How this got past writers and editors and producers is beyond me.

I'm actually on USC's campus this very minute and have done some research. Apparently this school has, by proportion of student body, the highest proportion of Asian-based international students of any major university in the nation. It's actually not a stretch that the students chosen to be interviewed were actually chosen at random.

the only students on campus may have been international students which, given your point, would 'make sense.' the problem is this piece would have only worked if an asian reporter was conducting it and was trying to angle it to "ha, foreigners welcoming schools to their american football conference - that's clever and witty!"

instead it just seems to make fun of foreigners. i think the fact they are Asian is a mere 'coincidence' so to speak. the reporter wasn't asking them to recommend recipes (as far into it as i watched), just taking advantage of ESL.

I was refering to research done on USC not on Fox News. Futhermore, the fact that Fox went ahead and said it was an insensitive joke after the fact of it being heralded as racist and insensitive doesnt actually mean that it was a joke, just that they are doing what they can to cover their ass.

It doesn't have to be a "social" group.  Plus, insofar as news stations are part of society, they are social groups.  Further, the people they are insulting can control the object of stereotype in this case:  they can watch more football.  That isn't to say the insult is warranted, of course it's not.  But if we want to think clearly about this, we can't let our own bias get in the way of impugning others' bias.

That reminds me of the exchange between Matt Damon (playing a gaming commissioner) and Bernie Mac (playing a dealer).  Damon talks about not being a racist and then says "colored people" causing Mac to flip out.

I'm pretty sure this was a spoof on Fuel TV, not Fox Sports. The video is intended to get people who make assumptions about Fox to be outraged before they hear him say he's on fuel TV and then spread this around the internet like wildfire.

Bob Oschack is a comedian, not a FSN reporter.  Yes, I guess the two sites are owned by the same company, but it's kinda like comparing G4 to Versus or saying that Versus has some connection in programming to MSNBC.

Looks like Bob Oschack needs to make himself feel a little bit better vis a vis those slant-eyed nerds who do gay stuff like 'get into good schools.'

Apparently he used to be a writer for Mind of Mencia ... so at least now we know he's got some real range in terms of his material.  (Kinda like PurpleStuff!)

Not really racist, just lame, unoriginal attempt at comedy. It's like something stupid that Jay Leno would do on the street that only your grandpa would find funny.

The PC patrol needs to go back to their stations, settle down, and rub one out.

They should send the reporter out here.  Our Asian organizations are much more militant and a video of that reporter fleeing from a horde of pissed off Michigan students would be quality.
