Michigan Opens as 3 Point Favorite; Now 7

Submitted by alum96 on

Looks like the open line was 3  (column 1) and is up to 7ish (2nd column)

Cue the 'the point spread doesn't signify who is better and by how much but is set as a way to get bets on both teams'.

Since we are in playoffs watch (playoffs?!)

  • LSU opens 7.5 over Florida, down to 4.5
  • Alabama open 3 over A&M, up to 3.5
  • Stanford opens 4.5 over UCLA, up to 5
  • Iowa opens 3 over Northwestern, down to 2.5
  • Utah opens 7 over ASU, down to 6.5
  • OSU opens 21 (!!) over PSU, down to 17

So money coming in on UM and UF (and PSU) the most early.

Michigan needs this game bad. All the luck as far as injuries etc have been trending for Staee the last 5-6 years. I suspect Dantonio has been saving some things just for this game. HOWEVA, this staff will have the team prepared. Staee's D does not look like it did the last few years. Time to win this game and shut those bastards up.

We have had 6 years of crap football and now that our team is winning and winning with a great defense, I feel so guarded. Im having a hard time getting pumped up and feeling like I did 10-15 years ago. This game against MSU will hopefully jumpstart my emotions. I've been such a loyal fan but after we feel into the dregs of college football I just can't believe we are back. How is everyone else feeling? Anyone feeling like me. Guarded enthusiasm?

I've felt this confident about an MSU game was 2006, back when we had a lights-out D, were at home, and MSU's coach was smacking himself in the face and had Teddy Ruxpin as DC.

Michigan hasn't had a good team lose at home to State since 1990, when State basically cheated.  Nothing is guaranteed, but all signs point to a decisive win for U-M.

MSU +7 huge public overreaction on Michigan's recent performances. Yes we have 3 straight shutouts, 2 of them came vs true freshman QB's. Connor Cook and MSU are a different animal. Spatran defense is built to stop the run. I expect a low scoring grudge match. MSU has been better for several years, and certainly have our number. We will need to play better than any game we have played this year to win.

By "recent performances," do you mean every game this season?  At no point in this season has MSU looked like a top 10 team.  What's their best performance this season?  The 3-point home win over an Oregon team that is now 3-3?  The CMU game where they led 17-10 going into the fourth quarter?  Their one and only road game to date, a 31-24 win over Rutgers?

MSU has managed to drop from #2 to #7 in the AP poll without actually losing, which is pretty rare.  With each "off game" they play, it begins to sink in a little more that they just aren't that good.  And now they've got to play a top 15 team on the road.  That's why they're the underdog.

wow that 3 mustve been posted by 1-2 books only and shortly removed or adjusted, at least my guess.  bc the services i checked (and they release early) opened msu 6.5.  and even the biggest dogs try to avoid opening with numbers deviating that far, unless theyre looking to get hammered early.

i wouldnt play a side in this game but if forced to pick id lean towards msu getting that many points.  at this point rudock and the pass game just do not present enough of threat.  i still think m has a great chance to win the game, especially given DL play of late, but thats a big number in this rivalry game

Sooo msu now has plenty of reasons to build their "chip" for this week.
1) We are favored to win
2) GameDay in AA
3) Best defense in the country
4) we keep moving up they keep moving down even though they are 6-0 lol

They going to build so much hate for this weekend I hope our boys are ready to punch them in the mouth. Lets stay humble and play smart.

Since MSU joined the Big Ten, there has only been one coach to win the UM-MSU game in their first season.

That was Nick Saban in 1995 -- who beat another first-year coach, Lloyd Carr.  No Michigan coach has beaten MSU in their first season since MSU joined the Big 10.

Then again, none of those coaches were Jim Harbaugh.

Feels about right at 6.  MSU, for all their flaws, are still undefeated.  UM is probably 3 points better on a neutral field, so you add the 3 points for being at home and it shakes out.
