The "O" on the OSU player's gloves...oh how I hate them.
Today in Biology class, we were learning about the Cell Cycle and how a cell divides. My teacher decided to try to help us memorize the steps by teaching us hand gestures for each phase. She made an "O" for interphase, just like the OSU players made an "O" after scoring touchdowns. As the whole class followed her gestures, I refused. I then proceeded to put my head down on my desk as I remembered The Game. A few seconds later, she asked me why I wasn't doing the hand gestures. I just mumbled nevermind, and pretended to do them. My participation grade was marked down. Totally worth it, I HATE OSU! I hate how they try to run a damn fashion show during the game. Ridiculous throwback jerseys in 09 and the cherry colored ones this year with those gloves. Damn Buckeyes.

Great job. Including Michigan football fandom in the classroom is a great skill that really makes a boring class more interesting. Earlier this year, during Hard Edge Week, I described a judge's decision to release 4 Somali Pirates from custody because they had not actually boarded another vessel when they were arrested for piracy as "Not Hard Edge" when asked my thoughts on the case by my professor. He had no clue what I was talking about, but I at least got to smile.

insulting. It's like scheduling us for homecoming or something. It seemed like, "Ok, when's a good time to bust out these 'O' gloves? We need to get them some real camera time. The Michigan game would be perfect- touchdowns galore!"
I'm frankly surprised they didn't get banned after Mark Ingram gave Nike their best free advertising of the year with his stupid "A" gloves in the BCS Championship game. As soon as I saw the pattern on the palms last Saturday I was filled with dread at the prospect of multiple classless tauntings, aided and encouraged by Nike.

OSU fans don't like the trend of faux-throwbacks for the Game, either. But as long as they beat us in them, they won't really complain. If we want respect, we've got to earn it.

I hated the uniforms last year. This year, I was sort of ambivalent about them. I still hate Nike for trying to turn us in to Oregon East, but I grew up down the street from Chuck Csuri, and once I found out they were basically one big homage to him, I couldn't really complain.

This whole thread would make sense if these students specified whether they were in a U of M class or somewhere else. If it's a Michigan class, I would expect that any true fan would voice their complaints, and any self-respecting prof/TA would in turn modify their approach.
No Michigan student should be expected to make an "O" gesture ever, let alone during football season. If this is going on, you should immediately contact MSC.

all of those gloves are designed by Nike for each team. I think the 11-12 Pro-Combat teams all got those. That's why I don't understand why they got flagged for showing the O. The teams get these gloves with logo's on them, and then get penalized for it. Sorry, this is certainly not a "pro-o$u" response..just a little annoyed by the whole thing.

After every touchdown, those Ohio State players looked at the cameras and held up their 'O' signs as if it was a meaningful gesture of school pride.
In reality, they were happily getting their shit pushed in by their corporate masters at Nike who had pimped the Buckeyes' team, aesthetic, and tradition out for the day to sell gloves to 13-18 year olds.
Fuck Nike and fuck Ohio State. They deserve each other. At least they flagged them for it.

I have no problem with the players themselves flashing those Nike gloves. They're just kids and they rightfully got excited.
What bothers me is Ohio State's decision to allow Nike to turn The Game into a fashion show. Even with all the hollow talk about "honoring the 1942 team", the Pro Combat uniforms from Nike are nothing more than a chance to showcase how 'superior' their 'sweat-wicking, high-performance' technology is. The school's identity and tradition take a backseat to Nike's attempt to take over the world of sports apparel. Whenever corporate interests encroach upon something I love, I take issue with it.
I tuned in hoping to see the winged helmets versus the silver bullets. Oh well. At least we held up our end of the bargain.

Does anyone remember when all of those meathead linebackers a few years ago -- Hawke, Bobby Carpenter, Schlegel etc. -- grew their hair long? They said they were doing it in honor of Chris Spielman. To me that was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. So is the "O" on the gloves. The only connection I guess is that it's Ohio State meatheadedness. When their players make that "O" I want to kick them in the nuts .

Those gloves remind me of a glory hole. They are that gray duct tape color. My guess is that their players are very familiar with glory holes and are simply remembering some good times at the rest stops in Ohio.

I used to have a smaller car that had to stop for gas in Ohio during the Ann Arbor to Pittsburgh drive. One of the happiest days of my life was getting a larger sedan, that while less fuel efficient than the small car has a big old tank and thus the range to ensure I never have to stop in Ohio. Fill up in Dundee and head for the PA border!

I think they were copying what Alabama did last year with their gloves, specifically Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. Those guys threw the diamond up after touchdowns and the gloves made an "A"
