...about a phase of the game he would have no responsibility for?

To be honest, I think it should be a plus. Oregon could use somebody on staff that comes from a different football philosophy. We've seen how that goes--when everybody on staff is thinking nothing but spread, how to run it, how to stop it, and then you get ripped to shreds by Tressel or Bielema.

Hoke only did a couple things well.  First & foremeost was turning any large, bipedal human with a pulse into a competent defensive lineman.

Oregon always recruits well but never seemingly at the level of a national title contender. Per rivals:

2013: #22
2014: #26
2015: #17
2016: #18

Hoke might be able to sway enough CA and AZ kids to get Oregon into the top 10 - which I believe has been pretty standard amongst national champions lately

best wishes to the dude when he moved on and i really dont want to trash hoke but hes not the missing piece for oregon.  hoke will not instantly elevate oregon to "the level of a national tltle contender" (though sure, hes a solid DL coach, recruiter, and nice guy).

and others have asked if hoke has coordinated in the past - never at this level.   hoke unfortunately does not have the chops of a major D1 coordinator, just a fact

This sounds like his agent pumping hot air.  Oregon just had a major failure at the DC spot, and they're gonna go out and hire a guy who has never drawn up plays or schemed himself?  Sure.

That makes almost no sense. I could see him coaching the defensive line at a lot of places. I could also see him as a head coach at a lower-level school (where he could improve the culture a la San Diego State). Defensive coordinator at a high-profile school? Not really.

The same jokes come up every time Hoke is mentioned. "Hurr hurr he fat and he clap"

He also recruited basically the whole team we just saw go 10-3 and trained the D-line we so loved to watch wreck people this year. He also loved Michigan and tried his hardest. It didn't work out but let's not treat him like shit every time his name comes up
