OT: Hopslam/Thursday Night Drinking Thread

Submitted by hart20 on
What are you drinking tonight? I was finally able to get my hands on some Hopslam today so I'm enjoying that to start tonight and will probably move on to something else in a little while.

The first few years of Hopslam, that stuff would be sitting on the grocery store endcaps for weeks untouched. It was everywhere you looked.

Now, with everyone buying it by the case because it's trendy, it's not even worth the hassle anymore. If I see it, I see it. But after last year, getting laughed at by the Binny's guy when I asked about it because they'd sold out of like a hundred cases in less than two days, I'm done with it.

Hell, it wasn't even particularly good after the second year.

Just finished the last of the bourbon. Figuring out a new plan.
I agree that hopslam hasn't been as great the last two years. Still really good, but not what it was at first. Here's to hoping this year is a great batch.

Never had Hopslam.  Down in Iowa so I'm expecting/hoping to land some next week.  I've heard great things, I hope it lives up to expectations.

Any Chicago folk hitting up a Festibarrell?  Riverview Tavern, Roscoe St.,  Saturday Noon-Close.  Nothing but Oak/Barrell aged beers.  Some pretty dandy ones listed and some special bottles listed for raffle.  (I read Local Option is having a pretty nice event tomorrow, as well, wish I was heading in for that as a prep for Saturday)

Small chance my wife and I will pop in for a bit at some point, the weather is supposed to stink (several inches of snow) and that might keep us at home once we finish errands tomorrow.

Local Option does these kind of tappings every month or two.  Usually he also busts out a different bottle list for the events that have various cellared stuff on it too, although not sure he's doing that today.

I don't bother chasing any specific beers anymore.  The only limited releases I can always get are from the brewery down the street from me because I donated money to a Kickstarter to help them get running.  Other than that, if it's at the store when I'm there, I get it, and if not, whatever, there's an unbelievable amount of good beer on the shelves at good stores in Chicago at any given time that requires no extra effort on my part.  Hopefully Hopslam will pop up at a bar I'm at one of these days.

Heady Topper then Abrasive Ale tonight. Two of my faves.

Debating whether I bother with Hopslam this year after the disappointment of last year's batch. At over $20 a six pack in DC area, I'd rather drink Sucks or Dirt Wolf and pay half as much for arguably better brew.

Where do you get Heady Topper in DC/MD/NoVa?  Am thinking about detouring through Vermont when we go up to the Maine coast this summer.

My brother bought me a case of Hopslam (I told him to buy me more) and my folks will be bringing it to me when they come out east to visit Grandma hahaha

Left Hand Brewery-milk stout nitro. Probably one of the best beers I've ever had, especially good for cold weather. Maybe later a few New Belgium-abbey.

No hopslam here yet.  I'm still drinking the Sucks.  On tap pretty close by there's Brewery Humulus, Founders Imperial and three year old BBA Siberian Night.

I have some fresh Zombie Dust so I'll probably drink one of thoseor a Sucks when I get home later.

Hopslam is supposed to arrive in MN next week.  Looking forward to it.  Not drinking tonight, but I'm looking forward to trying Great Lakes' Edmund Fitzgerald Porter over the weekend.

No Hopslam in Ohio.  Quick question - what''s ABV on the beer?  I've been trying to find Dogfish 120 but they won't sell that here in Ohio so I'm guessing if the ABV on Hopslam is close that's why we dont get it here.

Damn....sounds wonderful.

Hopslam should be around soon.  I overhead the clerk for The Anderson's (Maumee) say they'll get their shipment in on Monday.  I've definitely gotten 120m IPA in Ohio, but it was in the Akron area.  just ask your local liquor store if they'd be willing to purchase a case so you can buy some.  Paulken Wine and Liquor in Maumme, Ohio will order it if they can find a distributer for it, and they won't force you to buy the whole case.

I started a 1 gal nut brown ale (all grain) last night, and rolling with some Half Acre's Daisy Cutter Pale Ale right now.

You sure about that?  I've contacted Dogfish directly and they say they cant sell in Ohio because the APV is too high and I've gone to several local liquor distributors and they all say the same thing.

FWIW I live in Medina so I've looked everywhere around here for the 120 (Akron included) so if you've got a line on it please let me know where so I can get some.

This is an older article, but it might give you a start on places that carry it in Cincy when it becomes available.

Also...a recent article -- and it looks like 1/20 is the distribution date to Ohio.

Now, around me, about 20 miles N of downtown, some of these locations would be primo, especially Whole Foods Mason, where I find myself more often than not, due to the nice beer selection.

LET THE HOPSLAM MADNESS BEGIN!
