Mike Leach makes it clear how the Heisman winner is chosen

Of course the Alabama player wins.

Wish it was about who is the best. Sometimes they do pick the best, Bo Jackson, Barry Sanders, etc. But usually no.

...except for the fact that it's not an act.

You could say the same about Jim Harbaugh...except his isn't an act either. Those are two of the most unapologetically genuine coaches in the county.

Doesn't mean you have to love either of them, but never of them is acting.

Acting would be...Brian Kelly.

Mike Leach called a team made up entirely of players he recruited frauds, right before he bolted for another job. Guy is a douche. And some of the people here that fall all over themselves to praise him kept lamenting the lack of hardware under Harbaugh. The fuck has Leach won?

My love of Michigan and A Hutchinson aside, can people really not admit the best player in CFB won the Heisman tonight? There should be no shame for any of players who were runners up. Except for Stroud... he should be ashamed of going to OSU.

Alabama would have been dead in the water if not for Bryce. Last two games, he made it happen. So, the question is Heisman a trophy for best player in Football or best player for their team. If the first, it is Hutch. If it is second, it is Bryce. I have no problem Bryce getting it, but unsure how he is the best player in CFB if your team has other competitive and good players. What Hutch did was even more impressive give another top 15 projected NFL draft pick is playing on the other side of the line.

100%. Young won the votes in every region in a landslide. I really wanted Aidan to win, but it’s not controversial in the slightest, well, anywhere but on a Michigan message board, that Bryce Young was named Most Outstanding Player. That he, a defensive player, finished second is incredible and is something worth celebrating alone. And if this is the motivation he needs to beat Georgia and, likely, Alabama, it will be well worth it.

Yes? What does it even mean for it to be political? It's a lame trophy but it's always pretty obvious. QB of a top 5 team with great stats unless a WR or RB has record breaking stats and then maybe they get a chance. Not sure how that's political.

It's political for several reasons - one of which is that it almost always goes to a player on a team that is winning some gorm of championship.  There have been numerous glaring years where the *best* player by far was either on 1) a "power" team that finished with an average record or 2) a non-"power" team... those guys will never be given the Heisman and often don't even receive an invite to the ceremony (yet they frequently make almost immediate impact in the nfl).

Yes I get how it's awarded. It's basically what I said. What about that makes it "political"? This feels like people are just using that word because it has negative connotations. I could understand if people thought there were shady backroom deals between voters and coaches or something but no one seems to claim that. The voting is very straightforward, unimaginative, and predictable, but I don't see how that's political.

Come on guys. I know we all would love to see our guy win the Heisman. But its not like Young is some undeserving winner.

We can't have threads like this one and the Vince Young thread and still be able to rag on MSU or Bama for complaining about Walker and Anderson getting a raw deal.

I will always admire Mike Leach for one thing among others - signing a copy of his own book with the note "CJK5H". I still laugh at this when I think about it and it has been a decade since it happened.

Bryce Young is a very good player, he had a top-notch performance in Alabama's most important game of the year, and the Heisman will always go to an offensive player unless 100 stars align in some unique fashion align for a defensive player as it did (a once in a 500 year event, if we're being honest) in 1997.

It's not political, it's just what it is.

Sure, the best player didn't win, but that player is not Hutchinson. The best player in college football is Will Anderson. I would say Young is more deserving than Hutch and its only on this board that this is considered "rigged" or an unjust outcome.
