Juwan Howard interview with the Sklar brothers: Howard mentions Franz Wagner by name.

Submitted by Bambi on July 2nd, 2019 at 9:10 PM

UMHoops just published an article recapping an interview Juwan Howard did with the Sklar brothers (link). The interview covers a few topics but most notably Juwam Howard discusses the Franz Wagner recruitment and mentions Franz by name.

Coaches aren't allowed to discuss recruits by name so on the surface this seems to be a minor recruiting violation. This wouldn't be shocking considering Juwan just got back to the college game and is new to recruiting and he even admits he may have committed a violation.

This also could signify something more though. Brendan Quinn has tweeted that he doesn't think Michigan has any signed paperwork from Wagner that would allow him to be discussed openly, but it is possible that Quinn is wrong and the above from Howard is a cover for that. Even if they do have paperwork from Wagner, it could just be Wagner signifying he wants to go to UM if he goes to college, not that he's decided yet. Regardless this is an interesting update with some info nonetheless.

Remember when Lavert Hill was trotted out on the ice at Penn State during a hockey game and named on the Jumbotron as a recruit?  If I recall correctly, it only became a violation once he actually didn't end up attending PSU.  Maybe they got massively sanctioned for it, but I have not heard a single thing about it since.

Hopefully Franz has signed his LOI and it’s not a violation, but can we maybe just delete this thread and wonder about it to ourselves?

I think Sam said that Franz signed a financial aid agreement, which I'm pretty sure would allow Howard to talk about him. Unlike an LOI, though, you can back out of a financial aid agreement.

Howard mentioned "France" by name and how Michigan once signed Olivier Saint-Jean from there. He's thinking of recruiting more players from the land of croissants.

Your recap is wrong.  The article says Juwan never uttered his name when he responded.  It only says he discussed Franz.    Maybe he was asked about Franz and answered without saying his name.  Would that be a violation?  I was not able to find the interview audio online, so I don’t know what was said in the interview, only what the umhoops.com wrote in their article about that interview.

It's only a violation if the prospect doesn't end up at U of M. Penn State used to name their commits amd once got burned by a decommitment
