ND's Golson no longer enrolled UPDATE: Academically ineligible for 2013

Submitted by BlockM on
[Ed-S: Changed timestamp to bump back to the top. According to statement released by ND he was suspended for "poor academic judgment" and plans to try to earn his way back for 2014.]

No idea what happened. Hope first of all that a) he's alright and b) no one else was affected by whatever happened. If a and b are true, then HAH!

BREAKING: Notre Dame confirms to WNDU that quarterback Everett Golson is no longer enrolled at ND. They can't say why due to privacy laws.

EDIT: WOTS is that it's for some sort of academic offense, possibly cheating, but that's all hearsay at the moment. Also, someone named Daniels is reportedly out as well, but I don't know who that is.

EDIT 2: New WOTS is that Golson may be expelled for one semester and that Daniels has not been booted. Probably best to just take everything with a massive grain of salt until everything becomes a little clearer.

People always post this but i've never watched it. I finally did. Now that 4 minutes of my life have been forever lost, I'd like to suggest this video is something that should go from "obligatory" to "banned to hell for all eternity."  That's the God-awfullest thing I've ever seen.

It's obligatory because it is a reminder of how terrible Notre Dame is.

This video is god awful, sounds horrible, looks horrible, is just overall a piece of shit, yet it somehow pretends to be the best video ever made.

That is essentially Notre Dame. Hence the meme. It's a metaphor, yo.

Or, some people post it simply because it is hilariously bad and Notre Dame made it. But no one posts it because they think it's good and people need to see it.

The #5 jersey at ND has now officially become a joke:

10h

If somebody tries to hand you a #5 jersey at Notre Dame, politely decline.

After the Manti Teo Catfish hoax and now the Everett Golson dismissal, does anyone ever buy or wear the #5 jersey in public again? Because there were a ton of them sold and still a lot on the marketplace.

$180 authentic #5 jersey:

Get your #5 Notre Dame cap here if the jersey was not enough:

administration for this action.  How many times have academic departments been pressured by the AD to brush things under the rug?

This is similar to the Dorsey issue.  The school would not commit this kid regardless of the AD because he did not meet minimum standards.  I was sad for Dorsey and RR but happy to see this action.

Congrats to ND for sticking to their guns.  I would hope we do the same in the future.

And Kiel already transferred...Tommy Rees is the man once again?  I'm fine with that!  Just goes to show that anything can happen and sticking it out isn't necessarily a bad thing!  Kiel could have been ND's starting QB and decided pastures were greener elsewhere.

...due to an exception clause.

http://www.athleticscholarships.net/2013/05/25/how-gunner-kiel-could-play-for-nd-this-year.htm

Bylaw 14.5.5.2.8, the Return to Original Institution Without Participation or With Minimal Participation Exception says that a student-athlete can play immediately after a transfer if:

The student transfers to a second four-year collegiate institution, does not compete at the second institution and does not engage in other countable athletically related activities in the involved sport at the second institution beyond a 14-consecutive-day period and returns to the original institution. The 14-consecutive-day period begins with the date on which the student-athlete first engages in any countable athletically related activity (see Bylaw 17.02.1). A student may use this exception even if he or she has an unfulfilled residence requirement at the institution from which he or she is transferring.

My ND friend is freaking out. And she's begging Gunner to come back. (How would that work? Would he be allowed to without sitting out since he said he's transferring?)

There has to be something really big that happened, like felony big.

Was it a "you're never going to see the field here, kid, have at it" type Brian Kelly release?  Or did he burn his bridges?

Depending on how he left, Brain Kelly may not want him back.

Unintentional original typo on the "Brain Kelly", but it made me laugh, so I'm leaving it

And as to the discovery of Tom Golson cheating, is anyone really surprised by it?
