That's horrible...
But I like it.
September 7th, 2011 at 2:44 PM ^
How embarrassing for this station. Embarrassing, racist, other words I don't know... Shameful, really.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
I'm actually on USC's campus this very minute and have done some research. Apparently this school has, by proportion of student body, the highest proportion of Asian-based international students of any major university in the nation. It's actually not a stretch that the students chosen to be interviewed were actually chosen at random.
September 7th, 2011 at 4:37 PM ^
the only students on campus may have been international students which, given your point, would 'make sense.' the problem is this piece would have only worked if an asian reporter was conducting it and was trying to angle it to "ha, foreigners welcoming schools to their american football conference - that's clever and witty!"
instead it just seems to make fun of foreigners. i think the fact they are Asian is a mere 'coincidence' so to speak. the reporter wasn't asking them to recommend recipes (as far into it as i watched), just taking advantage of ESL.
September 7th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
If it had been done recently, and like you said, almost everyone on campus is an international student, then it wouldn't have actually required any such angle. It just would've been that those were the only people available for interview.
September 7th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
You should have done more research on the video then. Fox already apologized for the video and intended for it to be a joke.
September 7th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
I was refering to research done on USC not on Fox News. Futhermore, the fact that Fox went ahead and said it was an insensitive joke after the fact of it being heralded as racist and insensitive doesnt actually mean that it was a joke, just that they are doing what they can to cover their ass.
September 7th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
I learry don't think this is appropriate. Ret's do something about this immediatery!
September 7th, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
Really dude? You are such an asshole.
September 7th, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
That really hurt my feelings.
September 7th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
I fink you mean to say feerings.
September 7th, 2011 at 2:44 PM ^
OMG AZIANS DONT WATCH FOOTBALL LOLOLOL
September 7th, 2011 at 3:03 PM ^
"ROROROR"
September 7th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
I really wish I didn't laugh aloud at that.
September 7th, 2011 at 4:17 PM ^
I'm Asian and I laughed to that
September 7th, 2011 at 4:16 PM ^
This could possibly be one of the best comments I have ever read on here. I haven't laughed this hard at something on here since the Lloyd Brady stuff.
September 7th, 2011 at 8:02 PM ^
Don't you mean Rroyd Brady?
September 7th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
it's fox.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
you're perpetuating a stereotype because you're mad at this local station for perpetuating a stereotype?
September 7th, 2011 at 3:28 PM ^
is a generalization towards a social group or individual, not a news station. And they're making fun of something these people can't control. Fox can control it's bias agenda.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
It doesn't have to be a "social" group. Plus, insofar as news stations are part of society, they are social groups. Further, the people they are insulting can control the object of stereotype in this case: they can watch more football. That isn't to say the insult is warranted, of course it's not. But if we want to think clearly about this, we can't let our own bias get in the way of impugning others' bias.
September 7th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
Yes, casting aspersions on Fox News is exactly as bad as making fun of people because of their ethnicity. Well stated.
September 7th, 2011 at 2:52 PM ^
Were they trying to be funny?
September 7th, 2011 at 2:58 PM ^
USC and other PAC-12 schools ought to take away press credentials from that station and, if they can, ban them from their campuses.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:01 PM ^
Pac 12 can't survive without Fox Sports
September 7th, 2011 at 2:59 PM ^
Fox racist? Never. This post is just a lamestream gotcha insult to the real 'muricans that watch Fox.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:04 PM ^
Everyone is racist. I'm sorry but that's a fact. No matter what race, everyone is racist. Take an IAT, see how you do. Give it to your friends, see how you do. Keep the politics off MGoBlog.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:07 PM ^
Everybody steals from me, steals from you, whatever.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:16 PM ^
1.) Not a fact; please look up the definition of "fact" if it requires further elucidation.
2.) I'm calling the Dalai Lama and telling him you called him a racist.
3.) Please keep stupid blanket statements off of MGoBlog.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
Will you apologize to the OP if you talk to the Dalai Lama and learn that he is, in fact, a racist? I think that would be appropriate . . .
September 7th, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
The Dalai Lama is an asshole.
That was not a joke.
September 7th, 2011 at 4:04 PM ^
I just spoke with the Dalai Lama, who assured me he loves coloured people.
September 7th, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
Are you by any chance, an elderly, white, British gentleman?
September 7th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
That reminds me of the exchange between Matt Damon (playing a gaming commissioner) and Bernie Mac (playing a dealer). Damon talks about not being a racist and then says "colored people" causing Mac to flip out.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
Are you multi-racist?
September 7th, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
Just like everyone else in this country.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
I'm pretty sure this was a spoof on Fuel TV, not Fox Sports. The video is intended to get people who make assumptions about Fox to be outraged before they hear him say he's on fuel TV and then spread this around the internet like wildfire.
http://www.fuel.tv/shows/castmember/bob-oschack/collegeexperiment
Bob Oschack is a comedian, not a FSN reporter. Yes, I guess the two sites are owned by the same company, but it's kinda like comparing G4 to Versus or saying that Versus has some connection in programming to MSNBC.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:01 PM ^
He says at the end that they are on Fuel TV, Im pretty sure it's a spoof
September 7th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
Looks like Bob Oschack needs to make himself feel a little bit better vis a vis those slant-eyed nerds who do gay stuff like 'get into good schools.'
Apparently he used to be a writer for Mind of Mencia ... so at least now we know he's got some real range in terms of his material. (Kinda like PurpleStuff!)
September 7th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
I went to USC and since I am one of the three people in my sig pic it should be obvious that I am not Asian. Playing off their "zero non-Asians who have any concept of what American football is attend this school" concept was definitely worth a chuckle.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:16 PM ^
Not really racist, just lame, unoriginal attempt at comedy. It's like something stupid that Jay Leno would do on the street that only your grandpa would find funny.
The PC patrol needs to go back to their stations, settle down, and rub one out.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:29 PM ^
I second it. People need to chill out. I took it as more of a cultural differences joke, like if I went to school in India and was asked about the state of cricket. I'd have no idea and stumble along just like these people did.
September 7th, 2011 at 6:22 PM ^
If they really wanted to make it about ethnicity, they would have interviewed some Asian Americans as well. They only interviewed foreign students. I took it more as a "These guys that just came to this country to study don't understand our sports" than a "People of Asian descent don't get football" bit.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
They should send the reporter out here. Our Asian organizations are much more militant and a video of that reporter fleeing from a horde of pissed off Michigan students would be quality.
September 7th, 2011 at 3:18 PM ^
September 7th, 2011 at 4:16 PM ^
The tongue-in cheek "All-American" reference in the introduction is offensive.
September 7th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
"Overrated" is hands-down the least descriptive phrase for a comment we could employ. And why agreeing that this kind of tomfoolery is offensive would be "overrated" I have no idea.
