OT: Florida player sings alma mater all alone after sugar bowl

Darrin Kitchens was the only player to stick around after the loss. He didn't even play in the game.

Wow, that must have been nice for the band too. Well done, Mr. Kitchens.

Respect.

Goes to show you can never look like a fool if you are doing the right thing!
How you respond after a loss means more than what you do in victory- lots of RESPECT for that move!

Class move.

That took some guts. Much respect to Mr. Kitchens.

Good for him.

They should make that guy a captain next year. That is a young man who understands what it means to play a sport when other people are rooting for you.

This Kitchens guy was one of the 8,450 players offered by Michigan in the 2010 class. He's mentioned in a couple of Tim's old recruiting posts.

Here is a thread from '09 that mentions him: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/impact-florida-recruits. It's especially interesting to read the parts about Dorsey, Hankins, and Gholston.

Nothing, genius.

Are you fairly new to the blog?
1. The "OT" moniker means "off-topic" and is used to warn the reader that the thread contains material that is not specifically Michigan sports related material.
2. Football season has officially ended so many of the threads created are going to be considered "off-topic" until the fall.
3. I think most people would be interested in reading about this in case they missed it and, having to do with college football in general, the moderators would likely always let this kind of stuff stand absent extraordinary circumstances.

The dude joined on 4/20 the past year and his mgousername wants you to 'light' something up. Obviously stoned.

with the ICP looking avatar. Just Sayn'...

but especially the third point. Even in on topic season, this wouldn't get taken down on a normal weekday during business hours; it's a feel good story about college athletics. If that's out of bounds to post, what do we have?
Unless someone wants to start making a ton more threads on WBB, wrestling, M/W gymnastics, and M/W swimming and diving to go along with the decent amount of hockey coverage and ton of content about MBB, there's going to be room for these kinds of threads on the board. By Brian's own guidelines, this is a more on topic post than anything on the Lions, Pistons, Red Wings or Tigers.

If everyone is saying the same thing, +1 and move on. But dammed if this kid doesn't deserve some credit. A lot of people a lot older could learn from him.
January 4th, 2013 at 3:38 PM ^
Good for him. A bit sad that nobody else thought to join him.

Reminds me of the asian guy in Tiananmen Square

Only more heroic.
BOOM! Fred Jackson'd!

Weren't the guys driving the tanks in Tiananmen Square also Asian?

pretty safe bet that "that asian guy" was in fact Chinese.
For those interested, Frontline has a great documentary about that man and that movement that can be downloaded.

An excellent gesture of team spirit and leadership on Kitchens' part, and he didn't even need to play in the game to make a statement. It is a shame that no one else on the Gators' roster has that much team pride, from the look of things. Props and much respect to him.
January 4th, 2013 at 3:46 PM ^
This is the kind of player you make a captain and offer a GA position to after he graduates.

Good for him, seeing him being a class act after being upset shows alot of what type of person he is.
January 4th, 2013 at 4:30 PM ^
That's awesome.
I believe Michigan recruited Kitchens toward the end of that recruiting cycle...
If I am Muschamp, I'm getting that picture blown up and putting it on the locker of every other player....

His teammates should be ashamed of themselves. Fight together and die together, or something like that, right?

January 4th, 2013 at 5:10 PM ^
That's great.
That's sad as much as it is classy. Muschamp comes off as a huge bag of dicks.

Well now I have an answer to the yearly who-is-your-favorite-non-michigan-player thread.

Great picture too, sums up almost the entire story all by itself.
