Moore Nominated for Broyles Award

I saw that Moore was nominated for the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football.  Am I the only one who suspects that our Big 10 Commissioner will intercede to remove Moore from consideration because he served too many games as a head coach?

Usually, I’m a big fan of due process, let everyone have their say.  In this case, it’s over.  Just give it to Moore now.  He should win assistant and head coach of the year.  And the Joe Moore award.  Hell, give him a Grammy/Emmy for his PSU post game.  He deserves all good.

Phil Parker having to call defensive plays KNOWING that Iowa's offense will NEVER bail him out, pick up his slack, or win a shootout... I don't know guys. That's impressive.

Here's the definitive list of leads that Iowa's defense gave up:

  • 1 point lead vs MSU -> 6 point deficit (then held MSU scoreless for the rest of the game)
  • 1 point lead vs Minn -> 3 point deficit
  • 2 point lead vs Ill -> 1 point deficit
  • 6 point lead vs Ill - > 4 point deficit
  • 10 point lead vs Neb -> tie

That's IT. 5 blown leads in 4 games led to exactly 1 (undeserved) loss

It's hard to see how anything any other assistant coach has done this year tops Moore's achievement.

For the games he worked as head coach: does he get extra points for working so smoothly with his assistant offensive coordinator?

I think that Moore could make a case for B1G Coach Of The Year (if that's even possible).  It can't be Day or Franklin.  Ferentz put an absolutely awful product on the field this year.  That basically leaves it Braun at Northwestern who was 5-4 in the conference (7-5 overall).  Moore's two Top 10 wins are way better than what anybody else did in the conference.
