When you're oder, you realize that girl was never worth it.  In the moment, you think she was the one and she threw away the perfect thing, how could she do that, etc.  And it's ok to feel that way and all the drama.  But come down a few days later and start to understand that she did you both a favor by ceasing this thing that wasn't going to work anyway.  She thought she could do better.  Nothing wrong with that.  Doesn't mean she's right, but she can have at it.  The guy is immatrial, any dude will get with a hot chick if given the opportunity.  Let go of him as a friend, but don't waste energy on hating him.

Doesn't negate the racist comments though.

I was with you until the "any dude will get with a hot chick if given the opportunity".  Change "any dude" to "lots of dudes" and this seems spot on ("chick" notwithstanding!).

I'm not one of those dudes - Golden Rule and all that.  And lots of my friends are the same way.

And lots of our other friends laughed at us.  Mercilessly.

The whole situation is sad and there is plenty of blame to go around.

  • Letting emotions get the best of you.
  • Notion of commitment in a relationship. It is clear Reschke's heart was broken.
  • Not only that, trust with teammates was broken. You don't do that to a teammate (sleep with a girlfriend.)
  • No call for racist slurs, ever, under any circumstance. I wouldn't be surprised that Reschke mouthed off in pain with what he thought was the most painful, cutting comment he could make. Shouldn't do that. He learned the hard way.

Beyond this particular situation, there is a lot of hidden racism in our culture. It is easy to condemn racism from a distance when it doesn't personally involve you. While I hate horror movies, I am considering to go see new movie release "Get Out" for that very reason.

Hope he means this apology. We all say and do stupid shit. Especially when we are young. We dont always really mean it. I Hate for his life to be defined by a slur. Everyone deserves a second chance. Godspeed young man.

This is actually a pretty shitty way for a college career to end. I don't like the racist shit he said, but I hope that it's not reflective of who he is and he can move past this and it won't affect the rest of his life. Even if he's not a racist, this will follow him and that sucks for him. If he is a racist, then fuck him because this will follow him and then he deserves it. Bottom line, don't be racist. Regardless, it's beyond the scope of sports and therefore I hope he becomes a productive member of society.

Is that while contrite about the situation, Reschke reached out to former MSU LB Darien Harris (mentored him at State during the playoff season.) Harris respected the gesture but also told Reschke he had nothing to say to him in return. That type of exchange and the lens through which he is viewed by his own teammates, and now he has to join a whole new program and a new locker room with this stain on him. What he did was inexcusable but it also is will make for a difficult upward climb as he joins a new school.
