Heck, I just live in…

Heck, I just live in Whitmore Lake and dial up would be my only choice.  Got Starlink a year ago and it has worked great.  Plenty of bandwidth.  The ballast roof mount kit hasn't blown off (yet).  Subscribed to YouTube TV and I never have to deal with Xfinity again, thank goodness.

I just have to watch the CC statement and unsubscribe from all the streaming services my wife adds every month to just watch one thing.  Sheesh.

Earlier this season I tried…

Earlier this season I tried to get tickets to USC at Colorado. There were plenty of seats online in the $400 range and just a few on the street at the same price. My number was $200, so I was confident if I waited until kickoff I'd see a sudden drop and get in.

But, at kickoff a funny thing happened: all the tickets online jumped to $2000 each.

My theory is that the brokers somehow had all of them, and they are refusing to let us play the waiting game. They were sending a message to the wait-ers like me: we're not gonna let you wait is out; buy at the price the day before...or else you aren't going. Kinda sucks. I yearn for the days of paper tickets.

I've been wondering about…

I've been wondering about this....will USC keep ND on their schedule as an OOC game when they have to play Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, UCLA in conference?  Of course, this thread is about a 12-team playoff, so 3 losses won't auto-exclude you anymore.  But still, that's a LOT of big games to get up for.

So, in theory, our next 5 games could be:

Nebraska

Illinois

OSU

Illinois

OSU

Right, if we beat OSU, but close and they stay #3 in CFP, we'd be #2 and play them

Hi Joegeo. I lost my dad to…

Hi Joegeo. I lost my dad to Alzheimer's on 8/19 and buried him yesterday. He had 2 degrees from UM, and took me to games from 1970-1993. After that, after I got my own UM degree, I took him. We were there together when Harbaugh hit Kolesar for a 60-yd TD vs OSU in 1985. We were there together when Miam, Fl came back from 15 down to beat us in 1988. We went to 3 Rose Bowls together, including the big one in 1998. I took him to the night game vs Washington last season, and had to practically carry him home in the dark at midnight. The last thing we did together while he could still talk to me was watch a replay of last year's OSU game I had in my YouTube library.  I had plans to go get him 3 times this fall for football doubleheaders: watch his grandson play at Pioneer HS on Friday night and Michigan play on Saturday. I won't get to do that with him now, because sometimes life isn't fair and our loved ones are taken too soon. I don't even know why I'm writing this all down on a stupid message board, but I'm impossibly sad tonight and reading your post really hit home for me. Thanks for doing it and for the charity you support. Alzheimer's is a bitch. I don't need your tickets;I hope someone who does wins your drawing and I will donate anyway. Anything to help me feel better about the world that is now missing my father, and my best friend....

In 1996 we decided to trip…

In 1996 we decided to trip to Columbus and see if we could scalp tickets.  We weren't successful, so we ended up at Hineygate.  It was all fun until Griese hit Tai Streets in the 3rd and the crowd suddenly realized their undefeated, #2 Bucknuts might actually lose the game.  The crowd turned from drunken friendly to drunken dangerous really fast.  We stayed just until the final second ticked off, then snuck out of there real quick and real quiet.  Had to break up a fight on the walk to our car.  Celebrated all night long.  In the safety of our friends house.  Have declined offers to watch the game with OSU people ever since.

Sorry but I fully admit I'm…

Sorry but I fully admit I'm broken from the cumulative effect of the last 16 years.  Since 2018, I haven't been able to watch.  I just head to the gym at kickoff and workout for the entirety of the game.  I kinda feel like it's a lot healthier for me, net net.  I follow it on the phone, but I just can't watch it unfold and have my soul mercilessly ripped out of my body.  If there is a good result (someday there will be), it will be on my DVR and I will thoroughly enjoy watching it; otherwise....delete and move on.  Not a big deal.

My $0.02 is that I'm in…

My $0.02 is that I'm in favor of conference expansion for one reason: I'm just bored of seeing the same games year after year. Yes I'd want to protect MSU and OSU, but playing rutger and Indiana every year?  No thanks. Let's see some new matchups that aren't UM playing the directionals or other fodder. It's just entertainment (unless you own a blog).

Have had a place in…

Have had a place in Cedarville for 50 years.  Love it.

To provide a bit of my opinion of owning these summer places....the more remote you select, the less it will cost you but also the less $$ you will make off VRBO/renting.  Also, the more remote, the better you need to be at DIY.  My experience in the UP these days is that handymen are difficult to come by....they are super, super busy.

Also second whoever noted that if you plan to WFH, you'd better check the local internet before you buy.  Coverage is super spotty the further north you get.

Logged in to second that I…

Logged in to second that I will happily pay for an ad-free app.

Logged in to agree 1000%. …

Logged in to agree 1000%.  You knuckleheads that don't want to wear a mask because "....freedom";  you happy now?  No schools.  No travel.  Fewer restaurants.  No football.  Not to mention the 160,000 family members dead.  Sheesh.

Craig Ross doesn't do push ups.

He pushes the world down...

Normally this is great…

Normally this is great advice to take a very late summer holiday....but this year there are strong rumors that the schools are going to get a waiver and start the new school year early....like by as much as 2 weeks.  As luck would have it, Labor Day falls really late this year, so that contributes to this possible change.  So a late August vacation might not work.

What about for the 2011 game…

What about for the 2011 game (it's the one we won, in case you don't remember...).  I mean, maybe that would break the curse??

Do we know how good they are…

Do we know how good they are offensively without Tua?  We only saw that backup QB once, correct?

Not ashamed to admit I will…

Not ashamed to admit I will find something else to do on Saturday at noon.  Game will be on the DVR if there is a miracle.  I just won't survive having my soul ripped out of my body...again.

Take my upvote you genius, you..

Horrific.  Every family's…

Horrific.  Every family's worst nightmare.  All the best to the Winston family.  Humanity over rivalry, ALWAYS, when something this terrible occurs.

I went up Kilimanjaro last…

I went up Kilimanjaro last January.  It's 19,300ft but 1/1billionth as difficult as Everest.  No climbing, just a lot of walking.  Couple of cold nights of camping (-20F-ish), but on summit day we also descended 10,000 feet back into hot weather.  Glad I went, but anything more difficult than that starts to get real uncomfortable real fast.  I know a couple of Everest guides, and their stories are horrifying.  The discomfort and filth you have to endure for months is unreal.  That people pay so much money to put themselves through it is mind blowing to me.  Go hike in Switzerland or Austria and it will be more beautiful and there will always be copious quantities of beer ready for you at the end of the day.

Yeah, I second this.  His…

Yeah, I second this.  His post game presser was a virtual ad for Coach B and coming to play for Michigan.  Interview is here if anyone wants to see it.

My side job when I was a student was officiating IM sports, including flag football. In 1991 or 1992 I was offered the unique opportunity to officiate the Mud Bowl. Why they wanted officials, I had no idea because in a pre game briefing with the respective captains, I was told in no uncertain terms to pretty much stay out of the game. That was fine with me. I broke up a few fights, kept the game moving, and best of all got to officiate the girls game at halftime, which was a complete mess. Good times.

NFL Network Ugh. I'm overseas and the fees is the NFL network and the announcers are...poor.
Sky is picking up the game in Sky is picking up the game in NZ but it is a 4am kick so nothing will be open. You need to find a "friend" that subscribes to sky sports package and spend the night.
Any MGoReaders living down under and going to Cal vs Hawaii?

Anyone living in Oz or NZ and planning to go to the Cal vs Hawaii game in Sydney on Aug 27?  I am looking for a tailgate !

Did the Milford last year. Did the Milford last year. Spectacular. Recommend doing the double with the Routeburn since you're coming all this way. And I assume you know you need to book your spot very very far ahead, right. I think only 90 people per day can do the Milford.
BIG could learn a lot from BIG could learn a lot from these guys about how to "incent" these refs to get better. They have been really poor.

Truer words

have never been spoken.

Live 16 time zones away so Live 16 time zones away so BTN2Go intl works well for me, even with the delay in when they can air the games not on BTN.

Have used slingbox in the past but pic quality is turrible.

Use HMA and can vouch for it. Great service. Cheap.

Would also recommend trying out simply streaming the radio broadcast for a change. For the cupcakes games this is a nice change of pace that I really enjoy.
I'll play

Ann Arbor

Moved from AA to New Zealand 4 years ago so I get 2 summers every year (the kids don't realize just how lucky they are).  Just had a brilliant summer down here in Jan/Feb/March with a trip to Vanuatu and touring around NZ with some friends that visited from Pennsylvania and Chicago.  Will come to Ann Arbor in July for a month to visit family/friends.  Some time in the UP in Cedarville, maybe Elk Rapids, maybe Gull Lake, maybe Chicago.  Hoping it's nicer than July 2014, which was really quite cool and mild.

Zehnders in Frankenmuth

Early 90's our fraternity didn't do meals on the weekends, because duh.  We were totally broke so usually went with very little food on Saturday, then would get 2 cars full of guys to drive up to Zehnders for Sunday nite all you could eat buffet.  Picture twelve young, large, hungry dudes all at a circular table, eating so fast it was tough for the poor server to keep up.  The servers were usually older matronly grandmother-ly types, and they were always horrified.  One time we went, management came over and asked us to please call ahead if we intended to come again so they could plan better.  The amount of food was obscene.

New Years Even 2000 we were in Sydney getting a meal before taking in the fireworks in the harbour.  Selected a Chinese place with outdoor seating.  My wife was 3 months preggers and suffering pretty bad nausea.  We had just ordered when a little chinese girl maybe 7 years old staggered over to the building wall right next to us and puked her guts out.  Very impressive amount for such a small person.  My poor wife got one whiff of that and she reflex puked into her own lap.  End of dinner for all of us.  The very next day we go out whale watching.  The lady next to wifey gets seasick about 20 minutes in.  Wifey gamely hangs on right until her neighbor turns to her and says "I'm fiiinnne" and blows vomit breath right in wifey's face.  Wifey spends the next hour chumming over the side.  We went back home to Melbourne first flight the next day.

18 years....giving them up

Me and my buddy have sat together for the last 18 years, each with a pair of season tickets, but we're both calling it quits.  Too much $$.  Too easy to use the secondary market.  The PSL is outrageous.  The even years schedules are terrible.  The game day experience is.....blah.  I'm confident Hackett is going to make a good hire, but equally as confident the days of ticket scarcity at Stadium and State are over.
