MIchigan Football Ticket Giveaways

Submitted by joegeo on August 27th, 2022 at 4:49 PM

Bad News: (I usually like getting this first): This is the 5th and final year that I will be doing this as I am transferring the tickets after this season.

Good News: I will do this every week for the first 4 games this year, posting the entry on Sunday mornings and the winners on Tuesday mornings.

This week's prize: Two pairs of 40 yard line tickets (40 rows up) to the Colorado State game on 9/3.

Story: These season tickets have been in my family since Michigan Stadium opened in the 1920s, when my grandfather attended Michigan. My Dad, also a Michigan alumnus, has attended games since the 1950s. I have gone to games since 1990s, but now I live in New York and only get out to a single game each year. My Dad is now living with Alzheimers, unfortunately, and can no longer attend games. To celebrate my father and fathers in general, I have been gifting most of my tickets each year, with 1 game going to the mgoblog community.

Requirements and Rules:
1) You attend the game with your father OR you are a father and attend with your kid.
2) If you win, you make a donation to NAMI: The National Alliance on Mental Illness, a cause important to my father and my family. Donate whatever you feel comfortable with.
3) Enter by replying on this thread. Deadline is midnight at the end of Monday, August 29th.
4) One entry per person each week. I ask that past winners not participate.
5) I'll use a random number generator to pick two winners of two tickets each and announce those winners in a new thread Tuesday mornings each week.
6) Winners will have 24 hours to acknowledge their win and claim their prize by emailing me at @jgmartin82 (it's a gmail address, but I don't want to fully type it out).

Sadly, I never got to visit the Big House with my Dad but we watched or listened to a ton of Michigan games when I was growing up. I've been fortunate to take one of my sons to several games in recent years. I'm hoping someday to take my other son but he has lived out of state for many years now. I applaud your family tradition and think this is a great way to share the fun.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

I had season tickets for 35 years and was hoping to pass them on to my son, but I couldn't afford it any longer. (I wanted to keep it in the family like your family did.) Wish I could have held on to last year's season tickets to go out with a win over osu.

Please enter me into the draw. If me son can't make it, I know my grandson/grandaughter will.

Thank You!!!

I got to talk my Dad, a Nebraska grad and now 98, to the Nebraska game a few years ago.

A special time for us—though maybe a little bit more for me because Michigan clobbered Nebraska.

(Though the family's also got Northwestern grads, Dad's definitely not pleased today.)

So sorry to hear about your dad. I just lost my grandpa, who had Alzheimer's. This is so great for father/ son time! Thank you for doing this. Here is me and my dad, and me and my boys, Dezmond and Braylon at a game. We try to go to 1-2 per year. Go BLUE!

Joe,

My thoughts and prayers for your father and your families.

We lost my mother last year - and Dementia was one condition she was dealing with.  My wife’s father has Alzheimer’s.  We know it too well - and are wishing for strength to all those close to your family and your father.

Your offer is very kind. I’ll share a quick story.  My son and I have attended every Michigan-ND game since he was five years old.  A lot of great memories - UTL games - losses in South Bend - a fantastic win in the rain a few years ago.

My son and I will attend several Michigan games this year - but, as he’s grown, his seating preference has changed.  So, while my wife and I enjoy the “view from Section 42” - our son will be hanging with his “buds” in the student section.  He’s beginning his sophomore year as a student at Michigan.

Again, my most sincere wishes for strength and peace - and conversations / memories of wonderful times together - whenever they are possible.

I became a Michigan fan by attending games with Dad when I was young (9 or 10?). Thanks for doing this, and I'm sorry about your Dad. Mom requires 24/7 care -- and I am that care -- so this isn't an entry for the contest. I couldn't go anyway.

But I wanted to say you're doing a great thing. I like your "rules" too.....

So sorry to hear about your father. I am planning to take my 5 year old daughter to her first game on Saturday, just me and her. I haven't bought the tickets yet, so this would be an amazing story. I'll be making a donation either way since this is such a great cause.

You sound like the kind of person we need more of in todays world. Best wishes to your father.

I have 3 sons who have never been to a Michigan game but I think I’d take the oldest, he’s a teenager.

Very cool, a great way to honor your Dad and family! I lost my dad last year before I ever got him to come to a game in person, but I can’t wait until my daughter can come with me!

Hi Joegeo. I lost my dad to Alzheimer's on 8/19 and buried him yesterday. He had 2 degrees from UM, and took me to games from 1970-1993. After that, after I got my own UM degree, I took him. We were there together when Harbaugh hit Kolesar for a 60-yd TD vs OSU in 1985. We were there together when Miam, Fl came back from 15 down to beat us in 1988. We went to 3 Rose Bowls together, including the big one in 1998. I took him to the night game vs Washington last season, and had to practically carry him home in the dark at midnight. The last thing we did together while he could still talk to me was watch a replay of last year's OSU game I had in my YouTube library.  I had plans to go get him 3 times this fall for football doubleheaders: watch his grandson play at Pioneer HS on Friday night and Michigan play on Saturday. I won't get to do that with him now, because sometimes life isn't fair and our loved ones are taken too soon. I don't even know why I'm writing this all down on a stupid message board, but I'm impossibly sad tonight and reading your post really hit home for me. Thanks for doing it and for the charity you support. Alzheimer's is a bitch. I don't need your tickets;I hope someone who does wins your drawing and I will donate anyway. Anything to help me feel better about the world that is now missing my father, and my best friend....

Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. For sure it's a shitty disease, Michigan games (we watch on tv now) are one of the few things that snap my dad's memory back into shape for a couple of hours and I appreciate every moment of it as I know the time is prescious.
