OT? Apparently Milton did connect on bombs in practice...
So Joe Milton posted on IG, a video apparently from a practice or scrimmage. He tagged Tarik Black, who he hit on a deep pass. Obviously we didn't see much of this in game, but the rumor was that he may have been connecting on these in practice. Thought I would share with the board for those interested in rehashing the "what could've beens".

So he once threw a successful deep pass.
In practice.
Okay, cool.
April 23rd, 2021 at 11:10 PM ^
Yup. Atleast once.

I have two children, which means I have had sex at least twice.

...Assuming, of course, (i) you are the father, (ii) natural conception, and (iii) two singlet births.
Atticus, always Lawyerin’. Well done.

Well there was one clip of JJ connecting on one deep pass, in practice, and it was posted and played on every Michigan related site and social media page just a couple of weeks ago. People went crazy over that, maybe Tennessee fans will do the same for Milton.
JJ confirmed at least as good as Milton. Rejoice!

Yeah but it was against our 2020 secondary so that's pretty much an asterisk.
Rocky Lombardi hit more deep balls October 31st 2020 than Joe Milton did in his career. I wish the kid the best but I’m not sure the point you’re trying to make.
Exactly kind of needed to see it in a game

So did Shane Morris
on his knees.

Couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn during a game.
April 23rd, 2021 at 11:18 PM ^
Only if the barn was more than 15 yards away.

Neither could Shea
April 24th, 2021 at 12:05 AM ^
Shea played some great games vs great defenses (MSU, ND, Wisc, PSU). If he was our QB this past year we beat MSU, Indiana, and Penn St
Exactly..
People shit on shea, but playing in 4 different offenses in college and he still statistically was the best QB we have had since henne
April 24th, 2021 at 10:04 AM ^
That’s an extremely pathetic commentary on Michigan quarterbacks over the years...
April 24th, 2021 at 12:30 PM ^
Rudock was a better QB and it's why he's still playing in the NFL....or even played in the NFL at all.
Great QBs don't merely make great plays, they make it possible for other players to be great.
April 24th, 2021 at 12:09 AM ^
....he could with a 5 iron.
April 24th, 2021 at 12:42 AM ^
Shea came to play against MSU. He would not have let that shit show happen last year. But sure keep trashing him.
Shea to DPJ for Paul Bunyan was epic.
April 24th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
Shea had more yards and touchdowns in two games vs MSU than Lewerke had vs us in 4.
Also the only QB to go undefeated vs MSU with multiple starts since Henne.

But he gave us hope for 7 days after the Minnesota game
April 24th, 2021 at 12:14 AM ^
Couldn't hit mountains either. But he probably could throw over them...
April 24th, 2021 at 10:09 AM ^
Milton had great bow staff skillz too.
But he could throw it over the barns head
April 24th, 2021 at 10:22 AM ^
He could if the barn was located in Minnesota. Which is a super odd skill to have.
April 23rd, 2021 at 11:18 PM ^
Wow, a transfer hit a transfer. Good luck guys. Keep hitting it.

Was it Hoke’s teams that always did well in practice?
Milton was not very good here. Time to move on.
Quick name the last Michigan quarterback who could hit a deep ball in games.....oh shit now I’m sad.
grbac. imo, still the best at throwing the deep ball. he had a knack for throwing away from defenders and putting enough air under the ball to allow the wr to run under it; often desmond howard.
Brian Griese as a senior (national championship season) was good at it.
Henne. For some reason he’s overlooked and almost forgotten by a decent portion of the fan base
That’s what happens when you go 0-4 against OSU unfortunately.
April 24th, 2021 at 12:25 PM ^
Individual players don't play against teams.
(Yes, I apparently needed to state the obvious.)
Exactly. So many times he would launch one up and I’d instinctively say “TOUCHDOWN!” and it usually rang true.

2016 Speight was decent with the deep shots. Even in the Iowa game, that was hard to watch, if Darboh holds on to that pass late in the game Michigan wins. Not saying Speight was a world beater, but he was solid with Darboh and Chesson on the outside. That pass in the Wis. game was on the money.
It really, really helps when the guy running under the ball is Desmond Howard.
In terms of raw completions, I'm sure Denard has the lead against most if not all recent Michigan qbs. Whether those passes were good and not just spectacular catches by Hemingway and Roundtree is another story. But hey, at least he gave his guys chances which probably could've doubled Nico's tds if he played with Denard
Chad Henne
April 24th, 2021 at 10:10 AM ^
John Navarre was really good at it I thought
April 24th, 2021 at 11:51 AM ^
I heard that Benny Friedman could really crank them up.
I’ve said this a few times in various threads. Milton has all the tools of a guy who thrives in a practice environment but can’t put it all together in a game when he’s facing live pressure.
When it’s a grad assistant tossing you a “snap,” the defense is playing two hand touch with the QB, and all you have to do is take your 3-5 step drop and let it fly, Milton is a great QB. With his arm talent, he can make any throw.
When he faces people that want to take his head off, he faces pressure and has to leave the pocket while reading a defense and going through his progressions, then his mechanics break down and he loses his composure and accuracy. Just can’t seem to put it all together in a live game environment.
