OT: Have you ever met Craig Ross?

Submitted by JimHarbaughForPres on July 14th, 2020 at 1:39 PM

I personally haven’t had the opportunity to meet the mythical creature known as Craig Ross, but I sometimes think about where I’d see him and what we’d talk about. The most practical location I can come up with is probably catching him at Literati signing one of his books, but the coolest place I think would be traveling in Hawaii and seeing him at a Tiki bar. I’d ask him to share his favorite memory from his days fighting in the Civil War, or perhaps what lessons he learned from living through the 1918 pandemic.

How about you all - have you had the chance to meet him? If so, where, and what obscure topic did you talk about? If you haven’t, what knowledge would you want to extract from that brilliant mind?

Good lord, if this is where we are in July, I don't want to know what December is going to look like if the season gets pushed or cancelled.

I live out of town, but not going to lie, I did pop into Literati to see if I could find an "unapproved" signed version of his books as he likes to do.

Yes.

There's too much fuel in him. The world ignites his fire and he works both ways. When he loves, he loves too much and when he hates, he hates too much. And in between there's so much wage, so much that he loses himself in these moments. And the closer he was, the further apart he wanted to be. He just couldn't get it together, until he met me.

Since all interactions in this world have become digital now then, yes, I've read his words posted here and thus feel like I know his very essence.

I know Craig Ross really well.  He donated a lot of money and I will take care of him.  ;) ;)

I know this is you!  Like you don’t think I can’t recognize your little effort at self promotion.  You certainly know a stable genius when you see one don’t you.

Sure I met him.

For a long time he was a FOC attorney and referee with the Washtenaw County FOC.

I had different clients who appeared before him on various matters over the years.

He also developed and published alimony and child support Guidelines which are still in use today. Talked with him on the phone quite a few times.

Really good guy. Really smart guy.

Yes - a few times at MGo(free beer)GeTtoGethers. First time he was running after Denard Cook  while dad was talking about some Football minutiae. Second time we found out we both lived on Hinsdale in East Quad - me when Rick Leach was besting Joe Montana and Craig when C. C. Little was just starting to spout off some racist crap.

I have not met Craig Ross. But, my son and I sat one booth away from him at Bell's Diner. He ordered the bibimbop. If you don't like Bell's Diner, the communists win.

Many times and each is a greater pleasure than the last. It's not hard. Leave a basketball game and he's by the escalator. Leave a football game by the Crisler exit and he's got some insanely amazing sweater on he pulled out just for this. Come to an MGoBlog event or a podcast taping and he might be there with his notebook.

This is some weird shit.

It just shows how desperate we all are for actual sports.

But thanks, Seth, Phil and probably the rest of my bored friends who read this blog and decided to troll me for the lack of, say, hot topics on the CFL front.

And thanks for the wonderful cheesecake poster of Rosa L. that Robbie Moore sent along. I cherish it.

Go Blue, in any event.

I actually met Bob Ross on a business flight from Chicago to Dallas back in 1989. He was a sergeant in the USAF and talked more about planes, and did not say a thing about oil painting or his TV show. Sad to find out he had passed away from lymphoma several years later.

I have not. But I hope very much to BS with him about Michigan sports in person some day. I always enjoy his WTKA segments. That said, I once asked here on the blog if I could stay with him in Hawaii, and he didn't respond, which I thought was rude.
