I hope he recovers quickly and is 100% for fall camp next year. Can't believe it'll be his junior season.

Why do we not put all linemen in steel kneee braces to prevent at least some of these injuries?
300 pound linemen are a natural set-up to put a large amount of abnormal stress on their relatively little knees. In playing their positions they do not need to pivot as much as a running back or cornerback or quarterback does. I would think the minor loss of mobility could be compensated and the potential gain from avoiding injuries would be significant.

Because the last time i looked (a few years ago, granted) prophylactic use of braces have not been shown to prevent ACL injuries.

This is getting ridiculous. We're surpassing Purdue levels here, and we just don't have the kind of talent and depth to continually withstand these injuries.

Not what Ondre or our D-line needed right now. I hope he makes a fast, full recovery and that some of the young guys can step it up (Henry, Wormley, Godin).

They only count the regular season. Bowl games and conference championships don't count.
Should be in response to Alum96.

Well this blows... The worst part is how he was injured. If anyone has the game on DVR, can you verify how he was hurt? I saw it in real-time and rewound it. It looked like a blindside crack back block by Minny's TE. My gut reaction was that it was a cheap shot but I'm biased.

Hopefully the coaches are looking at our strength program closely, we've had too many ACL tears recently. I can't recall any recent Michigan team having anything approaching the # of ACL issues as we have since Hoke took over.

He was injured when a Minnesota dude fell on his leg. It had nothing to do with strength and conditioning.
There may possibly be ways to reduce non-contact ACL tears by increasing flexibility, but contact tears are pretty much always going to happen.

Get well soon Optimus pee wee prime! Back when i messed with twitter a few years a go him and Magnuson retweeted some stuff i had tweeted about that recruiting class and sent me some messgaes, automatically loved the guys no matter what happend in college. I hope he gets his redshirt and heals up to be better than before

It figures it would come against Minnesota. We seem to have all sorts of big leg injuries to players historically against the Gophers.

Worried about our absolute value of ACL tears.
I'm wondering if this was related to the field turf somehow (guessing its identical to practice fields and indoors). I recall the astro/artificial turf of the early 80s was responsible for a lot of injuries due to not releasing a foot when a loss of traction would have released the stress of the injury event. That said I do not want to go back to the natural grass experiement. While the field looked great in sept and average in oct, by nov it was cloddy with more divots than solid sod.
On the other hand, whoever figures out a brace-type system or set of conditioning exercises to improve the probabilities will almost certainly live in gridiron wiki infamy...

I'd say it's more that the Field Turf fibers are long, mimicking real grass, and they aren't as grippy as the very short AstroTurf fibers were. The rubber pellets provide cushioning as far as running and landing on the field, but have far less to do with pivoting on it than the fibers do.

I watched the hit several times. He looked to let his guard down and got blown up by a big guy. It really didnt look like he landed too weird but alas... Just hope these guys can come back strong after injuries like this by staying ahead of school and football film. As well as keep working upper body strength

Because on real grass, players never fall on each others' legs?
