Since Harbaugh took over, there have been 24 playoff polls released

Michigan has been ranked in 19 of 24

Top 15 in 18 of 24

Top 10 in 13 of 24

Top 5 in 9 of 24

Friendly reminder we were 5-7 with losses to Rutgers, Maryland, Minnesota and Utah the year before he took over (not to mention being outscored by ND,MSU and OSU 108-39).

If Psu loses to osu, they are out. If lsu loses to ablalama, they will shoot to number one. A loss to ablalama is a win.

all hail ablalama

Edit: Apparently lost on some here, even w/ the link posted above by Sleepy, is that sarcasm is often communicated online w/ alternating caps...soooooo...yeah.  So this isn't criticism of JMFH's contract- it's actually support.  ThAnKs FoR mAkInG tHe JoKe FuNnY tHoUgH!

I'm not sure I agree that it is technically sarcasm in the true sarcasm sense.  I think it is more done to mock a certain thought or statement.  So when he says "SeVeN MiLlIoN DoLlArS To FiNiSh ThIrD", he isn't saying that sarcastically, he is mocking the people who come on here and constantly throw that statement around.

I don’t get the whole money thing. He is paid because it’s what the market dictates. Believe or not, he has options and can get an NFL job if he chooses.

it sucks we lose to OSU but right now we’re at at recruiting disadvantage (just like everyone minus about 4 schools). It’s  hard to beat their success over the last 15 years, plus the in-state talent is insane and they don’t leave the state. This is the reality we deal with. Sure, JH could’ve had better game plans I guess, but you could say the same thing about Urban in a couple games. Difference is talent bailed him out.

Maybe we could get lucky, start over and find a better fit, but that’s huge gamble. I think JH has proven he’s good enough and deserves more time.

Honestly, since osu became one of the biggest powerhouses in college football history. We are not playing against "really awesome" osu teams. OSU is tied with alabama with like 7 losses in their last 100 games or something insane like that.

I do understand your sentiment and am not advocating for a loser mentality yet I think it's worth recognizing osu is doing something historically great and I don't know how UM catches up. It's quite similar to how so many SEC teams have felt for 12 years. A lot of damn good teams down there that have to shrug their shoulders and think "well shit" and just keep trying.

Hey maybe LSU caught up this year and the tables will turn and the lesson is...just keep on pressing on and as long as you are ascending keep grinding away.

Again, I'm not a proponent of the loser mentality but it's worth recognizing UM is fighting against historically great. But yeah screw 'em...all UM can do is keep moving forward.

My guess is his .830 winning percentage and six big ten titles contribute as much to his hero status as his lone national championship.  He also made it to another title game.  Finally, let's not forget his 9-1 record against us.

Do you believe Lloyd Carr to be on equal footing with Tressel?

It's amazing that you lump Carr and Tressel together because of national title counts. Carr's downturn after Tressel was hired was immediate.

Michigan had a combined 5-0 turnover advantage in the '05-'06 games and lost both. Do you know how difficult that is to do? And yet it still happened because Lloyd and his staff of cronies were outcoached THAT badly.

I like Lloyd - I think he was a good coach and representative of the program.  I liked that he made his players look up a word in the dictionary before they went in his office.

But it's undeniable that OSU passed us as a program in the second half of Lloyd's tenure, and worse, he groomed no quality successor.  Those are unfortunately part of his legacy, too.

you mean like this dandy from cher-troll-byl?

"We are not beating Notre Dame. The Harbaugh myth will continue to fade. He will be out-coached by Brian Kelly. Expect 35-21 at best. Ian Book is so much better than Sean Clifford. Harbaugh will won’t have the team ready to play. Just who he is."

We regularly placed pretty high prior to the last regular season game.  Unfortunately under JH's 4 previous seasons we are 1-7 combined in the last two games of the year.  We're 1-3 in bowl games and lost to OSU 4 times in a row.  We're a heck of a lot better than 5-7, but we've got to find a way to beat OSU before any UM fan will ever be anything but frustrated.

Seems like the Bo model of win the conference and go to the Rose Bowl died years ago.  If the new model is win the conference and get included in the Final Four, then I guess having ANY appearances in that party is relevant.

What ISN'T relevant is counting how many 14th places we have.

I wish Harbaugh got to exist in the era of Tressel's OSU and not the Urban Meyer death machine. The narratives are a lot different if OSU isn't a top 3 team year in and year out

Honestly, just change the result of the 2016 game against OSU.

If UM doesn't get screwed by corrupt officials they beat OSU, beat Wisconsin(?) in the Big 10 title game and go to the CFP in Harbaugh's second season. The entire narrative around Harbaugh's tenure at UM would be different with just that one game.

That was the game that "broke" me as a UM fan. I became convinced the universe doesn't want good things for UM fans.

So true. Just look at James Franklin. After UM beat PSU by 39 to set them at 2-2 to start 2016 I was sure he was done at Penn State. But a miracle vs. OSU followed by a ref-job in The Game and he's the B1G Champion and enjoying a wave of acceptance ever since.

I'm usually expert at putting things behind me, but if anything goes Michigan's way in that 2 OT game (like, say OSU gets called for more than 2 penalties for 6(!!) total yards in a game with two extra sessions!) the world is a different place.
