LSU might be the toughest opponent in the East

Submitted by IAMNOTMAIZEN on March 21st, 2021 at 1:25 AM

I know it's great Texas lost but I think the team we're going up against next might be our toughest opponent in the region. LSU is a team on an upward swing with very high potential. Trendon Watford and Cameron Thomas could be lottery picks given a good performance in the tournament, Smart is probably an NBA player. They've played their best game of the year every game since the beginning of March. Ranked 9 in Barthag during March whereas Michigan is ranked 36.

Their guards are really rounding into form and their defense is getting better and better. I have them picked over us in my bracket but I hope I'm wrong.

Oh Maizen, back to your usual tricks of barely watching sports but going full-bore complaining about UM because being reactionary is too easy.

Anyway, LSU I'd a fine team.  But considering I was told UConn and Texas were also sleeping giants about to destroy UM, I'm going to hold my breath about a worst version of Iowa being a juggernaut.

Yeah, I work with some UConn grads/fans and they all seemed perplexed why people though the Huskies were some terrifying team.  They all said they were probably underseeded by a line but acknowledged it was a flawed team that absolutely could lose to someone who played solid defense.

Amazing what money can buy you

I have faith in Howard that he can mop the floor with Wade based on coaching acumen, but I agree it's going to be a tough game.

I think the TSU game was just what the doctor ordered for Michigan. It was good work, almost a glorified practice, I think all the guys - save Chaundee, maybe - had something positive happen to hang their hats on. I think the team has got to a new normal, have moved on without their captain playing, and will be ready to give LSU more than they bargained for.

This is ridiculous, you sound like a douche troll OP.

LSU might be talented but what I saw was an inconsistent team that jacks up all kinds of funky shots and plays out of control a lot, teams like that don't do well against us.

LSU would have to shoot the lights out to win, that's their only chance.

LSU could win but don’t use “the way they are playing lately” as your reason.  They hit 3 shots in the first ten minutes against St. Bonaventure (and that is not an exaggeration, that is literally true).  My nine year old son said “this is the worst basketball game I’ve ever seen.”  They picked things up in the 2nd half but their first half was pretty much unwatchable.  They have some talent but were super sloppy and looked like a team Franz Wagner would carve up.

ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS IN MARCH GETTING BETTER EVERY GAME, WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!?

The first half of their first round game was fucking ugly. Any team that struggles to put up 20 points in a half can gladly be in our region.

St. Bonnie got 1 single point from their bench. LSU got 5. If they think they can ride 5 starters through the March tournament, then I really like our chances. LSU also out rebounded St. Bonnie 49-30.

I’ll stop here, but OP sounds like a moron; but also, he took LSU to beat us. So he probably is one.

I haven't seen LSU play at all this season.  I read comments and they are talented but very thin.  And they jack up crazy shots and play stupid.  I will say that if they are anything like the stupid that is (was) Texas then I think Michigan wins pretty easily.  That Texas game (their last one) was something to behold.  Schoolground basketball at its finest.  Just throw it around quickly with reckless abandon then throw one up there and let someone do their THANG.  Pay no attention to the 20+ turnovers.  Ain't nuthin.

OK.... and? I think most people thought LSU was going to be tough out

and FSU after that...and Bama after that...

doesn't change the fact Michigan has to play them next...Every match up from here on out is going to be a tough out, but that counts both ways

Bring your A game and see what happens.

LSU is a fast and athletic team, no doubt. The can shoot, and have the ability to score in bunches... They're also an 8 seed with <20 wins, have 2 Q1 wins on the season, and have the worst rated advanced stats defense in the tournament. With a sound game plan and execution, they are very beatable.

They are capable of beating us if things go their way, but we've beaten statistically better teams literally 10 times this season. Michigan is favored for a reason in this matchup. LSU is not some unbeatable juggernaut.

The things that piss me off the most about this game are that Will Wade somehow still has a job and that every single player in the their starting lineup was paid and everyone knows it but LSU doesn’t care enough to fire him and the NCAA is too incompetent to deliver punishment in a timely manner. The likelihood of LSU’s tourney wins being vacated are extremely high and of course we have to deal with the cheaters. Hopefully we can pull out a win though and it won’t matter

round two of the tournament is the best betting opportunity that ever was, every year.

here’s what happens:

  • in round one, half a dozen inconsistent-but-talented, semi-coached teams play over their heads and suddenly look like they’ve got it all figured out,
  • dumbasses start saying look out for team x, and money moves onto them,
  • then those same teams get their doors blown off by well-coached teams that have been doing it all year.

lsu, meet juwan howard, and we’ll see you next year.

I guess we should just forfeit at this point... hell why don’t you just give LSU a banner.

Other 1 seeds have to play quality opponents too including Loyola and Wisconsin too. You have to beat good team at this point (unless your zaga and your bracket is a joke).

Unless I'm mistaken, there are only 2 teams still in the field with a worse adjD via kenpom than LSU (oral roberts is one lol.)

Before the games started I think there were only  4 or 5 teams with a worse adjD. That's...not good.

M may lose; LSU does have talent and clearly M is not *as* good right now as they have been/could be. But let's not pretend if they lose its because LSU is the "best team in the region."

LSU will whoop us. Their guards will destroy us. We just have no athleticism advantage at really any position.
