Just to clarify, that is for athletes in general.  Not just football.  Women's field hockey can get girls admitted that wouldn't necessarily be accepted through general admissions.  Not trying to take anything away from any student-athletes, as they bring a lot to the culture of the university, and certainly can prove they belong in the classroom once they are on campus, but just adding information to the point above.

To the young kid. He is obviously bright. He is being recruited by ivy league schools. A redshirt is by no question in his future. Then possibly a starter on special teams. He could one day be in the second string lb rotation, coming in for injuries (its happens every year it seams) He is like getting a "free player" that doesn't go against the 85 player cap. Hey guys, check out the #74 kid on this team.

He's the far side defensive tackle at 3:21, and I mean I know he doesn't tackle the kid with the ball, but my guess would be that the quaterback was his read duty since the other team seems to be running an option sort. I mean the kid stays low, and is able to shoot through the line and shut down the qb.
Also check him out at 6:01, he is the far side defensive end and right here he just kicks the snot out of the guy blocking him, pushing him back and then sliding off the make the tackle for a loss as well. This kid shows some potential.
He also seems pretty good at the o-line too, as can be seen at 8:07, where he comes up and crushes a poor linebacker. This kid is my guess 6'2 230-240 but appears to be younger probably a sophomore or junior. He has some potential, I say go for him.

See the play early in his highlights. Blitzes from the outside and hits the ball carrier behind the LOS. Very Kovacsian. Needs to get his helmet into the ball, though.

Also a 1st team Lacross guy. I suppose if things don't go as planned on the football team, he could go out for Varsity Lacross now!

Blaze - lacrosse has an 'e' on the end of it.  You're right though.  He seems to be a pretty decent lacrosse player, although 1st-Team All-State in Michigan isn't exactly the same as being 1st-Team All-State in Maryland or New York.  Kinda the opposite of football in that regard.

He's wearing a lacrosse shirt in that headshot, so it may have been taken during the spring.  Typically guys who play football and lacrosse bulk up in the fall and trim down a bit in the spring.  Or maybe he's just lanky.

turn into one of those guys that the scouts overlooked. Definitely an interesting pick from Hoke and Company.

if this kid does exceptionally well once he starts playing , is it possible for him to earn a schollie down the road?

...A2.com article about Lawson. Deep Michigan ties for the young man.

His parents are Michigan graduates and his brother is currently attending the university's law school. His great grandfather was an employee of the athletic department and his great grandmother a Michigan graduate. A great uncle, Herb Frederick, has been a stadium volunteer for 68 years.

It also says he's wanted to be a Michigan football player ever since attending the 2004 U-M/MSU thriller. Nice that he'll be able to achieve his goal.

Guys I played on Mark's team this year and let me tell you, he is the hardest working most determined player I have ever had the honor to play on a field with, and he will find a way to get the job done.
