OT: Female college soccer player trying to become the LSU kicker (I now have a crush on her)
Just watched this interview on tv and thought it was actually a pretty good story. Her dad committed suicide and then she was in a horrible car wreck and came back from it all to keep playing. Now she's trying to kick for the football team. I'm not that surprised that the players have taken her in and supported her efforts since she's insanely attractive, but I am pretty surprised that Les is even letting her try. I would say she could only be a good victory cigar, but I doubt you'd even lose that much strength by playing her over a scrawny male kicker in the case of a flukey tackle on a blocked kick or something. I know there was another girl that did this somewhere a couple years ago, but she didn't steal my heart like Mo.

It's the THIRD, not the first!
:)
You lost me..
He's making a joke based on the ambiguous pronoun, which isn't reallly ambiguous because "dad" implies male and "she" implies female, meaning that the pronoun is referencing the girl and not her dad.
EDIT: Nevermind. I didn't realize you had already changed it.
she was already cut about 2 weeks ago, when spring practice started. She said she will try again with walk-ons or next season fwiw.
So her dad committed suicide then was in a horrible car crash then came back from it all to keep playing?
Yikes.. I get it now. I was a English major in college too. I'm so ashamed..
Fixed it. In my defense I am severely sleep deprived right now.
You were a English major?
More like invisible.
Hahahaha alright alright.. I'm going to sit the next few plays out. Maybe stop saying things when they creep up in the old mouth. Indeed I was AN English major, but clearly not a very good one, especially on one hour of sleep.
My sentiments exactly. Punctuation and grammar are beautiful things.
I met his girlfriend that night while he was on TV. She's brunette.
And . . . . ?
I'm betting his girlfriend is the brunette.
We need to bring in Alex Morgan to kick field goals for us when Gibbons graduates.
She can think of herself when she kicks.
I saw some articles and interviews with her earlier this year. Definitely a babe.
Duke had a female kicker...and apparently ended up getting sued for cutting her.
just, wow.
she makes it on her own merit not just a gimmick or her beauty. Heck of a story on her part, plenty of determination, good for her...she sure couldn't be worse than our kicking game the last number of years. Soccer athletes usually transition really well. Hope she makes the roster and does well even if it is LSU.
While she appears to have the leg for this, she looks like she'd be broken in half on any kind of fake play. Or a broken play, such as the pass to Glanda in the Sugar Bowl. Gibbons actually blocked on that one (well half blocked, half lay down and played speed bump).
According to her bio she is 6' and weight not listed. So I can only judge her build off appearance, but I think her lack of upper body strength is an issue. Unless she is the second coming of Sebastien Janowksi in terms of leg strength and the leg offsets that.
She prob has just as much muscle/weight as the gramatica bros.
The article about her getting cut says she is 6'1" and 190....definitely not a little girl. Good luck to her...hope she makes the team.
Mod me down.
I bet she scores better than 4 on the Wonderlic.
Actually Les Miles already cut her from spring practice.

I'm actually shocked that Miles didn't say something stupid or bizarre in addressing that situation to the media.
He was surprisingly lucid.
I just discovered that when Les Miles is lucid, he's really boring.
Yeah, I heard about this a few weeks ago. She tried to make the cut and failed. LSU has ample kickers though, including their current one who is pretty good, but Miles was still praising her as a talent. Shame there is no room on the team for her.
Also, when discussing this a few weeks ago, someone said there was a really good HS kicker in Michigan a few years ago. I don't see anything wrong with females kicking.
Finally, she did a series where she competes with several LSU players on Youtube, including Honey Badger.
LSU has ample kickers thoughNot all kickers, however, are ample in the same ways...
In the article above Miles had some good reasons for cutting her. Miles said that he likes his kickers to be able to make tackles.
It seems like their is no question on her abilities to kick the ball though.
"She's a great person, but there's some things she can't do, and she knows it," he said. "We go to kicking off into the corner, we count on our kicker making some tackles, and it's just not something I'm comfortable she's ready to do. It's one of those spots you really can't put a person that cannot tackle."From the same article:
"She's going to go back and concentrate on extra points and field goals. She did not want to take that she couldn't make the team. She said, Do I get another opportunity if I get a lot better?' I said Sure."
As a former college soccer goalie who did that drill on a daily basis, it's nice to say I have much better hands than Tyrann Mathieu...
And as a former college soccer goalie, I wish I could say that I was within a half second of his 40 yard dash...
You may be thinking of Katie Hnida, who kicked for Colorado for a while.
That... that ended about as poorly as any athletic endeavor in the history of sports for pretty much everyone involved, and especially for her.
not only did it end about as poorly as you can imagine it was handled even WORSE by the people responsible for making sure these sorts of things don't happen in an athletic department. They should fire Gary Barnett again.
One of the first lessons we got in Criminal Law was "claims that the victim was a sub-par kicker is not a defense to allegations of rape." Such claims are, however, solid and admissible evidence of a guy being a total jackass.
I missed that story all together. If others don't know it, google her name and read what comes up. If you ever needed a reason to dislike Colorado. . .
The google search brought up what appears to be her web-site where it states that she professionally kicked for an indoor team and does speaking engagements. It seems like she has done her best to get some positives out of a very bad situation, Actually, it seems like New Mexico State was were the story started to get better.
Dibs.
That isn't creepy at all... /s
Calling dibs is a perfectly acceptable practice in today's soceity.

The new Mrs. approved version of the Kate Upton GIF? I want this posted on the next recruiting celebration thread!
I want to go to there
Not sure how old this video is (I couldn't waste 7 min watching the video), but a few weeks ago it was reported she didn't make the team. They said her kicking was fine but she basically couldn't tackle, so she didn't make the cut.

Kudos to her, but it's not like she is trying out for a DIII school who just created a varsity team.
It's freaking LSU, in the ESSS-EEEE-SEEEE.
