Home and Home with Georgia in 2010-11???

Please be true. This would be awesome. http://thegame.blogs.michigandaily.com/2009/07/01/rumor-mill-michigan-t… Rumor Mill: Michigan to play Georgia in 2010 home opener? By ryan kartje, written on Jul. 1, 2009 Michigan may have found its suitor for the 2010 opening game. And it sure would beat the pants out of another matchup with a Delaware State-caliber team. Some sources tell me that the Athletic Department is looking into a home game against the University of Georgia in 2010, one that would also bring the Wolverines to Athens in 2011. Adam Rittenberg from ESPN, along with Brian Cook from MGoBlog both thought the Wolverines should look into a series with Boise State, but a matchup with a marquee SEC opponent could be exactly what it takes to sell out the newfound 2010 luxury boxes faster than a Denard Robinson 100-m time. Of course, this news is just a rumor for now, and is far from being seriously considered. So approach with caution. But if the Wolverines do welcome Mark Richt’s Bulldogs, we’ll have something to talk about. Georgia graduated the NFL’s No. 1 pick in Matthew Stafford, along with speedy running back Knowshon Moreno after finishing with a 10-3 record last season.

I love this, I doubt it will happen, but man that would be a great early September game. Oh and FIRST POST! been a reader forever just haven't signed up for some reason. But I'm here now.

if they lose to Georgia, there won't be a ton of recriminations from the media -- or the fans. And, if they beat Georgia, that would certainly re-establish the program (assuming the 09 season doesn't do it).

Whoever wins in 2010 would have an all-time winning record against the other team. We're currently 1-1 against them, with both games played in the Big House. They won the last game though, so we owe them one. I'll be very excited if this happens!

According to NationalChamps, Georgia plays Louisiana-Lafayette on 9/4/10. Their non-conf sked also includes AT Colorado and AT Georgia Tech. Also, they already have their 4 non-conference games set up for 2011. If it were to happen, the Georgia AD would really need to rejigger their future sked.

A school like Georgia? Not hard at all. They're already paying smaller schools to come in and play them. So what they say is, "We'll still give you 30% of what we were going to pay you anyway, just for the trouble." The other school says, "Cool! Money, and I don't have to lose. I like it." And they change.

In 2010, they would be starting either a red-shirt freshman/sophomore because they picked up two 4 star quarterbacks in the class coming to campus right now or a junior. I'd guess they'd start Aaron Murray who was 46 in the 2009 Rivals 100 and was really impressive in high school.

Georgia has really nice fans and travel pretty well. I went to the ASU/Georgia game last year and there were Georgia folk all over the place. The guys all wore khaki shorts with a polo shirt tuck in and either a hot or a visor; it was quite hilarious. Plus the girls are amazing so its something to look at...

I would dig. I still think the best opponent for the Michigan-is-awesome party that the stadium opener should be would be a Baylor or someone like that, and ideally Georgia would be a different week. If Georgia's on the schedule at all though I'm not gonna worry about which week it is. I'll take it.

Bill Martin doesn't have the guts to schedule a team with a pulse, and he won't give up the home gate that a home-and-home would cost him, either.

When we scheduled Utah they were not what they were last year. Notre Dame is a rivalry. I don't think Oregon was that good either when we scheduled them. It's just the ups and downs with scheduling, some teams get better some get worse. Some do both ie. Notre Dame.

We probably scheduled Utah in 2003 or later, don't you think? 2003: 10-2 2004: 12-0 2005: 7-5 2006: 8-5 2007: 9-4 And, the game was scheduled after a meeting in spring 2007, so, after Utah's 8-5 season: http://archives.chicagotribune.com/2008/aug/28/sports/cs-080828-michiga… And Oregon, um: 2000: 10-2 2001: 11-1 2002: 7-6 2003: 8-5 (including a victory over Michigan) 2004: 5-6 2005: 10-2 2006: 7-6 That's a pretty darn good decade. Looks similar to out team.

Does everyone forget that ND was and is likely to become a formidable opponent again. I think inking ND for 2 millenia is plenty gutsy. I will admit though, Georgia would be a hell of an opener for the new stadium.

The home and home with Oregon was scheduled like 8 or 9 years ago. We were supposed to play them at the Big House in '04 or '05, but, it was moved to '07.

This would be great, but if Georgia's schedule already includes two out-of-conference road games, then it's very unlikely to happen. Boise State would be an excellent opener. If Michigan schedules a tomato can then it is going to seriously test the economic assumptions present today in college football. Namely, the assumption that scheduling has no effect upon ticket sales or revenue. Next year's home schedule is truly pitiful unless Michigan lands a top 25-ish team. As the Detroit Red Wings have found out, you can go from a big shortage to a big glut when it comes to ticket sales very fast. As it stands the season ticket packages are being carried largely by one or two marquee games each year. You can buy a pair of tickets to a game like Delaware State or Eastern Michigan on the street probably for $10 or $15 apiece. At some point, fans are going to decide that it's not worth paying $350 or $400 just for one or two tickets that they couldn't just buy on the street for a couple of Lincolns.

The Red Wings have a fanatical fan base that is akin to a college football team and it was only a few years ago that there was a long, long waiting list for season tickets. Now they are cutting prices and begging people to buy the things. The point is, any sports team that appears to have infinite demand for their tickets can see that demand dry up in a startlingly short period of time. Teams like Michigan have been scheduling cupcake home games with the assumption that the fans will pay whatever the university charges for a season ticket package regardless of who the opponents are. This assumption is going to be severely tested next year if Michigan schedules another Eastern Michigan instead of a ranked opponent. So far, the only opponent on next year's home schedule for whom you couldn't buy a ticket on the street for less than the face value is Michigan State.

clearly there already are, to a small extent. but you're talking NHL in the US, a team that is the best in it's league, to CFB in the US and a team who is 3-9. if M goes 11-1 or 12-0, they could schedule grand valley 3 times a year w/ the ND game and they'll have 10,000 on the wait list again.

I don't think this is a great comparison. NHL teams play 41 home games a year. The games happen so often that even the most diehard fans probably have a tough time getting to all the games (especially the weeknight ones), so if they're feeling an economic pinch, they might just decide to buy some individual tickets instead. College football teams only play 7-8 home games a year, and they're all on Saturdays. It's a rare event to go. I don't think the average fan buys a season ticket to see the opponent so much as he/she just wants to see us in action.

As a secondary UGA fan, I will approve. UGA will be a good team in 2010 - Richt has a very young team still. UGA's offensive line in 2010-2011 will be the best in college football. They are already a good unit and are mostly freshmen/sophomores. I hope this is true...

I want to play Rutgers but they signed to play Notre Dame in South Bend for 2010 & 2011 and then at Giants Stadium for 2012 & 2013. They traditionally have a Michigan-like OOC Schedule, so probably not.

a Home and Home makes sense for 2010 & 2011. 2010 - we have @ND, @PSU, & @OSU. A Georgia home opener would give the season ticket holders a marquee home game (besides MSU). 2011 - PSU rolls off the schedule, so we have OSU & ND at home, with @MSU & @Georgia. Pretty good schedule both years. In conclusion, THIS WOULD BE AWESOME!!! Go forth and make it happen, Bill Martin.
