To their credit, Ohio State does this.  It's a great idea, and I'm glad to see that we are doing it.

You want students to show up at games?  Involve them.

Here are some more ideas:

Pick some at random each game to hang out on the sidelines.

Let them on the field pre-game for a certain amount of time to hang out with the players.

Dedicate one of the precious suites to the students.  Pick some at random each game to sit in it each quarter.  While they are there, "wine them and dine them".  Treat them like they matter as much as the rich old alumni.

Agreed on the timing.  It also roughly corresponds to the time of day that they'll be playing Utah Thursday the 3rd.  It's also a perfect time for the newer players a bit more experience playing in the Big House both during the day and "under the lights."

GREAT move to help mend fences with the students.

I can't speak for everyone, but as a student I am PUMPED! Only regret is many people are not back to campus yet, so I'm not sure what attendance will be like.

Can I get in if I'm like informally surveying a course? Like virtually or on-line or virtually on-line or if I just sit in an auditorium for a while or something? Come on!

Good. It's nice to know that the people in charge now don't need thousands and thousands of unsold tickets to realize they should do something nice for fans occasionally.

Nice! Unfortunate for fans that aren't current students, but there are plenty of users here who are current students, so the news will get here regardless. I will definitely go in looking to gather information to report back here.

They do scan them at basketball games, so they have the equipment/capacity to do so. But honestly really could go either way.

I will say that if Hackett/Harbaugh's goal is to make this a new student tradition, I wouldn't be surprised if they enforce the student-only stipulation with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

They scan M-Cards at basketball (and hockey) because student tickets are on the card; I'm pretty sure they no longer print tickets for either. There's nothing to scan for at football games, since they still have paper tickets. Honestly, I'm not sure if they even could accurately scan to check enrollment, since there are so many things going on there. Hell, I haven't been a student in over 2 years, but my (not yet expired) M-Card still unlocks doors to campus buildings after hours...

When I saw this tweet last night, admittedly my first thoughts involved finding ways to make myself look more like my 20-year old MCard photo, but I would have to lose another 15 pounds, spike my hair and try to remember which Salvation Army came into possession of the Hawaiian shirt I wore for that photo.

That being said, this is a pretty cool idea though - hopefully we get some good observations from those on the board who will get their chance to be "embedded reporters"  in Michigan Stadium.
