Happy for him! He earned every penny. Bet on himself with coming back and it paid off (literally).

Now as long as he's found himself a great financial advisor, he's set his family and himself up for life.

This is really dangerous advice.  The average equity investor gets about 40% of what the market gives.  It's not about investment picking, it's about discipline, strategy, and behavior.  Here is a great quote from a great article (a few years old but just as relevant today):

"No matter what the state of the mutual fund industry, boom or bust," Dalbar advises, "investment results are more dependent on investor behavior than on fund performance. Mutual fund investors who hold on to their investments have been more successful than those who try to time the market."

"Investors so often cost themselves money because the behaviors elicited by short-term focus are almost always irrational," the Dalbar study explains. "While many investors set a course of action that is based on a well-planned rationale and considers the full time horizon, those plans can take a back seat when fear or exuberance sets in."

I'm pretty sure I remember this correctly and that it is the root of Buffett's comments: Many years ago the Chicago Tribune (then a conservative paper) asked a few experts to pick several stocks that would be top performers in the next year. They also actually had some monkeys throw darts at a board with stock symbols on it. And the monkeys did win.

His total income under the contract, spread out evenly over those four years, is $283k and change per week.

That is a lot of money.

All that's left is to marry a super model and win 7 Super Bowls.

I'm looking forward to the impact this young man will have on the Lions, as well on opposing QBs.

I was listening to espn radio this morning and Orlovsky (who i enjoy listening to) was talking about the 6 second year QB's and who he thought was 1 through 6 (most of it was focused on Fields) and digressed into basically saying Green Bay is still the top in the league but Minnesota and Detroit are closer to GB than most think - and that Chicago is a pretty big gap lower and obvious last in the division this year.  He was extremely low on Chicago.

Anyway, just to throw it out there because i definitely think Detroit is a .500 team this year and with a few bounces their way, a win or 2 better (although a few more bounces not their way, also 1 or 2 games worse!) but in a nutshell, they are closer to the playoffs than many think.

With that said, i also told everyone including my cat that the Detroit Tigers were a .500 team this year, and have completely fell on my face in regards to that opinion, so in a nutshell, just ignore this post.

love your enthusiasm and your candor.  i noted that the tigers are on a 2-14 stretch right now, tearing it up!   they have had some bizarre box scores, too.  4 errors in a game, a bunch of 8th and 9th inning collapses, a host of one-run losses, one game where they were 1-15 with RISP, and the list goes on.  too bad, would've been nice to root for them.

In my mind the Lions are still the Lions until proven otherwise, but they definitely improved their roster with the draft (especially if they land a hit on Williams) and there is absolutely something to be said for a team that goes 3-14 and still fights and competes in every game. Certainly a testament to the kind of culture that Campbell is trying to build, so his team seems to want to play for him. I'd certainly take that over a more talented team that phones it in.

The good news for them too is that there is a much better looking QB draft class coming through next year. So even if the Lions finish the season hovering around .500 they could still look at taking a really good QB in the first round. If the Lions make solid progress this season, make it to something like 7-10 or 8-9, then 2023 could be where I'd expect reasonable conversations about contending for the postseason.

Well, look at it this way. If that does come to pass, at least you can say it runs in the division.

Green Bay just lured Rodgers back. They rewarded him by letting Davante Adams walk in FA. You know, the one truly reliable pass catcher that Rodgers had. Did they rectify it by getting aggressive in the draft and trading up to get someone like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave or Jameson Williams? Nope, they sat around twiddling their thumbs while every first round caliber receiver got taken off the board before they could pick.

Now they're pinning their hopes on some kid from Western Michigan panning out to being Rodgers new top target. Yeah, good luck with that.

Rodgers can make average receivers look really good.  There is plenty of WR talent that Green Bay can get to help them win without breaking the bank.  If Rodgers has time to throw he will tear it up regardless of who he’s passing to.

Rodgers has been selfish and unwilling to budge on restructuring his deal so that GB could retain players.

Im not an NFL GM but I don’t think any positions other than DL, OL, or QB should be taken in the first 10 picks…ever.  WR is a position where elite talent is easy to find.

Yikes, my bad. You're right. I could've sworn they took Skyy Moore but I obviously remembered wrong. Either way, they took Christian Watson from North Dakota State with their second round pick. I'd like to think my overall point is still largely intact.

You're asking a kid from North Dakota State to come in and be the guy. Maybe he turns into that, but its a lot to ask of a rookie from the FCS level.

That's a great idea but it is very hard for an ultra-competitive young man with elite athleticism and a huge following of loyal supporters to give up playing a sport he loves and not accept the challenge of creating a Hall of Fame NFL career. (Not to mention turning down tens of million dollars to do what he loves!)

Given that his dad has his NFL career cut short before it even began, it must be awesome for him to watch Aiden succeed like this.

Great for Aidan! Wow, this surprising from the cheap Ford family. Usually their penny pitching goes on into summer camp and the poor player has to sit out until a contract is finally agreed on.

Sounds like you chose the wrong major! 😊

I saw a story the other day where college students were asked how much they think they will make when the graduate from college. The average expected salary upon graduation was something like $105,000. The actual average salary of a college graduate is around $55,000.

There are going to be a lot of disappointed folks in the next couple of years...
