MSU grad posts WSJ article about Disrespekt

Submitted by hailtothevectors on

Wall Street Journal essay was published today by Sparty grad, who is basically tired of the consistent slights that her school has received.  From the relentless butchering of their coach's name (is it Mike D'Antonio) to the use of the block M next to Michigan State or CBS just showing that it's Michigan vs Alabama in the college football Playoff or getting a Michigan doormat when she ordered an MSU one (sounds like she lucked out).

Either way, it must be rough liking "Michigan's Other School"

For years, the clarinet section was Michigan-dominated. Master's students from Michigan would take auditions and whup on all comers from State, up to and including their clarinet faculty.

Then the audition committee started fixing auditions to install Sparty faculty clarinetists, after MSU Music fired its old clarinet faculty. No respect for your music school, little bro. None.

We also beat them head-to-head in Fischoff a few years back.

M cares about class, respect and honor.
MSU cares about winning, even if it means playing players who pulled guns on others in a road rage incident.

M supports the teams and fills the stadiums (including Yost and Chrysler).
MSU doesn't, even when in the top 5 nationally.

M cares about being the best.
MSU cares about how they compare to M.

Whats funny is that sparty fans always mention the "walmart wolverine" or "michigan bandwagon" slogan BUT they are too fuckin blind to see that their fan base has the biggest bandwagon fans and biggest cowards. I cant remember last time i saw sooo much msu gear as of lately...actually i have never seen this much msu gear period, even when they won the NC in basketball. Now it seems like everyone is an msu fan all of the sudden...true fans stay true to their team no matter how bad they have been/are.

3 of my friends grew up Michigan fans through and through and converted to MSU fans in the last few years.
One of them was trying to get me to go with them to the NC game (they are assuming they will beat Alabama so they already booked flights, and accommodations).

His logic was he would totally go if Michigan was playing so why can't I go to watch State?

I love how MSU fans gloat about 7 of 8, yet they don't recall that it happened against 2 of the worst football coaches in Michigan history. Even if Lloyd Carr stayed, 7 of 8 never happens.

Great another Sparty thread.  Do we look like we're jealous when we post Sparty threads on the day of their semi-playoff game?

Yes, we do.  And, it's disgusting.

You'd go to MSU over UM. You either grew up a complete die hard of the school or you wanted to be a vet. Outside of that...

I don't always tell people I got into Michigan. But when I do, I write to the Wall Street Journal. Stay thirsty sparty. I hope tonight is as embarrassing to their fans as the day their thin envelopes arrived from Ann Arbor.

Then one day that response drew a rebuke from an auto-industry executive I was interviewing for a story. He, a fellow Midwesterner, shot back that he’d rather be a “good, blue-collar school” graduate than “a pansy-a** Ivy-League type.” Never again did I apologize for being a Spartan.

Pansy-ass Ivy League type indeed. Hmpf. *continues to obsessively pair wines with this week's planned dinners*

In all seriousness though, this article really does speak to the reality of that inferiority complex and that obsession with Michigan that they want us so badly to reciprocate but (at least most folks) just can't, mainly because they just don't care enough and rightly so.

If she is trying to make the point that MSU's journalism program is so much stronger, why does she mention that the staff of the WSJ is full of Michigan alums (and absent of MSU alums).

Hard to believe such a sniveling pity piece could be published in a newspaper as respected as the Wall Street Journal.  Aside from failing to mentioning the fact no couch will be safe in East Lansing tonight should MSU actually beat Alabama, she had the audacity to cheaply and gratutitously snipe  she did not think anyone at MSU would cry about losing a football game like Michigan fans did this year after losing on the miracle last play of the game (not personally aware of any M fan crying, except maybe a little kid).  I guess she has never watched the MSU basketball coach work Iofficials or talk about his team injuries duing a big ten season.   The article is hilarious and pathetic at the same time  for it's lack of journalistic integrity and relevance.  You have to wonder if her  editor was on vacation for such sniveling drivel  to be published.  Hope she keeps her job.
