Jake Ryan named First Team All-B1G; other honors
The BTN awards show just finished up.
Jake Ryan was named First Team All-B1G. He is Michigan's first LB to be named First Team All-B1G since David Harris in 2006.
Devin Funchess was named Second Team All-B1G.
Brennen Beyer, Blake Countess, Will Hagerup and Raymon Taylor were named All-B1G Honorable Mention.
Devin Gardner was Michigan's B1G Sportsmanship Honoree.

Lewis was amazing this year. He was the one guy in the secondary that always showed up. I'm excited he will be back next year.

I guess the individual awards help take one's focus off of the failure of The Team as a whole.

So, nobody with a vote paid attention to Michigan's secondary, apparently.

You will be missed, Sir.

Ryan 1st team? Like, he should have been a 1st-teamer but his play at MLB didn't quite seem like that of a 1st- teamer.
Countess an HM?!
WTF are these people watching?
December 1st, 2014 at 7:32 PM ^
who should have been chosen over Ryan?
December 1st, 2014 at 7:33 PM ^
Ryan switched positions and still led (or was close to the leader) the B1G in several defensive categories. Don't let our record distract from his excellent play, especially after B1G season started.
December 1st, 2014 at 7:47 PM ^
Some of the writers for this blog continue to extoll the negatives of the move but Ryan had a darn good year at MLB, especially the later half of the year.

Der Leader, and if Der Leader only tells them boo, then boo it is.

I know the move to MLB for Ryan and the position changes which became part of the move to a 4-3 Over were very controversial on this site and others, but it would be difficult to deny that Ryan didn't take the whole thing in stride and, particularly in the latter half of the season, really did some JMFR damage out there. I think that when you can still be effective in the midst of all that, you probably deserve some recognition for it.

These are unpaid college students. Good job to all. . .
December 1st, 2014 at 7:48 PM ^
They are getting a free ride to college, which is nothing to sneeze at nowadays. To graduate debt-free is a great privilege.

Clearly Lewis hasn't paid all his pennants to the DB gypsy he still owes.
December 1st, 2014 at 7:59 PM ^
Penance. Although I suppose he could owe some gypsy some pennants too.

Jake Ryan deserves this award. He was really really good towards the end of the year ( but we'll never know how good thanks to the UFR machine being broken )
I'm just kidding about the UFR's ftr.
unless I'm not.
December 1st, 2014 at 7:56 PM ^
we need to start a movement to demand UFRs!!!

I'm guessing Bosa, Craddock and Maxx Williams were unanimous. Maybe Gordon.

They were the only 2 that were unanimous.

I hate to beat the drum again, but I honestly feel bad for these players. They came here, mostly 4 - 5 stars, hoping this coaching staff would help them develop. While not everyone will turn out to be a 1st round pick, but this is pathetic when you consider that of the 1st and 2nd team - 50 players in all, only 2 were from our favorite school! Here is the entire list - note inlcudes punters and kickers and 2 extra DBs:
Team | # of Players | |
msu
|
|
9 |
minnesota | 7 | |
osu | 7 | |
wisconsin | 6 | |
iowa | 5 | |
nebraska | 4 | |
maryland | 3 | |
psu | 3 | |
michigan | 2 | |
illinois | 1 | |
indiana | 1 | |
northwestern | 1 | |
purdue | 1 | |
rutgers | 0 |

Let's all acknowledge that these types of awards are typically given to players on programs that perform... And Michigan has not performed.
Let's not kid ourselves. If it's between two players, you award the guy whose team performed. We live in a results oriented world and it's clear that the player's performance has attributed to the success of their program.

Happy for all of them. Jake, really nice job.

Congrats to Jake. We will see him play on Sundays, Mondays and sometimes Thusdays too. Saturdays if he make the playoffs.
