OT - Father's Day Open Thread

Submitted by Naked Bootlegger on

Happy Father's Day to all of my fellow MGoDads out there.   Did you send or receive anything ultra-special today, maybe even UM-themed?

I was the happy recipient of a shiny new NOAA weather radio (yes, I'm tremendously excited about this gift) and some homemade random Lego structures from the kids that obviously took some blood, sweat, and tears to construct.   I will be spending the rest of the day relaxing, catching up on some long-overdue reading, and cracking an icy cold Oberon during Happy Hour.

Enjoy your day.

The Missus is getting some food together - I'm on Vacay today, she insists - and the Dads will be over for steaks as well as to check out the final round of the U.S. Open. Got a Sam Adams variety packs and I'm just chillin. Oh, and playing golf on Links 2003; if anyone doesn't have this and would like to play a good golf sim, this one has aged pretty well. Add in the fact that players are still making fabulous courses for it and you got the gift that keeps on giving. As for gifts, aside from the meal, I've been told I could get a new driver if I would like so I might do that, but not today. Probably shouldn't purchase it while I have a little buzz going.

my day sucked, can I just share that with everyone here?  It's 12:07am Monday in Korea, so I'll be waiting another 365 for Father's Day.  I don't know if it could have gone any worse.... and I can't even sleep my sorrow off: I'm up all night finishing a grad paper for my online studying.

That was supposed to make me feel better.  Didn't work.

With that said, my son's international school had International Week this past week.  It's a pretty amazing thing with several dozen nations represented.  On Friday they all wear their national costume and have a parade.  My son wore his plastic UM helmet and customized UM jersey with his name on it.  The other American kids were sporting red-white-blue (which was very nice), and my son chose his UM uniform (even nicer).  I do love him.

No gifts yet... waiting for mom to get back into town.  Fingers crossed.

Cool story bro: I took my son out for sushi for the first time last night.  This morning, the first thing he did was pull Memoirs of a Geisha off the book shelf, put it on the floor, and sit down in front of it and start leafing through it.  He's 15 months old.  That's my boy.

Got a bottle of bookers and a bottle of don julio. I'm not sure what my wife and daughter are trying to tell me. I also got a homemade card which consisted of scribbles on a piece of paper. This is only my second fathers day as a dad...the bar had been set high.

Big day ahead - Home Depot, maybe Bed Bath and Beyond. Don't know if there's enough time.

My son-in-law, who is serving as a nurse with the Michigan National Guard in Afghanistan, wished me "Happy Father's Day OB" via Facebook..   On the other hand, he is the kid that made me a grandfather late last year way before my time..

So what is the "OB"?   My granddaughter will not call me grandpa, she will call me OB.   We will tell her later that it stands for Old Bastard..

I will be joining the dads club Sept 2nd. It's a boy, and the way he is kicking around in there, I may have to name him Zoltan! To celebrate my first (pseudo) Father's Day, we are heading out to Lake Champlain for the day (we live in VT).

Had to travel for work but did celebrate Thursday before I left.  My two year old told me "Happy Birthday to Fathers Day" and repeated it to me on my wake up call this morning.  Hopefully they save me some of the German chocolate cake we had before I left.

I got a home made necktie made out of Bristol Board and various pictures, I got a super nice trophy #1 Dad made from styrofoam cups and bedazzled to hell and back.  I got some "home made" BBQ sauce that my son said his class made.  (I am still not sure about that, what do you guys think?)

Wife had to work, kids made me breakfast in bed.  Great day so far.

I got a wake up call from the feral children that live near our cottage going for a swim at 1:00 am, which made the dog go apeshit, which in turn made my 2 year old freak out and scream his lungs out until 3:30. Oh, and I got a card.

Happy fathers day to all you wolverine papas.
I'm not a dad, so I'm free to spend the day doing nothing, specifically flopped out, enjoying a beautiful day on the ocean.

Not a father yet, atleast that I know of.  Spending the day working at Motts. Missing Father's Day with my own father for the first time in 23 years. Sucks.  Congrats to all the dads. Relax today!

I received some nice cards and hugs. Then I proceeded to Academy and bought a Smokey Joe, flip flops, three kites for the boys and a horeshoe set. Now off to the park to break in all of the gifts.

The card from my daughter really made me happy!  It ended with, "So much of the good stuff in my life started with you!"

Oh, and she gave me a great set of headphones!

It's been a great day!

Happy Father's Day to all of you "M" fans out there!

Had the first tee time at my club this morning, got some new Ecco golf shoes, got over to the family cookout and was greeted by my brother in law with a 12 pack of Oberon. Damn good day

I received two new shirts for work, some new sandals because my wife is  tired of the old Asics being sported poolside, and some cooking utensils. There were also some hand-drawn cards from the kids as well, which made it extra special.

I was also treated to a sub from Captain Nemo's in Romulus and played in the rain with the kids for a while, and that was actually quite fun.

Happy Father's Day,MGoDads! As always, Go Blue!

I guess I'm of the age where my children don't get me "normal" gifts anymore.  Instead, they just choose things to gently mock my habits.  I got a "Lifetime Supply" of floss today (which consisted of probably 25 little boxes.  Ever since my daughter-in-law found out I re-use my floss she's been jabbering at me.  Oh well, I also went to my grandson's baseball game and took a nap.  Very good day so far, my wife is keeping what we're having for dinner a secret.

Happy Father's Day to the MGoDads.

As David Lee Roth once said:

"People think I have this strange concept of women, but they're wrong. I'm a family-oriented kind of guy. I've personally started four or five this year already!"

Are you serious? Let me introduce you...

Herm, meet Frank Zappa...

Frank, meet Herm.

Lei's hope your penchant for frugality doesn't extend to TP.

Yes, it is the waxed type so it doesn't get all mangled in your teeth.  Plus, it's harder to throw away by walking all the way across the bathroom.  Instead, I just leave it next to my sink and every few days the cleaning lady (wife) makes it go away.  Then I get a new piece.

Its been a terrible weekend.  My brother had a heart attack (stress, not plaque) and a family friend and fellow UM grad died.  Both men are/were 44.  Waiting for the third shitty thing to happen.

I did manage to landscape my front garden in and play catch with my son.  Never forget to smell the roses.  We planted some so we would remember.
