MSU grad posts WSJ article about Disrespekt

Submitted by hailtothevectors on

Wall Street Journal essay was published today by Sparty grad, who is basically tired of the consistent slights that her school has received.  From the relentless butchering of their coach's name (is it Mike D'Antonio) to the use of the block M next to Michigan State or CBS just showing that it's Michigan vs Alabama in the college football Playoff or getting a Michigan doormat when she ordered an MSU one (sounds like she lucked out).

Either way, it must be rough liking "Michigan's Other School"

MSU's own fans don't even respect the program.  Their stadium was 50-70% full for most of the season, and this is probably their best team in 40 years.

Yep. How depressing must it be to spend 90 million on two new additions, luxury boxes, a new press-box, an alumni association, an entrance plaza, new locker rooms, gates, additional restrooms and concessions, a media center, an engagement center, rise to #2 in the country, and then have this for your conference opener?

It's like dropping 90 million on the world's second-best Buzkashi team.  Nobody cares.

Why does nobody like us? We're really good but just injured right now. Why do the refs and Jim Delaney hate us? All these things could be said about us too. A lot of people don't like us, we've had tons of injuries on the dl, and we've had tons of bad refs miss calls that hurt us but when these things happen to Michigan State we never hear the end of it. Their coaches talk about how they're being slighted by everyone. It's annoying.

I grew up in western PA.  You could sub Penn St in for this same comment.  It was terrible growing up there listening to all the excuses and how the refs were against them. I still hear about how it was bullshit that they put 2 seconds back on the clock at the end of the 2005 PSU/UM game.  Also...  Sandusky!

and never will.  Keep crying because your team is in the playoff but struggles to sell out their stadium for home games.  The only way they think they can grow their brand is by screaming DISRESPKT.  I can't wait till Harbaugh lays it to them.

And for the most part they really are awful people. Recently one of them went on a long rant about "Walmart Wolverines". Our SVP just looked at me and smirked before he walked away. Said SVP is a huge Michigan fan. Who went to Ferris. Sparty girl spent 5 mins insulting her boss without even knowing it. I very much enjoyed pointing that out to her later.

and she writes mostly about disrespekt from Michigan fans and relatives?  Instead of detailing MSU's success, player development, etc?  Opportunity wasted.

This is exactly why the Little Brother moniker still persists. Here's another example. Why is it that in the days leading up to the B1G championship against IOWA, they're still bringing up The Punt? Damn near two months later,  the conference championship and a playoff berth on the line, and my Facebook time line is blowing up with that stupid ass rendition of The Night Before Christmas. Shows were their priorities are.

She chose to go to a party school over a world class institution...as someone who has attended both schools, it isn't even close academically. Earning a 4.0 at MSU is about equivalent with a 3.4 or 3.3 at U of M in my estimation. Michigan is in another league, and always will be as long as we have superior academics. The average Spartan is more concerned with partying than learning. They don't have any Stephen Rosses or Charlie Mungers or Gerald Fords. They still can't fill up their tiny stadium even when their team is approaching elite status... That says it all about how irrelevant they are. Do we even need to talk about how classless their average fan is? I heard several shouts about breaking Denard's leg during the "unnecessary roughness" Trash Bowl. Do we dare go into their willingness to play felons? Their fan base doesn't care about ethics. As far as I'm concerned they don't deserve any respect.

I sat on an admissions committee for a graduate program for years at UM. The students coming out of MSU with 3.9-4.0 GPAs had GRE scores on their general and subject tests more on par with NW/UM/Berkley/UCLA/equivalent grads with 3.0s. The chair literally told us to disregard high GPAs that come out of MSU and for good reason.

was deferred at Michigan but accepted in State's Honor Program.  She has two classmates with similar offers after being deferred.  The funny thing is that all 3 are pissed at Michigan, and don't plan to wait to see if they get in...but none of them will even entertain the idea of Michigan State.

And went to the best journalism program in the state. Michigan doesn't have one. She worked her ass off in college, was editor of the State News and went on to work for the Detroit news and the Wall Street Journal.

Isn't this the epitome of pride which supposedly comes before a fall? This screams of little bro syndrome. Wow. Pathetic.

By the way. You won't be #1 in hoops on Monday little sis

People outside my home state may wonder why the Spartans would be confused for so inferior a school, by recent sports standards. MSU won two out of the last three Big Ten football titles. (Ohio State won the other.) Meanwhile, MSU’s basketball team is currently ranked No. 1. Since 2005 it has appeared in four Final Fours. During that time, Michigan appeared in one.

Heh, perhaps because people have longer memories than the last three years? Or even the last ten years?  Also, I think she answered her own question with "Perhaps it reflects Michigan’s higher (OK, much higher) academic ranking"

about where you got into college?? since my child is now in high school, I guess I will tell people where I got accepted and rejected if they ask, but who volunteers this information unless you have an inferiority complex??. Just be happy with your choice!
