Mixed feelings from David Cornwell (2014 QB)
David Cornwell seems to be somewhat disappointed with how Michigan handled the offer to Wilton. I am assuming there is no way Michigan is getting both Cornwell and Wilton? I am aware and prepared to get the Twitter Haters usual responses of "why do you look at high school kids twitters" but today's signing day is a bit slow for Michigan...
Tough Deal today thought Michigan would at least tell me. Still plan in calling at 12 today
Not saying I would have committed to Michigan, but they were defiantly towards the top
Proud of my man @WiltonSpeight great to get to know him over the last week we will see each other soon!
Will come out with a new top 5 tonight, calls with Michigan, Tennessee, Bama, Virginia Tech today

I'm confident the staff will handle things well when they talk at noon. If they're going to take 2 in the class, which apparently they probably won't, the door should still be open with Cornwell.

Huh. A teenager is being stupidly touchy. Go figure.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:39 AM ^
What about his tweets were stupidly touchy? Disappointed, sure. Congratulatory to Wilton, yes.
Amadeo De La Valle (Hoops Recruit) borderlined on stupidly touchy, but I wouldn't even describe his reaction like that either. More just hilarious.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:44 AM ^
The implication that Michigan did something "without telling [him]"...when he has a schedule conversation with them in an hour.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:54 AM ^
Well, I think the implication was that he may have committed, or at least would have liked to talk it over. It's a bit late for that now. I don't think you get the context.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:57 AM ^
They had a covnersation with Speight this morning, they offered. He accepted.
They have a conversation scheduled with Cornwell later today. It seems like everyone, including Cornwell, is assuming what they will say. I'm not.

So if a kid gives Brady Hoke his verbal commitment for a certain position, and then without telling him, Hoke goes and visits other schools to talk with recruits, does that end the commitment?
February 6th, 2013 at 12:01 PM ^
A kid can only go to one school. A school cannot only take 1 kid. See the difference?
February 6th, 2013 at 12:18 PM ^
One-to-many vs. many-to-one.
February 6th, 2013 at 2:31 PM ^
one to one (player, school)
February 6th, 2013 at 11:39 AM ^
It's nice he included that third tweet, seems like a good kid with strong interest in Michigan. I hope we continue to pursue him
February 6th, 2013 at 11:47 AM ^
I agree, it's nice that he congratulated Speight.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:44 AM ^
Your post seems more stupidly touchy than Cornwell's.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:50 AM ^
:(
I think it's a bit whiny for a kid to complain that he didn't get communicated with when he has a scheduled conversation with the people he accuses for the lack of communication. Especially when the lack of communication comes on a relatively busy day.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:55 AM ^
Yeah...but he's a high school junior who was (perhaps) thinking he might get his dream school offer today, and he presumably found out through the media that some other kid already got offered and likely took his spot.
If he responds with "Tough deal I thought they would at least tell me," I don't see how that's stupidly touchy. He's a teenager. He's not a 45-year-old CEO who's well versed in public relations.
February 6th, 2013 at 12:00 PM ^
He's a teenager. He's not a 45-year-old CEO who's well versed in public relations.
Didn't I say this?
Further - do you, Cornwell, or anyone know, factually, how many QB's the team intends to take?
February 6th, 2013 at 12:01 PM ^
No, you didn't. Or if you did, I don't see it.
And no, I don't know, which is why I said "likely." It's admitted to be a presumption.
February 6th, 2013 at 12:09 PM ^
It was my whole fucking comment, you twit:
A teenager is being stupidly touchy. Go figure.
IE - I don't expect more - he is a teenager, and acting as such.
February 6th, 2013 at 12:17 PM ^
Maybe you should take the rest of the day off there slugger.
February 6th, 2013 at 12:17 PM ^
And yet he's still not being stupidly touchy.
I hope you enjoy calling people names. Speaking of touchy...
February 6th, 2013 at 1:00 PM ^
Wait, who's acting like a teenager here?
February 6th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
Except nothing in your comment showed that distinction, except, apparently a sarcastic comment about him being a touchy teenager.
It would be equivalent to me saying that chitownblue2 is an anonymous poster trolling hard because he is a sad little person. I did note factually that you are an anonymous poster. Words vs. meaning thing.

I remember several years ago he took over this blog for a week while Brian was on vacation!

I don't think the coach's made a hasty decision. Based on the info we've been given, they took their time and did an exhaustive examination of each potential offeree. Apparently they though Speight was more worthy of the initial offer. (That, or they felt they could lock up a commitment from him faster than Cornwell).
February 6th, 2013 at 11:37 AM ^
Not getting the news you wanted isn't easy, especially when it's about something like this.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:37 AM ^
Reasonable emotions to have. Maybe he wasn't the #1 option though, in which case can you expect Michigan to call every QB on their list to give them the news? He'll talk it over with the coaches and either continue his recruitment with Michigan and exploring his other options. Ultimately there are a limited number of spots and Michigan knew they were in a power position with recruiting QBs, can't blame them for wanting to wrap it up early when multiple great QBs were interested.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:46 AM ^
There were supposedly only three guys on Michigan's top list, so it wouldn't be that hard to call all of them. Not saying they should have, just that it's not many phone calls.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:57 AM ^
minute or two. I don't blame Cornwell for being dissappointed, and his tweets were certainly not offensive or over the top, but today must be an incredibly busy time attending to new and prospective recruits, let alone having to deal with kids who aren't going to be part of the program.
February 6th, 2013 at 12:10 PM ^
THEY ARE CALLING HIM.
HE SAYS SO IN HIS TWEET.
AAAAHHHHHH
February 6th, 2013 at 12:19 PM ^
Actually, it says he's calling them.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:39 AM ^
Cornwelll knew the deal, and acted accordingly... now he shouldn't pout when he didn't get his cake AND eat it too.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:45 AM ^
What the hell are you talking about?
February 6th, 2013 at 11:46 AM ^
That he knew a Michigan offer in this case, would be only one that needs to be accepted on the spot... he wanted his offer but without any committment... THAT is what I'm talking about... was it that hard to understand?
February 6th, 2013 at 11:47 AM ^
Well, the coaches had backed off the "You'll need to accept on the spot" deal. So your post isn't really relevant to the situation.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:48 AM ^
I stand corrected, and was not aware of that.
February 6th, 2013 at 11:53 AM ^
I am not sure that Cornwell is pouting or unjustifiably wanted a little time to consider UM rather than immediate YES.
But to your point, it sounds like the staff rated "interest" as perhaps more important (at least a tie-breaker) than talent in their choice. Passionate buy-in is a critical trait in a team leader.
Actually think the staff, Wilton and Cornwell are handling it fine.
February 6th, 2013 at 1:24 PM ^
Not sure why the assclowns thought your post was trolling. So far it seems the most logical one of the thread....

February 6th, 2013 at 12:37 PM ^
You planning a Speight post today, or taking some time after today? Also, I would assume no ranking based on Junior and soph film alone..?...
February 6th, 2013 at 11:56 AM ^
I'm in the camp that would like to see them carry four QBs at all times, and Cornwell is very impressive to my untrained eye. FWIW, it seemed very legitimate to me to rate him as the No.1 guy whom we knew had interest in the Wolverines.
February 6th, 2013 at 1:59 PM ^
At least in 2014 -- Gardner, Bellomy, Morris, and Speight. I suppose Gardner could leave early, or someone gets hurt, transfers, or whatever, but as it stands now, we would have four in 2014, and could look to the 2015 to replace Garder.
I do agree with you tho -- if there was attrition at the QB position between now and next NSD, I would likek to take two QB's next year. I do not like the lack of the depth at the position this year. Just ask Maryland how that can go.
