Calls like that are why I can't be a diehard basketball fan. Too much of the outcome is in the hands of the officials.
And football is going in that direction w/ pass interference and roughing the passer, etc.
I hate the counter argument that "UM shouldn't have put themselves in that position and then they couldn't have been screwed by the refs." Games against good teams are going to be close! That was the best posible position that Michigan could manage agaisnt the nations #1 team, and then a ref hands Arizona 2 free shots to take the lead ... so lame.

Greg Anthony getting a chance for a personal ass kiss for all the AZ players.
December 14th, 2013 at 2:19 PM ^
Yeah seriously, eff him. He wouldn't shut up about them. Did he say anything positive about Michigan, I can't even recall, but I can recall about 10 times him slob-knobbin' over Arizona,

December 14th, 2013 at 2:40 PM ^
I admit I don't recall that. I believe it, though. I must have "caught him" when he was doing the Arizona loving which seemed like a lot more to me. Is there much else, though? Everytime I expected him to make a point about Michigan's offense it seemed he'd actually go in to something about Arizona's defense; similar things happened a couple times. It doesn't matter, I've the ability to mute it, but the end interviews he did just seemed to amplify my perception on his 'Zona "lovin'"

And for the __th time Beilein chokes again
December 14th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
Yeah, his team sure wasn't clutch last spring (or against FSU this year for that matter).
December 14th, 2013 at 2:23 PM ^
Never said he wasn't a good coach. Trey Burke is responsible for most of the success last season though. Beilein's teams have never done well against big time opponents minus the Trey Burke years.
December 14th, 2013 at 2:27 PM ^
Hmmm, I was unaware that Burke played on those West Virginia teams that went to the Elite Eight and Sweet 16.
December 14th, 2013 at 2:30 PM ^
And the Darius Morris years, and the Manny Harris years. Plus the Pitznoggle years at WVU. Dude, no.
December 14th, 2013 at 2:46 PM ^
What is this logic? When he wins, it's thanks to his players, but when he loses, it's because he choked?

December 14th, 2013 at 3:39 PM ^
If you're looking for logic, you might be looking in the wrong place right now.
December 14th, 2013 at 5:49 PM ^
You can't remember how many times Beilein has made great adjustments to win games. Dude dismantled some really great teams in the tournament last year and even this year unleashed the 1-3-1 to mount the comeback versus a good FSU team
If you're going to complain about John F'ing Beilein, then literally nothing will make you happy
December 14th, 2013 at 7:12 PM ^
I feel like going all Zack Novak leadership aneursym on you right now. But I'll refrain.
December 14th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
I'd be more than happy to have Amaker back...oh...right. The guy took us to the National Championship game, clearly some people here just can't be pleased.

Yep, time to fire John Beilein. What a loser... guy obviously can't coach in the clutch. Brandon should hire Larry Brown, I read on the internet that Michigan is his dream job.

Here are some select stats for the board's education and perusal:
Arizona | Michigan | |
FG% | 44.26% | 50.00% |
3FG% | 40.00% | 47.06% |
FT% | 93.33% | 82.35% |
Effective FG% | 47.54% | 58.33% |
Rebounds | 37 | 24 |
Off. Rebound % | 48.57% | 23.08% |
Def. Rebound % | 76.92% | 51.43% |
Assists | 14 | 9 |
Turnovers | 9 | 11 |
December 14th, 2013 at 3:06 PM ^
I wasn't able to catch the game....who had the tough game in the rebounding department?
December 14th, 2013 at 7:17 PM ^
We did get annihilated on the boards today.
AZ: 17 offensive reb
UM: 18 defensive reb
Stauskas led us with 5 defensive rebounds. Mitch uncharacteristicly struggled defensive rebounding (1 rebound).
December 14th, 2013 at 3:14 PM ^
IMO turnovers may have been the difference. I know 11 isn't many but last years team may have only had half that with Burke at PG. If Michigan only had 5 turnovers today they probably win. But we're a young team and will improve. Overall I was pretty impressed with out performance today.

Facts: we didn't rebound well defensively
Missed free throw by Spike threw off the end of game foul strategy
We are still a work in progress

That nickel/dime foul call on McGrady pretty much sealed the game for Arizona. That leaves a more bitter taste in my mouth than blowing an 11-point lead because it's not like the team completely imploded at any one point of the game.

completely agree - that lame ass call decided the last 30 seconds. how does he make that call at that point in the game. swallow your damn whistle.

how you can say the B1G is down...
Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin are all Top 5
Michigan, Indiana, and Iowa make up a great seconed tier
Third tear, which will still see teams get in the NCAAs: Purdue, Illinois, and Minnesota.
and Nebraska and Penn State are OK and N'Western is bad. BUT compared to every other conference, Big Ten is by far the best
December 14th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
Brutal for a UM fan lately...since last years title game in BBall it just seems we cant get a break and the close ones are not going our way....ughh
December 14th, 2013 at 5:01 PM ^
"Last year's national title game." That says it right there. It's not like we haven't seen any success for the last thirty years. Also, what about the breaks in the win against NW? This is sports, this is what you signed up for.
I don't know what people expect around here, but a national title game eight months ago after one of the best seasons we've had in a very long time, and we're now whining about losing to the number 1 team in the country by 2 points?
Tough loss, could have won it, but good heavens people. The team I saw today looked much better than in previous games. Lots of potential, but I think Walton and Irvin are going to need to grow up a bit more before they're real contenders.
December 14th, 2013 at 5:48 PM ^
Agree about Walton and Irvin. I'm psyched to see Beilein develop them over the next few years. Of course, I'd love it if they were awesome right now, but I'm thinking of how good they'll be next year and beyond.

You do not remember Akron, UConn and Northwestern this year in football do you?

December 14th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
My outlook for the team from the beginning has not changed. This is a sweet 16 team. I am confident that we will make a good run at the B1G championship (probably fall just short).
You have to remember this team is very young and with Beilein, this team will get better and will play best at the tourney.
I am satisfied with what I have seen so far.
