Who is the last 'M' QB to come out of Ohio? Without looking it up, I can't think of a starter since Grbac, but I feel like I'm missing someone obvious. Benny Friedman would probably be the best, followed by Elvis; hopefully, Messiah can challange that list.

I wonder if they will turn the #2 into an offical legends number with a Woodson patch. Obviously, that ceremony wouldn't happen for the first game (Penn St. would probably be the only game that's worthy of such a ceremony). I guess Peppers could already be wearing #2, but in my scenario it seems logical that he would wear something else until that ceremony.
I guess such a ceremony would also depend on Woodson's playing schedule.

Tom Brady. Aren't you ever depressed that he won so many more Super Bowls in the NFL than he did at Michigan?

Lester Abram came to mind as well. I always thought he could have been pretty good, but he had some bad injuries if I remember correctly.
I also recall being pretty enthusiastic for the Blanchard, Crawford, Gaines freshman years ('99?). It also had Gronginger and one other guy whose name isn't coming (I think he was from MA, but he didn't do much at U-M). As a group they were a "new 5" that seemed like the were going to bring the program back. And for awhile...but then Crawford got suspened, Gronginger didn't become the second coming of Stauskas, Gaines went to Houston (?), and Blanchard had to go it alone.
Also, I feel like the first Sims/Harris combo, that being Courtney and Dion, gets over looked a lot. Thankful for all the players who stuck around the program to at least make it a somewhat watchable.

3 ejections? That's gotta be a record. There are a few more 'M' records listed in the game notes.

That might be somewhate plausible considering he would have coached with Jon Hoke last season or longer.

I appreciate his zeal, civil arguements, and thorough responses, but unless it actually is Rob Renes, I think this might be going a little far.

I think that's pretty good deduction, but if you think the Ohio game will start at 1pm, you might miss most of the first half.

Love seeing Walter Smith before, I believe, he got injured. Also, your comment about the names on the defense in the mid-90s reminded me anew of how ridiculous they were. All I can think is that Moeller went through some list of recruits and purposefully picked out those names. I think Law and even Noble shold be included in that discussion as well.
I wish there was a close up of Navarre at the end of his run when he sticks the ball in the air for a split second. I think it would make a great GIF. It reminds me of someone who is trying to ride a bike without using their hands and pulls them off for just a split second. It's like he wants to celebrate the TD, but is still so worried about about getting stripped that all he can manage is the briefest celebration.

I mostly agree, though this morning I think I heard Sam Webb say essentially the same thing, so it's not just the opinion of random fans. (I say I think because my very basic car radio struggles to get WTKA on my morning commute.)

Yeah, care to be any more cryptic with this? Is this mundane, like Jake Butt getting the majority of the snaps at TE? Or something more radical, like Frank Clark playing both side of the ball?

And here I thought the title needed clarifiation for Michigan being in on a basketball OR football center from Detroit Renaissance High School.

I like the Gardner switch because of a number of reasons, but partly because I still associate him with #7. I always thought the #12 was really weird on him.
I liked Seth's point about just how many years and numbers the program encompasses. While a number might have a special connection to one fan, it's going to have 20 other connections to 20 other fans. When I see a number on the field, and I don't immediately remember the current player, my mnd often reverts back to some obscure player from the 90s (#27 = Steve King, always). So, while I agree the current plan seems to have some flaws, I do like the idea, and I think it would be difficult to prefect completely.

Oh interesting, thanks for pointing that out. I still believe that almost every time, the MGoBlog question is severely different than anything a typlical media member asks. I imagine for the coaches it's like they have to switch from a typical press confrence to how they might answer a question in a coaches clinic.

Heiko, are other reporters every mystified/confused/bewildered by your questions? They are always so much more intelligent and specific compared to all the other questions. I realize different reporters are going to ask different questions based on their readership, but I was struck by the difference between your second question here and "Jarrod Wilson?". I would really like to know what goes on in the minds of the other reports when you ask a question (I picture many black stares and some rolled eyes - from the Drew Sharp types).
On that same thought, I'm interested to know what Mattison and Borges think when they get questions about the intricacies of specific plays. (I realize this has been somewhate revealed in the case of Borges.) I can't imagine that they've ever experienced such questions at a press conference before in their career.

I was wondering if he might have an issue with his left hand/arm, the way he was holding it as he ran off the field. It was at a plausible time of the game for him to leave and not come back, so I didn't think too much more of it.
