if not, whatever, there's an unbelievable amount of good beer on the shelves at good stores in Chicago at any given time that requires no extra effort on my part. Hopefully Hopslam will pop up at a bar I'm at one of these days.
Heady Topper then Abrasive Ale tonight. Two of my faves.
Debating whether I bother with Hopslam this year after the disappointment of last year's batch. At over $20 a six pack in DC area, I'd rather drink Sucks or Dirt Wolf and pay half as much for arguably better brew.
Where do you get Heady Topper in DC/MD/NoVa? Am thinking about detouring through Vermont when we go up to the Maine coast this summer.
My brother bought me a case of Hopslam (I told him to buy me more) and my folks will be bringing it to me when they come out east to visit Grandma hahaha
Left Hand Brewery-milk stout nitro. Probably one of the best beers I've ever had, especially good for cold weather. Maybe later a few New Belgium-abbey.
No hopslam here yet. I'm still drinking the Sucks. On tap pretty close by there's Brewery Humulus, Founders Imperial and three year old BBA Siberian Night.
I have some fresh Zombie Dust so I'll probably drink one of thoseor a Sucks when I get home later.
Love me some Sucks.
Hopslam is supposed to arrive in MN next week. Looking forward to it. Not drinking tonight, but I'm looking forward to trying Great Lakes' Edmund Fitzgerald Porter over the weekend.
No Hopslam in Ohio. Quick question - what''s ABV on the beer? I've been trying to find Dogfish 120 but they won't sell that here in Ohio so I'm guessing if the ABV on Hopslam is close that's why we dont get it here.
Google says 10%.
Hopslam should be around soon. I overhead the clerk for The Anderson's (Maumee) say they'll get their shipment in on Monday. I've definitely gotten 120m IPA in Ohio, but it was in the Akron area. just ask your local liquor store if they'd be willing to purchase a case so you can buy some. Paulken Wine and Liquor in Maumme, Ohio will order it if they can find a distributer for it, and they won't force you to buy the whole case.
I started a 1 gal nut brown ale (all grain) last night, and rolling with some Half Acre's Daisy Cutter Pale Ale right now.
You sure about that? I've contacted Dogfish directly and they say they cant sell in Ohio because the APV is too high and I've gone to several local liquor distributors and they all say the same thing.
FWIW I live in Medina so I've looked everywhere around here for the 120 (Akron included) so if you've got a line on it please let me know where so I can get some.
Those are some backwards alcohol laws in OH. You must not be able to get Bell's Expedition Stout either? That's over 10% ABV too.
I've enjoyed it here for the last couple of releases. Both in pubs (on tap), and sold in liquor/beer stores.
in both Kent and Akron, and I believe the bar/liquor store/deli type place in Kent was selling six packs.
What Pubs/Retail Outlets in Cincy carry Hopslam?
This is an older article, but it might give you a start on places that carry it in Cincy when it becomes available.
Also...a recent article -- and it looks like 1/20 is the distribution date to Ohio.
Now, around me, about 20 miles N of downtown, some of these locations would be primo, especially Whole Foods Mason, where I find myself more often than not, due to the nice beer selection.
