OT sad: Cassius Winston's brother dies after being hit by train
November 10th, 2019 at 11:19 AM ^
That is just an awful story. They just had a tremendous family experience playing at MSU last week...the three brothers playing together. The Winstons, from all appearances, seem like a fantastic family. Wow...just horrible. RIP.

Say what you want about his school, but Cassius has always been an amazing personality while there. His answers to the media during the Izzo DV and rape allegations last year stand out immensely. Mature, intelligent, warm hearted kid. Prayers for his family.

Horrific. Every family's worst nightmare. All the best to the Winston family. Humanity over rivalry, ALWAYS, when something this terrible occurs.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:27 AM ^
Horrible story. Condolences to the family.

A UM law student was also killed out in Chelsea by an Amtrak train this weekend. Sad and weird.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:29 AM ^
Condolences to the Winston family.
Sad.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:29 AM ^
That is just awful. So sad and tragic.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
Tragic.
I’m too ashamed to point out the name of the train as reported in the Freep article.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
It's an Amtrak train . . . "Wolverine" is just a name, it's not affiliated with our school.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:33 AM ^
Awful. Sincerest condolences to the Winston family.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
Terrible news. Prayers for the Winston family and friends.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:39 AM ^
Tragic and sad. RIP Zach
November 10th, 2019 at 11:45 AM ^
Condolences
Stay CubStrong family.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:51 AM ^
Wow. Going to be hard to not pull for MSU hoops this year on some level. Not saying I will be cheering for them, but probably won’t be rooting against them. What a terrible occurrence.
November 10th, 2019 at 5:32 PM ^
This is sad, and if I could change the outcome I certainly would. But I sure as hell am still going to root against MSU as hard as ever.
November 10th, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
Very tragic news. :(
November 10th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
Just awful and tragic. Thoughts with that family.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
That’s very sad. It’s tough to envision a loss like that. Condolences to Cassius Winston.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
If this happened to a Michigan player, RCMB would be in their glory. RIP to the young man, and I hope his family finds ever lasting strength.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
No, they wouldn't "be in their glory." They're not some different species on RCMB, they're just people rooting for a different school. Get a hold of yourself.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
Right, just like the public shaming they did of Ronnie Bell being emotional after dropping a game tying TD pass in one of the biggest games of the year? The mocking of Harbaugh’s son? No, they are all awful human beings.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:13 PM ^
Holy shit man. Relax.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
Ronnie Bell lived.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
Both MSU and OSU bloggers were very supportive of what went down when Chad Carr was dying of cancer.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
They would not. Even if they would be (they would not), who cares? Why bring it up? Even if it were true, be better.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:32 PM ^
Exactly. In the grand scheme, who the fuck cares?
You're seriously equating the horrific, tragic death of a young man to somebody dropping a ball in a game? Get a grip, man.
November 10th, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
You are a fucking piece of shit.
November 10th, 2019 at 7:42 PM ^
Welp. Northernmich is my first addition to the troll cave.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:16 PM ^
That’s terrible. Makes you realize there is a lot more to life than sports rivalries
November 10th, 2019 at 12:18 PM ^
He should be over it by the time they play Michigan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGg_HTls8ME
November 10th, 2019 at 5:17 PM ^
You are a horrible human being.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:22 PM ^
Wow, that's awful. A freshman in college . . . my sincere condolences to the Winston family.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:28 PM ^
Family, Love, and reality above our ridiculous fan-hood! My heart breaks for this family!
November 10th, 2019 at 1:23 PM ^
Well said.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:06 PM ^
It's hard to mess up "well said".
November 10th, 2019 at 12:32 PM ^
Awful news. Generally, people don't just get hit by trains. Accidents like this typically occur when a person is attempting suicide.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
Please don't ever speculate about suicide. Unless it's 100% certain, it shouldn't even be brought up.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:01 PM ^
This article implies that it was intentional
https://wbckfm.com/albion-college-student-killed-by-train/
November 10th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
The article doesn't imply. It directly says it as was reported by law enforcement / authorities / whatever.
November 10th, 2019 at 3:11 PM ^
That article, as well as the Mlive and Detnews articles, provide the Albion Chief of Public Safety's statement. I don't know why so many people on this Board continue to link to the Freep.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
Do you need a safe space and coloring books to hide from the realities of life?
November 10th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
Why? Doesn’t it actually help to talk about it? I don’t get this line of thinking.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:56 PM ^
Yes, I definitely believe we should talk about suicide when it happens. But until the poster above provided an article that said it was a suicide, it just seemed like an idea of what might've happened.
November 10th, 2019 at 7:38 PM ^
This won't be popular to say. But this is my exact thoughts.
It's really hard not to see this as a suicide.
Or... murder?
I mean the statistics of people getting hit by trains must be incredibly low. Everything about this situation seems off.
November 10th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
Absolutely tragic :-(
Events like these are a great reminder that, while rivalries can bring out the worst in all of us, these are real people. Cassius seems like a great person. My heart is heavy for him and his family.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:03 PM ^
As a Briton alumnus, this hits closer to home than for many of us here. I crossed those train tracks hundreds of times in my time at Albion on my way to and from classes and activities. The main crossing on Hannah Street is well marked. From the Freep article, it seems that this did not happen at that spot, but a bit further towards downtown, and perhaps, reading into the wording, did not happen where a street and sidewalk cross the tracks. It was not uncommon to walk along the tracks occasionally, but it was not usually the shortest distance between any two facilities on campus. I'm saddened for both the Winston family and the Albion College community. RIP Zach.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
Christ that's awful.
November 10th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Can’t even imagine what he was going through to do that, and what Cassius and Zachary’s loved ones are going through today. RIP to Zachary and my prayers will be with the family.
A Michigan law student committed suicide the same way recently. Really just leaves me speechless.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:13 PM ^
I know a family whose teenage daughter did the same. Just awful.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:25 PM ^
I once considered a position with Norfolk Southern. Then I realized the hours on call, but the biggest thing was the probability that I would see several people get killed in that career field.
Condolences go out to the Winston family and the Albion Britons. But also keep the train crews in prayers for the horrors that they witness on the job.
