Iowa QB Petras on M: "There's a lot of ways to attack these guys on tape"
Let's generate some bulletin board material for the defense! Link to full article from the Des Moines Register.

It’s pretty weak what’s considered bulletin board material these days.
December 1st, 2021 at 9:31 AM ^
"You showed a weakness to others and now I'm acknowledging it"
"WHAT???? DIS.RE.SPEKT"
December 1st, 2021 at 9:41 AM ^
What did we want him to say?: "from what we've seen on tape, we won't be able to move the ball, and I'm just hoping to get through this uninjured"?
December 1st, 2021 at 10:13 AM ^
Right. This is about as bulletin material worthy as what Cade said about OSUs defense. Reaching badly here. I don’t think the team will need any extra motivation to win a conference championship.
December 1st, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
This is a classic New England Patriots/Belichickian best practice - the players and coaches say little or nothing about their opponents before or after games.
December 1st, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
I mean, yeah? How cool would it be if someone actually kept it real like that...
December 1st, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Well, considering the statistical ranking of their offense, it would probably be more accurate
December 1st, 2021 at 7:39 PM ^
Why yes! Exactly that. No way could he possibly say it better!
December 1st, 2021 at 9:46 AM ^
That's fine, because nobody has used an actual bulletin board in like 15 years.
December 1st, 2021 at 10:07 AM ^
Whiteboard material just never took off
and I'm not even sure what you call the new fangled interactive screen things that you can write on.
December 1st, 2021 at 10:23 AM ^
Interactive screen material. Duh...
December 1st, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
I figured most modern athletic departments these days were using a tactile neuro-holographic VR display like in Minority Report
December 1st, 2021 at 12:23 PM ^
Don't start the drive if you predict a score. Just put points on the board and advance the clock!
December 1st, 2021 at 11:07 AM ^
Before 1988 was it called "chalk board material"?
December 1st, 2021 at 11:42 AM ^
Yes, it really should be called “JamBoard material.”

Man, those Iowa folks post about the most reasonable, measured, and decent words you can come up with. I wish they were nastier so I could hate them.
December 1st, 2021 at 10:37 AM ^
Hard to hate Iowa or KF. The guy gave like a million bucks to that children's hospital that overlooks the stadium and they have that tradition of saluting the kids prior to each game.
At the end of the day they're standing in between a Wolverine and it's dinner so they get the teeth and claws.
December 1st, 2021 at 10:47 AM ^
I can hate KF for horrible rhabdo incident and his non-response to it. If my kid had played hs football and KF turned up on the porch I would turn the sprinklers on.
December 1st, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
Pretty sure it was Scott Frost with the rhabdo, and Ferentz with the racism...
December 1st, 2021 at 11:33 AM ^
It was Ferentz and Doyke with the rhabdo outbreak. Of course the players got blamed for coming back not in proper shape. It's always bugged Mr how he skirted out of that incident.
December 5th, 2021 at 2:51 AM ^
Just like Ferentz' son gets no punishment for the racist stuff but the other coach gets canned.
December 1st, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
Weren’t there a lot of players alleging racism under Ferentz earlier this year?
December 1st, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
Iowa fans are very, very cool in my experience. Only other fans who even came close to being as welcoming to visiting fans were the huskers. That being said, I hope they have a rough night on Saturday
December 1st, 2021 at 11:37 AM ^
Just keep in mind that Ashton Kutcher is a big fan of Iowa, that should generate enough disdain.
December 1st, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
After Ohio State week, I approached this with genuine curiosity, "Do tell!"
December 1st, 2021 at 12:25 PM ^
It's just that "We're going to hang 24 on you!" just doesn't quite register the same.
December 1st, 2021 at 9:13 AM ^
That article is the opposite of bulletin board material
December 1st, 2021 at 9:17 AM ^
Yep, from the article:
"Michigan's secondary hasn't been as opportunistic as Iowa's, with only seven interceptions, but those defensive backs are well coached, according to Petras. He noted that there are moments when offenses can hit for big plays due to missed assignments, bad angles, etc., against some teams but Michigan isn't one of them. In order to win, Iowa will have to out-execute the Wolverines. "
It's some gentile trash talk.
December 1st, 2021 at 9:38 AM ^
My trash talk would be pretty gentile too if I was completing 58% of my passes for 6.5 ypa and 9 tds to 6 ints in the B1G West and I was about to face Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo with some turnstile-ass tackles
December 1st, 2021 at 10:03 AM ^
That stash on his lip should be enough motivation for our boys.
December 1st, 2021 at 10:32 AM ^
I didn't go to the auspicious Michigan State School for Journalisming Good, but I'm pretty sure "gentile" means "not Jewish" and "genteel" or "gentle" is the adjective for describing polite trash talk.
December 1st, 2021 at 11:31 AM ^
The article makes a point of Iowa's improvement in the last 4 games. It would be interesting to see how the counting stats look for "last 4" rather entire season.
December 1st, 2021 at 11:53 AM ^
Yeah those last four games are against Northwestern, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Illinois. I'm gonna go with low level of competition vs improvement given that they played three bad teams and had 277 yards of offense against MN.
December 1st, 2021 at 10:51 AM ^
Isn't it amazing the gains we've made across the board with the new coaches?
December 1st, 2021 at 11:21 AM ^
Those darn gentiles! Mixing meat and milk. And playing games on Saturdays!
;-)
December 1st, 2021 at 9:41 AM ^
It's more like, no shit captain obvious! Imagine, after an entire season of games there would be game film on what a team's strengths and weaknesses are?! I mean, my mind is blown!!!
December 1st, 2021 at 9:16 AM ^
Kinda tame, but I'll take anything that makes the team see red.
And unless they have KWIII, OSU's WR's or run tempo, I don't think they can exploit what they saw on tape.
December 1st, 2021 at 9:23 AM ^
I'd be more worried about them using their QB in the run game like Rutgers and Nebraska which very much did give the defense problems and almost cost us against two mediocre teams. But that isn't really Iowa and its really not Petras.
December 1st, 2021 at 9:29 AM ^
Every running QB is going to get some plays in. That is just the fact. Even Bama can't stop that. But how many times and if that QB will be durable in the second half if he does that. Rutgers is long ago. Best example is MD QB. He got some in and made some plays. But that also forced him to make mistakes because he is trying to be a savior. Iowa QB is not MD QB. If he is running around, he is in trouble.
December 1st, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
I would absolutely welcome Iowa becoming a spread team and running the QB all over the field. If they will try that transformation in one week, it would be an absolute joy to watch this game!
December 1st, 2021 at 9:54 AM ^
Petras has 5 of 17 TDs that Iowa achieved on the ground. I hope they don't even see the red zone.
December 1st, 2021 at 10:21 AM ^
True. He had a 9 yard TD run against Indiana on opening day. It was his longest run of the year. The other 4 TDs are QB sneaks from the one yard line.
Same with Padilla.
If they get inside the one, watch for the sneak (obviously)!
December 1st, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
Honestly, their QB sneak, Petras behind LIndebaum, is their best play. It sounds silly, but I'm serious - it's almost impossible to stop and sometimes they get 5+ yards out of it.
December 1st, 2021 at 9:55 AM ^
Iowa. Run tempo? ? Bro, do you even Iowa?
December 1st, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
To be fair, Ferentz seems to do very un-Ferentz stuff when he plays us (such as not punting inside our 50). But yeah, if Iowa goes tempo my brain might actually explode
December 1st, 2021 at 11:29 AM ^
He does, but it's like going for it on 4th down or kicking a field goal instead of punting from the Michigan 35. Kirk Ferentz may simply evaporate if his team tries to run tempo
December 1st, 2021 at 9:16 AM ^
I bet our dudes are pounding their lockers in rage saying “now we are going to really play hard!”
