John Beilein Posbang

Submitted by Toad on

Name one other coach in the country who could start two 3-star freshman, a 2-star freshman, and an unranked junior and beat a decent Big Ten team by 14 points.  What an outstanding coach.

These are the type of games I wish Beilein would burn on DVD, go to an in home visit, and just tell the 5 star recruit  "Let's watch this together, shall we?  I won't talk... just watch."

Nebraska also lost to incarnate word earlier in the season; we didn't exactly best Kentucky at rupp. I mean an equally valid question is: How many coaches would lose to NJIT and EMU with two former top 30 recruits (including one five star), another top 50 recruit, and a fringe lottery pick in next years draft.

Stating a different perspective doesn't make me a troll. I am a Beilein fan and think he's a top ten coach. I'm just baffled how a fan base that was expecting so much more is making posbang threads for beating Nebraska. If he is the great coach we know him to be, shouldn't we hold him to a higher standard (and to be clear, he has failed this season. That's not up for debate)

There have been plenty of other upsets too (penn state, Charlotte come to mind). Beilein is a very good coach. I'm saying I think it's ridiculous to have a posbang thread about beating a mediocre at best Nebraska team in the midst of a lost season. It's essentially the same thing as if someone put up a Beilein negbang thread after we lost to Penn state in 2013. Live in the moment. He's a good coach who has had a subpar season this year. If we are going to revel in his successes, we should not turn a blind eye to his failures (and there have been a substantial amount this year)

Los Hermanos Subs will not be deterred from cheering something breaking good for the program.

But it's not like anyone is claiming we're going to take down Kentucky or cut nets in the NCAAs.  The balance of comments on the blog is that an NIT run will be this team's ceiling.

Your question would be equally valid in the context of post-game threads for NJIT and EMU, but feels out of place here.

Nothing wrong with celebrating some smaller things.  They eventually add up, and I believe Beilein's banked the benefit of any doubts over his tenure.

That doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to the red that has accumulated this season. Maybe quite a bit of it was not his fault, but at the end of the day a team that had a great deal if talent (if you don't want to look at star ratings, look at how they played Villanova) had a wasted season. I'm not saying we should fire the guy. I'm saying I celebrate the guy when he does something awesome (like last year) and I will also review his performance accurately when the team gets a season flushed down the toilet. And make no mistake, so far that's what this season has been

Beilein develops talent as well as any coach I've ever seen.  Every single game they seem to not only get better, but in doing so find ways to overcome huge impediments.  No excuses. Just play better.

Coach Beilein is truly a Michigan Man.  Really proud of this team and their leadership.

now let's beat michigan state (even though i guarantee izzo is already coming up with excuses since they have to play rutgers away 3 days before the game due to snowpocalypse 2015)
