MBB snowflakes

I hope you don't mind me starting this, LSA... Sindarius Thornwell had one more assist and only two fewer field goals than Michigan's entire team. This strikes me as an undesirable balance. Are Walton and Irvin just not guys who can lead a team over a long stretch?

At least the football team is good.

I'm sure I'll get negged for this, but seriously, same old Michigan. A shitty defensive team that can't rebound against a good team to save its own life.

Zak Irvin was hot garbage tonight.  I saw Beilein chewing him out  one time during a time-out, but the way he was playing he should have not even made the trip South Carolina.

This is what happens when you don't score. They'll get better. It's still November people, college basketball doesn't even start to matter until February going into March. I think they'll be fine.

cold in Columbia. Hot shooting helps set the defense and obviously gives energy to play defense. The same proclamations of top ten capability are equivalent to horrible tonight. It's basically preseason bball. Let's wait until Feb or Mar to really grade this team. I think the lack of drive penetration and secondary break will hurt this team when it counts, but hot shooting can render that moot. Hope they gel and have a great season.

About as bad as it gets tonight. Had 33 points through first 30 minutes of play! When you live and die by the 3, this type of performance is always a possibility. The sky isn't falling, but the effort has to be better. I wasn't overly impressed by SC, but you could tell which team wanted it more.

No problem on starting the thread, Erik.

Actually, because basketball generally doesn't produce the same volume of "snowflake" type threads, they sit relatively unregulated and open to creation by whoever wants to do it. I can still fish out the ones that overlap too much, but the hoops world of MGoBlog is rather unregulated.

Same problems as last year only more so. No physical presence inside and no athletes. Irvin was a good athlete, but the injuries have taken it from him and he looks like an old man. The Big Ten is going to grind us up this year.

Somebody brought it up in the comments of the front page post, but it's not like basketball teams are immune to off nights. State needed a clock operator fail to beat Florida Gulf Coast. Indiana lost to Fort Wayne. It's only concerning when it becomes a trend.

maybe their minds were elsewhere, already thinking about Thanksgiving. But what was concerning was that there was no contingency plan for an off night behind the arc. Beilein's best strategy can't be, well, just keep shooting anyway.

Zak's hoop IQ seems very low and/or he's an extremely selfish player. After he jacked that 3 up at the end of the first half, JB got in his ass and he argued back the entire time. Then JB put him right back in the game after that bs display. WTF man? Why? I'll praise the day Zak is gone.

Weird scheduling is right. It's nice that U-M lightened up on the cupcakes this year, but it's rather annoying how MSU plays all these marquee opponents (even though they lose to them all) while we play total randoms like South Carolina.

It would be great if U-M could find something to anchor their nonconference schedule around. Notre Dame would be a natural. (They also have an annual event—their alternating series with IU and Purdue). As it currently stands, there's seldom anything to get excited about with our sked unless we draw a powerhouse in the ACC Challenge—and that only happens if you're coming off a big year.

I mean, 8 field goals in the first 30 minutes of play. That's atrocious. It's not an exaggeration to say that a high school team playing South Carolina could easily have had more field goals than that.

The Gamecocks were motivated because they thought they should have made the tourney last year over us. But still. 8 field goals in 30 minutes. That's like a middle school girls game.

Anyone watch Staee and IU recently? Some of you are gleefully showing us your, uh, wisdom. I'll worry later. You pick between the MSG tournament and today. Y'all really think we are going to go 40-0? Or probably you only watched today, and only Michigan. Your Bball IQ is, shall we say, short of the bucket. Happy Thanksgiving. Sharpen Up.

Mindlessly pointing to MSU and Indiana when analyzing our own issues is pretty simple simon stuff. As if Zak hasn't been a turnover/bad shot machine, our rebounding hasnt been garbo, and we havent been overly dependent on the three ball for a while now. No one is saying the season is doomed or fire JB, but these things are so. Obvious even.

When you think we have a chance at not a good year,  but a great year,  they go and

do this..Last night looked like another 19-13 or 20-12 team...SUCKS

Reminds me of GR3.  Disinterested most of the time, then for some unknown reason he blows up for a game or two, then goes back to sleep for long periods of time.  Tons of talent, lack if intensity,

I mean, making 5 more threes makes it a tie game and only bumps our shooting to around 30% from three which is below our average typically.
I think it's safe to say that a shooting performance like that in recent years would have us losing by a lot more than 15.
