LaDarius Henderson interviewed on Sirius XM ESPNU radio this morning

Submitted by BlueDad2022 on November 1st, 2023 at 8:48 AM

ESPNU radio has mostly been deep in the garbage pit regarding Michigan for the past week (after pretty much ignoring for the first 8 weeks).   I was a little surprised to hear he was going to be interviewed given all the bad press.   He was delightful.   Spoke about how great Sherrone Moore is and how much he would have learned if he’d spent four years at Michigan, when inevitably asked about the, you know, reiterated the laser focus and how leadership is coming within the team (mentioned Sainristil), said JJ is one of his favorite people, and spoke about how the team believes in Harbaugh’s integrity.

A great interview amidst all the crap.   If you have XM you can go on the app, rewind to about 8am and listen.   It’s worth it!

I don't know what the future looks like, but by god we better throw gobs of money at Sherrone Moore, Jesse Minter, Ben Herbert and Steve Clinkscale to keep them here at all costs.

I mean, throw money at Mike Hart, Grant Newsome, Jay Harbaugh, and Denard too, but I figure those guys are a little more inclined to stay no matter what lol

You raise a good point.. which is.. head coaching experience elsewhere.

Imo thinking on this is “split”…. It’s great to promote from within, and - being a head coach adds responsibilities that a Coordinator doesn’t necessarily need to deal with.  It seems to be close to a coin toss.

The advantage of promoting from within, IMO, is the consistency of the program and culture - which seems to be at an incredibly high level.  This team is tight.. together.. aligned - the Espirit de Corps.  And, I hope that this contracting process makes clear the funding set aside for the Coordinators and staff.

My wish is for everyone to be compensated “well and fairly”.  Honestly, my preference is that Harbaugh and staff are not the highest paid in college football.  My view is.. by role, their base salary is in the top five nationally (and second or third is fine with me).  And, their bonus / variable comp can make them the highest paid in their role - based on performance / achievement.  My rationale is - the highest paid in a given position brings them being a “target” into a potential discussion - as well as this “overpaid”, etc…which we’re hearing with Dabo these days.

Regardless, Go Blue!

What all this 'heir apparent' talk fails to entertain is that the guy following a legend never does good.  David Shaw was probably the longest lasting that I've ever seen - and can you lump Stanford Jim Harbaugh (4 years) in with life-long lifers like Bo, Joe, Woody, and Bear?  We're all hoping (edit: except for Don) Harbaugh stays at Michigan until retirement, so another 10-15 years at least.  That will give him 25-30 years at Michigan, and surely he'll have more teams like the last three he's had.  In that scenario, the guy that replaces him - statistically - is going to fail.  That's happened everywhere else.

I hope it's not the case this time around...

That is great to hear. I am glad there is some positive perspective is being put out there. What Harbaugh has achieved on the field and the educational success of these kids, it should be revered. Alas, not many focus on that as it won't get enough clicks.

XM college sports station has been trashing Michigan for the past 2 weeks. Last evening on my drive to work they were saying how the NCAA has to give Michigan the death penalty, after Stallons was on the EMU sideline. They were making shift up about how Satllons had microphones in his sunglasses. I don't know who these two were, probably OSU fan boys.

I listen to this channel pretty much all day while at work and also on my commute. 1.5 hours each way.

First this L. Henderson interview was awesome. Great young man.

But ya Uminks, the Michigan trashing has been unbearable the past 2 weeks. I think we all expected there to be a lot of backlash, but the talking heads seriously are acting like this is the worst thing to happen in NCAA history.

Dusty and Danny have been tolerable for the most part. Danny likes to stir the pot per usual.

Chris Childers and Rick Neuheisel have been unbearable. Usually love their show, but they bash Harbaugh every chance they get.

Kris Budden and EJ Manuel have been awful.

The Buckeyes on the channel obviously feel the same. I really hope UM doesnt get severe violations. Their heads will explode.

Also, our old buddy Finebaum is now off the Harbaugh bandwagon. He is back to bashing him along with Heather Dinich who just might be the worst of the bunch.

Really have to find a new channel to listen to. Lol.

Used to love Childers/Neuheisel and now I hate those fuckers.  Neuheisel always seemed like a reasonable guy, and he is straight off the rails on this.  We are so guilty in his eyes, it is ridiculous.  Howard Stern fills my morning listening in that slot anyway.

Jacob Hester at 3pm EST has been a big proponent of Michigan this year and is pretty levelheaded about this.

I like JHester. Too bad he is usually paired up with Bobby Carpenter. Although, he isnt as bad as some of the others.

But ya, Neuheisel has really gone off the rails. I know he has some bad history with Harbaugh, but he has taken it way too far. He will be disappointed if UM doesnt get the death penalty and that is not an exaggeration.

Goggles, I am in 100% agreement.  I made a post about this a few days ago.  They will not quit.  There is no benefit of the doubt when it comes to Michigan.  And the stupid songs they play to set their narratives along with both of them singing out of tune to the songs and making up ridiculous lyrics has been annoying.  And that shit goes on for many minutes.  Not sure how anyone, OSU or MSU fans included, are entertained by that crap.  I used to like the show but it has officially jumped the shark.

Neuheisel takes a holier than thou attitude and believes Michigan has committed egregious penalties that have threatened the sanctity of the game.  Complete hypocrite.  The dude had to forfeit five games while the coach at Colorado (he sidestepped any penalties) and was under NCAA investigation for infractions at Washington (he later won a lawsuit against UW).  So the guy has had his share of NCAA run-ins and was able to side step landmines in the process.  Maybe he should sit the Michigan thing out.

100% agree that Neuheisel and Childers has been bad. They seem to be the least informed but have the strongest opinions, and they talk about it the longest. I don't think I can go back to that show even when this passes - no credibility and neither guy is particularly entertaining. Dusty and Danny is fine - you know what you get with them (Danny pretty open about his love of trolling). Neuheisel has commented on how he and Harbaugh didn't get along when they coached in the PAC-12, so he's never shy to heap it on. Childers is just a hot-take guy that doesn't know the game very well. He loves topics like this, so he can just do his hot takes all day.

I never listen to Budden and Manuel, so I couldn't speak on that one.

Righteous outrage gets clicks and listeners and ad revenue.

Dinich really is the queen of righteous outrage and trying to be provocative and contrarian on every topic.

She was "scarred" by the Urban Meyer-Cayman Nebraska video, whatever that means.

She left UGA out of her CFP prediction after Bowers was injured, instead including UW, FSU, Michigan, and Oklahoma (that aged well). Even Finebaum called her out as a hater after this.

Now she has osu, FSU, UGA, and UW, with Michigan 5th, despite UW looking like dog poop the last 2 weeks.

For everyone's health and sanity, I simply don't understand why anyone would listen to national shows or 97.1, etc. The perfect definition of "seldom right but never in doubt", slamming Michigan drives views/clicks/call-ins etc. Waste of time, waste of stress.

The formula is easy:

Michigan Insider each morning on WTKA, and Michigan centric podcasts like this fine site's PRN, fin. Rinse/repeat.

Cover 3 podcast has been pretty sensible overall about it. Danny Kanell is also on that show, so he's probably the worst. When they talk about he story, they mostly mention any relevant updates and move on. They move on to actual games pretty quickly. Also, Bud Elliot talks a lot about every school that's serious about football stealing signs and using whatever they can do. Mostly it's just jokes about how poorly executed (stupid) the whole operation was. I would recommend that show as a national option.

A question for those who wish to reply.

Is there any position coach, coordinator, staff member that you would “swap out” for someone else?  If so, who?

My view is.. this staff is fantastic… I wouldn’t change a thing.  However, in the off season - consider “cross training” position coaches to increase their breadth of experience.

The only real surprise to me during Harbaugh's tenure is how difficult it was to put together a complete staff. It is obvious people will be leaving to continue building their careers, I hope it is to the point where changes can be made without being disrupting.

I think almost every top college team struggles with this.  One thing I did notice- we (and other teams) seem to lose more staff in the “almost” years - 2015, 2016, 2018- because you had a good year, your assistants are on everyone’s radar, and let’s be honest, you’re not really playing for anything if you’re not in the playoffs.  Well, not playing for anything important enough to ignore and not look at new job opportunities.  If you have coaches prepping for the playoffs, they are less available when the market is hottest.

We need an interview from Olu and Nugent as well. Let that be the recruiting pitch to all starting Power-5 OL who are NFL type players who need a year or two in a great system. We may not attract portal options at the flashy positions, but we will be the spot for the top tier OL portal players in the country.

What is most unique to me about the transfer portal and how vast it is, this staff never seems to miss with it. They find talented high character guys they bring into their great team environment and they just patch holes and roll on. It amazes me how good this staff is at doing that. They must be vetting these kids and to do that you  have to have a wide net of connections. So great to see!

It’s absurd that the players have to defend themselves from all the shit being slung by hacks like Thamel and Mandel.  And of course all the “anonymous” coaches who are too chicken shit to put their names behind their statements.

But this team has steel in their spines.  This is only gonna strengthen their resolve and they’re gonna be well prepared to dominate down the home stretch and compete for a national championship.

Dusty and Danny is a good show, even though Danny Kanell is not a big fan of Michigan.  I give him a pass because a lot of people are not.  Comes with the territory.  But at least their coverage of the allegations has been fair and hasn't jumped the shark like the Childers/Neuheisel Full Ride show.

Jenkins was fantastic. If you have the audacy ap it would be worth your time to go back and listen to him talk (It was yesterday morning). He's such a fun and bright guy to listen to. He could have a future in broadcasting (after his NFL career that is.) I thoroughly enjoyed the interview and he too could not say enough good things about the program.
