Michigan Oregon basketball game thread
I suspect some of us will need score updates while watching Georgia Alabama football?
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
Burnett got fouled and then stopped playing defense. I understand you want a call but you can't just stop playing.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:53 PM ^
And, that didn’t last — Oregon makes a basket to retake the lead and Michigan uses its timeout. And I’m not sure who I’m doing play-by-play for since I think the people on the thread are all watching this game at this point. :) 83-81 Oregon, 40 seconds left, Michigan ball. You get the feeling they need to find a way to win this on this next set of possessions.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
Without not one but 2 of their better players. We just suck and the poor play and mistakes make it worse. Another year missing the tournament in March. Decisions to make come April.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
You knew they’d lose at buzzer. Time to start a coaching search.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
Shit.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
And there is the end of the Juwan Howard era
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
Stunningly stupid. God damn. Get the fuck out of here Juwan, embarrassment of a program. Michigan should not be below the NCAA tournament bar ever but here we are.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
fuck
just win tonight's game
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
We suck. Game winning 3. We don't even call timeout. Just chuck it from half court. Amazing coaching
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
I think the graphic was wrong and we didn’t have a timeout. We called it on the previous possession.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
Correct — Michigan had no timeouts at the end of regulation, so they got the one freebie added for overtime, which they used with 45 seconds left to set up their last possession.
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:06 PM ^
Ok then the graphic was wrong. But why not stay more poised. They just panic constantly. They gave the game away
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:11 PM ^
There was 1.4 seconds on the clock. The fuck you want him to do with the ball with that amount of time? Go baseline to baseline in that time? Come on man. They played a hell of a game and got beat on a really long range three. Cut it out with the we suck stuff. It’s early and this team has show at least heart.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
Well, calling timeout would have been a technical foul, so that, at least, was a good decision.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:57 PM ^
I mean what play are you going to draw up in 1.3 seconds from 94 feet away. Dug damn near made it
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
Tough loss, missed free throws in regulation was huge
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:54 PM ^
Another close loss, pathetic. It's a trend under Howard at this point, not just luck. You need to move on because the program has fallen off a cliff.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
Just, no. A pull-up 35 footer? This team may be cursed.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
Cursed with 1 good coach in the last 30 years
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
(removed)
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
And, in the ultimate “you’ve got to be kidding me” ending, Oregon eschews not only its timeout but also any offense for the last 15 seconds of the game, then throws up a 32-footer for the win, which naturally is nothing but net. Ridiculous.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
Heartbreaker…smh
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
Heartbreak loss on that 30 ft 3 in OT.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
Big shot, Shelstad is a nice looking freshman. Damnit
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
So much bad in this game from a coaching standpoint. Thank God for Dug.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
Time to move on. It’s not working. This is Amaker shit
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
Terrible shot selection by Oregon but it went in
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
Not much you can do defensively on that shot but there were plenty of issues with the other 65 minutes of play.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
I think that’s part of the irritation. Dana Altman is a terrible coach and he’s 3-0 against Michigan. That was their game-winning offensive possession??
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:57 PM ^
Time to get ready for football
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
GO BLUE!
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
Damn, you just expect to have to guard a college guy 30 feet from the basket with 5 seconds left. I'd let him take that wannabe Steph shot every game. He hit it, though. smh
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
I'm done with this whole coaching staff. These players deserve better. Neg away, but we've all seen good coaching & this ain't it.
December 2nd, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
McDaniel had an amazing game. The rest of the team struggled.
Team has a long way to go to get an NCAA bid. Let's hope they can turn things around!
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:01 PM ^
Why would Dug not leave after this year? Probably to small for the NBA but he could transfer to a better team
How is this team going to be better next year?
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:04 PM ^
I would be surprised if McDaniel doesn't transfer if this season ends up the same as next season. Guy would be a stud for a contending team.
It's a shame man. Love me some Michigan basketball.
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:08 PM ^
If it was because we got a new coach, I'd pack dugs bags. Love him but this team is routinely going nowhere
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:07 PM ^
Well ... there's a portal next summer too. I mean ... I get the pessimism and disappointment, but ... who knows?
Disappointing, of course that we *already* need to start thinking about next year.
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:10 PM ^
Really frustrating loss because we could have salted it away in regulation if we hit our free throws.
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:11 PM ^
Dude knocked down a shot that was hard to defend- props for nailing it. Tough loss but wyd.
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:16 PM ^
I can’t remember watching a less athletic player than Will Tschetter. How anyone thought he was anything more than a MAC level player is inconceivable. On defense he might as well be wearing a jersey that says “attack here.” He can’t jump, he can’t defend, he can’t move his feet. If he has to play because of Tarris’s FT woes, at least try to do some offense/defense switching with him. I honestly have never seen a worse defender or rebounder.
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:18 PM ^
He did make a clutch 3
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:23 PM ^
Yet he’s shooting about 80% from three this year. He also brings an energy that’s lacking with other guys despite his lack of athleticism. Of all the reasons there are to be upset with the team, Cheddar is not near the top of the list.
December 2nd, 2023 at 6:22 PM ^
I thought this team was supposed to be different in close games this year? Same horse shit different horses.
December 2nd, 2023 at 7:01 PM ^
The turnaround in like 3 years is amazing. Coming out of COVID in March 2021, Juwan Howard had Michigan as a #1 seed in the tournament, made the Elite 8, and was recruiting like Duke and Kentucky. A lot of people wanted Harbaugh fired.
Now? Juwan is the one on the hot seat (2 straight missed tourneys is pretty hard to swallow unless you're Tommy Amaker) and Harbaugh is the one who's built a juggernaut (outside of 1 bad loss to TCU).
December 2nd, 2023 at 7:06 PM ^
It is time for a coaching change. It seems like this coaching staff chokes in any close games down the stretch. It happened way too much last year and again this year.
December 2nd, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
The basketball program is a mess
