Ho Jeeze: Please No Rain for Ann Arbor on Saturday
I wish I could send some southern California weather to Ann Arbor for Saturday, but it looks like it'll be cool, dry and with only 10% chance of rain, so thank Christ for that.
Wisconsin is fully aware of Michigan's struggles to hang on to the damn football this year (and last year, and the year before that).
Bret Bielema:
"Bottom line, on Saturday Indiana had some turnovers and we didn't. I think it was a point of emphasis that our guys carried forward to the game. Michigan had five turnovers on Saturday, and I know our guys will be aware of it."
Also from the MJS article:
Michigan is 1-2 at home in Big Ten play. The losses came in consecutive weeks - 34-17 to Michigan State and 38-28 to Iowa. The common factors in the two losses: Michigan couldn't stop the run and couldn't protect the football.
How true that is - and not a little bit depressing.

since it will be sunny out with little to no chance of rain, we will have no turnovers and will be able to stop the run on D?!? ... Yes! Hail, Hail ...
November 17th, 2010 at 1:47 PM ^
A quagmire might be a great equalizer. Wiscy had it easy last week, and might lose focus if they have to work too hard too early.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:27 PM ^
Nice to see that word used for once literally (i.e. not as a metaphor).
November 17th, 2010 at 3:16 PM ^
A veteran team like UW will probably be more comfortable playing in the rain than a team like us. Also, their ground game is unlikely to be signfiicantly affected by rain.
November 17th, 2010 at 1:47 PM ^
I would have to think that field turf would certainly stand up to rain better than a real grass field. However, dry conditions are certainly preferable. Hopefully, Bucky used up all of their 'good luck' against the Hoosiers. A little John Thompson type of luck would be a big plus.
November 17th, 2010 at 1:52 PM ^
I heard bucky doesn't want to do all those push ups like he did last week so he is juggling the idea of sabotaging the team this week. Not sure what he has in plan, keep posted for any updates.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:05 PM ^
Maximum push-ups that little punk will be doing is 70.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:33 PM ^
So you are saying they score 4 touchdowns?
November 17th, 2010 at 2:55 PM ^
We've scored a defensive TD every time RR has gone up against Bielema. (OK, it's only two times, but still.)
November 17th, 2010 at 1:49 PM ^
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44.
Bundle up, tailgaters...
November 17th, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
I like our chance getting the win!
November 17th, 2010 at 3:34 PM ^
In which case, we lose by 3 touchdowns.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:09 PM ^
The D may be bad, but it's gonna be really tough to lose by 3 touchdowns in triple OT.
November 17th, 2010 at 1:58 PM ^
...though the outer layer should be some shade resembling this color:
November 17th, 2010 at 2:04 PM ^
Most folks don't have maize winter coats. I know, it's no friggin' excuse...just sayin'.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:11 PM ^
me neither.
so what you do is you wear an undershirt, a turtleneck/sweater, a jersey on top, and then put on a maize-shirt or a maize windbreaker. for pants, wear some long underwear and jeans. get a and gloves hat of your choice.
BOOM SOLVED.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:13 PM ^
...poncho at the ready, just in case.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:14 PM ^
BOOM SOLVED'D?
BOOM FIXED'D.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:37 PM ^
I don't think teams win more games when their fans wear the same color. Particularly when the ones you have don't work that well (blue too dark, doesn't stand out; yellow, not enough clothes in that color, and just not that intimidating).
November 17th, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
...which helps with 1) recruits, 2) national perception (especially since the game is being televised nationally on ESPN), 3) just might give the team that little extra kick in the ass.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:57 PM ^
that looks awesome. The fans are starting to come around. At least I don't see pictures with people wearing striped polos to games anymore. Wear your damn Maize!
November 17th, 2010 at 6:19 PM ^
Thtat's the student section for ya. The other 80% of the stadium is where you'll find your striped polos.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
I think the "national perception" stuff matters more for a program like, say, Boise than a program like Michigan. People know who we are.
November 17th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
No one knew who we are, we couldn't recruit, and we never won any games till we started doing maize outs.
November 17th, 2010 at 3:21 PM ^
you're referring to recognition. people know who we are. its their perception of our fanbase that suffers.
michigan stadium has long been referred to as a "symphony crowd" that is they're there more to watch politely than to actually try and give their team an advantage. if you take a look at games in the sec (lsu, bama, even arkansas) - take a look at the stadium - look at the colors and if you tell me its not cool and impressive, you're lying. i cant tell you the number of times ive watched games on tv, seen those crowds and sadly lamented that ive never seen michigan stadium rocking like that. michigan stadium, student section post 1st quarter exempt, looks like a hodgepodge of old people who trundled out to watch a game.
changing the way we look is the first step towards changing the national perception of our fanbase being less rabid than other (and more often than not, lesser) programs. and THAT my friends, is something i feel is worth striving for.
November 17th, 2010 at 3:30 PM ^
Here's the truth: the color of clothing our fans doesn't matter. The only thing that really matters (other than winning, which is by far the biggest thing) is that the fans show up. We've drawn over 100,000 every game since 1975. That's what really grabs people.
It's weird. Much of this board has developed an inferiority complex. Our own fans are calling us a "7-5 team," as though we have no right to even hope for a win in the last two games. People are talking about how we need to build our brand identity up, despite the fact that we have a following across the country and everyone loves our fight song, uniforms, helmets and winning tradition. People: we're an elite program. It's okay to believe this.
November 17th, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
Good day, sir!!

But really, I understand students who have known nothing but disastrous football, and a non-exist basketball program, to think just not sucking is pretty good, but really it's not what it has been or should be. I swear we're turning our students into State fans. We need a little more of the arrogant asses thing back. It's ok to have nice things, we're Michigan, we deserve it.
November 17th, 2010 at 5:51 PM ^
We were an elite team, but no team that has the last three years of resume like ours can claim that distinction. If this was a one-off like Florida this year, ya-Florida is still an elite team. We will be again, but can't say that we are now.
November 17th, 2010 at 6:09 PM ^
it is 99% of the down-in-front perception (the 1% being people saying "down in front") is the key jingling. That is bush. When Northwestern did it back in the day to say "you'll park my car one day", that was funny but they really didn't have anything else. But anyone that thinks of it as some sort of noise enhancing practice...woof.
November 17th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
Although I believe this picture is from last year (hence the unfinished suites) but yes i do believe the fans are coming around as a whole in supporting the team.
November 17th, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
November 17th, 2010 at 3:42 PM ^
Since it's actually full.
November 17th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
November 17th, 2010 at 1:57 PM ^
Which does it affect more?
I have to say Michigan is more adversely affected. We need Denard to be able to make cuts and throw the ball. If that happens, and the O clicks, we can trade touchdowns. If Denard & the RB's & the receivers can't cut, it could be a long afternoon.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:00 PM ^
We had 5 turnovers in dry cool weather and then 5 turnovers in wet, windy weather. We suck at hanging on to the ball, UW does not, so advantage UW regardless of weather conditions.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:13 PM ^
We are consistent. With that consistency, Wiscy will play right into our hands.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
For some reason, this just makes sense.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
If UM stays constant at 5 TOs per game, but our competition's TOs go from 1 in dry weather to 5 in rainy, then we have a good chance at evening things up in craptastic weather!
I guess the question is do we care about our gross turnovers or our net?
November 17th, 2010 at 2:00 PM ^
Is Ho Jeeze a god like Jobu from Minor League? if so pray away my friend.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:03 PM ^
We need to sacrifice a chicken
November 17th, 2010 at 2:09 PM ^
A badger would be more appropriate.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:41 PM ^
Are you saying Jesus Christ cant hit a curve ball?
And with all the turnovers it looks like our Wolverines drank some of Jobu's Rum.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:12 PM ^
...sounds like something that's NSFW or a new name for the Rotel - Velveeta mashup.
November 17th, 2010 at 2:14 PM ^
sounds a lot like NO CHEESE!!!
