I'd put Wormley as a lock.

I'd put Wormley as a lock.  Dude is a monster.

I commented on this in the

I commented on this in the other thread, but Dean Spanos proposed a $1.8B stadium complex downtown, of which the Chargers would pay $350M and the NFL would provide as a $300M loan.  Spanos sees other owners soaking their cities for public funds (such as here in Seattle), and wants some of those sweet sweet public dollars, but the taxpayers called his bluff.  This is after a decade of ticket guarantees in which the city paid for every single unsold home game ticket.

My opinion, as a Chargers fan growing up, is don't let the door hit you on the ass, Dean.

Grew up in San Diego

Chargers fan as a kid, loved Junior and Butts and Means all the way up through LT and Gates, but Spanos has been pulling this shit and soaking the taxpayers the whole fucking way.  They even had a seat guarantee where the city bought up all the unsold seats.  At every home game.  For ten years.

So long Spanos.  You want a new stadium, you pay for it.  Hell, San Diego is probably one of the smarter cities if they let the team walk; viewership is dropping and the stadium costs just keep climbing, meaning cities with NFL franchises lose more and more money.  The Chargers had a $1.8B proposal for a downtown stadium.  The Chargers offered to pay $350M of that.  GTFO with that.

Those powder blues definitely still the best uniform in the NFL, though.

I'm glad you were able to

I'm glad you were able to accept Defeat With Dignity, proving that you were worthy of Sparty Honors all along.

I lost it at Johnny Cage.

I lost it at Johnny Cage.  Sure, he came about before Axe was even a gleam in Unilever's eye, but he's been waiting all this time for his very own signature scent.

Plus, we all know how fond Sparties are of nut-punches.

You claimed that it would be

You claimed that it would be okay to get chewed out by a male boss, but much worse to be chewed out by a female boss who is "pms-ing."  It seems obvious that you deem women to be less worthy of respect than men.  Ergo, misogyny.  If you're offended by that tag, maybe consider why you're offended.

It bums me out that

It bums me out that misogynist dumbshits like you still exist.  It's 2016.

I mean, you take what they

I mean, you take what they give you.  Load up 9 men in the box every play? Then kill em with passing, which is what we did.  I'll take 119 yards rushing if we outscore the opposition by what, 37 points.  Obv the pass-blocking can't have been that bad.

On the other hand, we had 328

On the other hand, we had 328 yards of passing and Speight had four TDs.  So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That is some poor dental hygiene.  Maybe these guys should brush their teeth.

Also, never listen to Down by 311. Or anything else by 311.

Well, I'm not the only one

Well, I'm not the only one out here keeping an eye out for when you do.  Looking forward to it.

I've found it (and Hopslam)

I've found it (and Hopslam) in San Diego, but the northwest is the last place they're rolling out distribution to.  On the other hand, we've got lots of great breweries here.  But I miss Two-Hearted.

Hanging out with the dog and the toddler twins today; it's a cool 60 F and cloudy here in the great Pacific NW.  Wish we had Two-Hearted here. After the girls go to bed I'm gonna have a Reuben's Brews gose or two.

Last fullback I really recall

Last fullback I really recall being a beast was big badass Lorenzo Neal.  Blocked for 1000+ yard rushers for 11 straight seasons, career lasted 16 fucking years in the NFL.  The dude was a monster.  Here's hoping Houma gets a bit of that going on.

If there was any doubt the

If there was any doubt the NCAA is headed by spineless lightweights that will twist whichever way the wind is blowing, it has been removed.

I guess it's not clear that

I guess it's not clear that there has been no adverse impact on folks, because the data simply hasn't been collected and analyzed.  I'd guess you're probably right; by and large people get by with no noticeable impacts to their quality of life.  Still, this research will help us better understand things when they do go bad for people like Tyler Sash and Junior Seau, and how to help them.

I think the research is important.  I also think science reporting is the worst type of reporting, because they go way beyond the conclusions of the article and try to draw eyeballs and ad revenue by drawing the wrost possible conclusions.

There's a big difference

There's a big difference between normal everyday living and an organized activity that involves ramming into other people at high rates of speed on a daily basis.

This research is important, not because of the fear-mongering in this thread and the whole WHAT ABOUT THE FANS bullshit, but rather how can we learn to better protect our kids and our players?  New equipment? Changes to the game? New treatment options for CTE?  Everything is on the table, but we have to understand the mechanism first.

Football is going to change.  It's inevitable.  We need to understand the scientific basis of the injuries so we can change it for the better, or else it's going to dry up and blow away as parents weigh the risks vs benefits.

That's funny, the Journal of

That's funny, the Journal of Neurotrauma seems to think that this is indeed science.  Or were you one of the peer reviewers? http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/neu.2015.4267

There's an argument to be made that this is poor science reporting, in that the researchers themselves state the following: "It is important to note, the pathological implications of these metrics are not well understood.  In summary, we demonstrate a single season of high school football can produce DKI measurable changes in the absence of a clinically diagnosed concussion."

And also: "Our sample size is relatively small; however, it is one of the largest studies of non-concussed high school football players to include biomechanics, imaging, and cognitive data to date."

What the researchers conclude is that a single season of high school football can indeed change brain structure.  Beyond that, more studies are needed, including a larger cohort, control groups, etc.

Couple shirts, a hoody, two

Couple shirts, a hoody, two hats, and my M workout shorts. I would include a track jacket but the wife has staked a claim to that.

I'm consistly blown away by how many Go Blues I get out here on the west coast, first in the Bay Area and now in Seattle.  Alumni are everywhere!

Sadly, I'm guessing the next game I'll get to go to will be when the team comes out to play the Huskies in 2020.

Who benefits from that little

Who benefits from that little clause "...or at facilities regularly used for practice or competition,"?  Are there schools that regularly use other facilities to practice/play?  I guess SDSU uses Qualcomm instead of their own stadium, but this little rule was specifically proposed and passed to benefit the SEC. Do SEC schools regularly camp away from school facilities?

Perhaps Jim should just change it from "Camp" to something just a little different.  A team-building vacation!

This asshole organization

This asshole organization can't die soon enough.

Sturdy, roomy, and stealthy

Sturdy, roomy, and stealthy are definitely adjectives that come to mind when I think of Gerald Ford.

That D-line and secondary is

That D-line and secondary is ridiculous.  Hopefully should balance out any growing pains in the linebackers.

Johnson TD pitch with Kerridge and Cole leading the way.

Watching Kerridge block his dude out of the stadium...I'm gonna miss that.

(No subject)

I think it's normal for

I think it's normal for freshmen; my undergrad was considered a safety school for bay area kids who didn't get in to Berkeley and it was a real sore point for some of them.  But grown-ass adults in professional settings? That's some serious long-term inferiority complex you got there.

People outside my home state

People outside my home state may wonder why the Spartans would be confused for so inferior a school, by recent sports standards. MSU won two out of the last three Big Ten football titles. (Ohio State won the other.) Meanwhile, MSU’s basketball team is currently ranked No. 1. Since 2005 it has appeared in four Final Fours. During that time, Michigan appeared in one.

Heh, perhaps because people have longer memories than the last three years? Or even the last ten years?  Also, I think she answered her own question with "Perhaps it reflects Michigan’s higher (OK, much higher) academic ranking"

Every year up until this

Every year up until this year, we could "work" from home (i.e. respond to emails reasonably promptly) for the week between Xmas and NY.  New boss says gotta be in the office, despite not having a damn thing to do.  Frrt
