John U. Bacon: The Leaking comes from Jim Stapleton
October 25th, 2023 at 11:38 AM ^
Also it happened just about two decades ago. Ron English was not a candidate for the job Harbaugh took.
October 25th, 2023 at 12:15 PM ^
He wasn't even really a candidate for the job Rodriguez took.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
I do not expect a perfect world however Logic, Reason, Accountability and THE TRUTH seem fair expectations.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
That would be my 1st question from Warde when the NCAA visits.
Who is leaking information in your office on this investigation?
October 25th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
Exactly; if I recall from cheeseburger-gate, UM and Harbaugh were prohibited from commenting - the NCAA was free to comment, or at least they did. Now they have a new leak - slow drip - every day about this code breaking. What's going at the NCAA? Do they think their job is to produce negative PR for their member schools?
October 25th, 2023 at 12:45 PM ^
Do they think their job is to produce negative PR for one member school?
FIFY
October 25th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
And doesn't that give Michigan ammo for some future counter-lawsuit?
This guy should be recused from anything having to do with Michigan. No, more than that, his unprofessional behavior disqualifies him from ever serving on any NCAA committee.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:46 AM ^
Michigan should request Jim Stapleton’s computer.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:19 AM ^
It’s truly astonishing how folks hold grudges over the most petty things. This Stapleton dude reeks of insecurity and lack of general fulfillment.
Believe me, I recognize I’m the worst, and I couldn’t look myself in the mirror to deliberatively destroy my alma mater due to resentment over Ron fucking English. Thanks for putting Johnny Sears in man coverage asshole.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:25 AM ^
+1 for agreeing with us that you're the worst
October 25th, 2023 at 11:28 AM ^
Yeah, well, your answer to everything is: get divorced
October 25th, 2023 at 11:35 AM ^
Ok well that was the best decision for me and my marriage.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
This guy is truly a piece of work.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
Will this thread be allowed to stay now that Bacon is saying it?? Hmm.
Also, mega WTF.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
I've ready about 13,000 comments here over the past 3 days that said this was OSU, or MSU, or Rutgers, or Tennessee, or Georgia, or Vegas.
Back to the drawing board.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
You continued after knowing that no one gives a flying F what you think? That says more about you...more buckeye logic.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:28 AM ^
This is about the leaks. The source of the “complaint” is almost certainly Ohio State.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
Certainly could be, but my money is on someone getting involved in Vegas. College football in general, every major decision is driven by money. My guess (which is what anyone here or anywhere has at this point) is Vegas tipped the NCAA off as they have people crunching numbers constantly that something was strange. NCAA started reaching out to schools, now most of the B1G and some others are submitting info.
I can be completely wrong, but at this point nobody knows what is right. It's speculation at the very best. Which leaves my logical reasoning to take me to money being the motivator.
Vegas is going to drive a lot now that gambling is pretty much legal everywhere.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:52 AM ^
I asked this question elsewhere today and I'm going to ask it again here.
If you're some type of Vegas Secret Squirrel and you get wind of the sign information, are you going to squander that competitive advantage? If you do, why on earth would you share it with the NCAA? I don't get it.
October 25th, 2023 at 12:04 PM ^
This is a nutso theory.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:35 AM ^
He is the NCAA leak.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:50 AM ^
Ok, this makes sense now. I was wondering how on earth he could have known about the "scheme" in order to leak this to... I don't know, anyone. Casting him as the NCAA leak connects a lot of loose threads for me.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^
Trolling attempt or not -- to clarify JUB is saying this guy is the source of the leaks to reporters, not the instigator of the investigation itself.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:43 AM ^
Not trolling, and to be fair I didn't make that distinction. So that's my bad. So this guy works for the NCAA and is the one purportedly leaking the information? Isn't that grounds for action against him if true?
October 25th, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
So a guy who will not be named who hates the Michigan coach is appointed to the NCAA Infractions Committee.
Sounds like Putin’s Russia.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:49 AM ^
It sounds like a Yakov Smirinov joke. "In Soviet Russia...."
October 25th, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
I’m in no way condoning violence on this man but could someone at least tee pee his house on Halloween?
October 25th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
Or at least the flaming bag of dogshit prank.
October 25th, 2023 at 12:57 PM ^
Jim Stapleton definitely sounds like a guy who would call the shit poop.
October 25th, 2023 at 1:01 PM ^
He'd say it was harbaugh poop and he saw him put it there.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
I'm interested in why JUB felt it necessary to divulge this information.
Puts on tin foil hat
(Insert improbable rumor that tarnishes Stapleton's reputation here)
October 25th, 2023 at 11:42 AM ^
It damages the ncaa's case & credibility somewhat.
However, Bacon better darn well have some evidence that Stapleton did it... otherwise expect a lawsuit.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:56 AM ^
JUB is smart enough to not drop something like this without having solid confirmation
October 25th, 2023 at 12:09 PM ^
As the old saying goes, anybody with $100 an directions to the courthouse can file a lawsuit. But, no, he won't sue. As a public figure, he'd have to prove Bacon knew it was false or had reckless disregard for the truth and acted with malice.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
Poor Seth
October 25th, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
Yeah, I was looking for your thread from the other day and couldn't find it, was going to link in the OP.
Then I went to the Sticky thread and saw it had been nuked along with others, but only after I started the board thread. Sorry, Seth/Moms if this is off-base.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:35 AM ^
I do regret the tone I used in the title of that original post. But the fact that it's now being openly discussed on the radio changes things. I think Seth didn't want the original work coming from mgoblog and I completely respect that.
October 25th, 2023 at 1:17 PM ^
A quick Google search indicates that the story about JUB naming Stapleton has been picked up by many media outlets. The interwebz are a remarkably efficient information distribution method! It would be good if the story evolves in the next couple days to why is an obviously biased individual sitting on the infractions committee.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:47 AM ^
Do you have a Twitter handle or any other sites you post your info on?
October 25th, 2023 at 1:31 PM ^
By no means should I be viewed as an insider with access to a plethora of coveted information. I happen to have a (very unimportant) job that coincidentally brings me into close proximity with many well connected people in Ann Arbor. I do hear a bit of interesting gossip from time to time that I would never dream of sharing here because I know there's a high likelihood that most of it is BS. I actually assumed that this story was mostly BS until the guy who shared it with me sent me some articles that backed up what he'd said, and I shared this with some friends. One also did some digging and found more info and the next thing you know I had a story to share that anyone could reasonably conclude was legitimate. Frankly this could have happened to anyone.
But if you want to follow this specific topic I'd recommend John U Bacon. He has known of Stapleton for many years and tried to tweet out my original post and now he's bringing it up on the radio so his interest is definitely piqued.

History is littered with weak men who have done from the absurd and ridiculous to horrific and unforgivable acts, explained from a simple Freudian analysis…
small dong and or sexual dysfunction.

One contemporary example is Vladimir Vladimirovich, Mr. Putin.
Oh, and #VPDFO.

If there is someone I trust here, it's JUB.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:25 AM ^
Also he was a big Brady Hoke fan apparently: https://www.deadlinedetroit.com/articles/10453/terry_foster_to_brady_hoke_defender_jim_stapleton_change_is_needed

He Who Shall Not Be Named
October 25th, 2023 at 11:26 AM ^
At some point, you have to wonder just how much hatred someone carries that they are willing to blindly and actively sabotage their own school’s program and the kids who play for it just so they can “get back” at a man who they feel did them wrong, or one of their good friends wrong.
Like, if you hate Harbaugh that’s fine. He is not everyone’s cup of tea. He is a weird, weird guy. But the fact that (if he is the source of all this) Stapleton is willing to nuke his alma mater into the ground just for personal satisfaction and getting revenge for your buddy who didn’t turn out to be that good of a head coach anyway…..I don’t know, it must not be healthy to carry THAT MUCH hatred inside you.
In any case, I don't see how him being involved with the Infractions Committee isn't a MASSIVE conflict of interest in this situation, and if I'm the Michigan brass, there's no way in hell I leave this meeting with the NCAA without discussing that at the table. If all of this information about him as true, there is no way on this planet he can act as an impartial judge. In fact he made up his mind on what he would do the minute Harbaugh was hired. It doesn't matter what Michigan would have to say or counter-evidence. Stapleton is already voting guilty.
I'm all for getting to the bottom of what happened, but if you want to be fair about this, how in the hell can you not require Stapleton to recuse himself from any future proceedings involving this case?
October 25th, 2023 at 11:46 AM ^
Its so weird. Its a classic example of someone high up on the social ladder that has to find something to keep busy. Blowing up your alma mater is an interesting choice, but some people are just assholes. You also can't separate "alma mater" from the kids that are on the team. I think people do and say things with a degree of separation in their minds, but forget that college kids are working their asses off and are ultimately the ones that get tied up and hurt in all of this. None of us will really give a shit in 10 years regardless of the outcome, but the players that may end up getting screwed sure will. From what I gather, Mr. Stapleton gives no shits about the players though.
October 25th, 2023 at 12:19 PM ^
Beyond that, I would say it taints all of the current investigations against JH and Michigan. If they can try to bury Michigan for what a staffer did, well then Michigan can try to bury the NCAA for what their own committee member is doing.
Warde should (but probably won't) tell them that if they so much as look in JH's direction, then there will be the biggest lawsuit that the NCAA has ever seen. And they always lose in court.
October 25th, 2023 at 12:59 PM ^
I think it's safe to assume he has rationalized this in a way that he feels he is in the right and is doing what is best for the Michigan AD.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
might be worth checking to see if there is any money trail from Stalions to Stapleton??
