"Hello" in the making?
There is rumbling (out at Scout) that Alabama 5th year senior center/guard Chad Lindsay may transfer to Michigan for his final year of playing college football. He was a 3 star out of The Woodlands, TX but with very solid offer list.
Hope it is true - we need experience and a big body at center and Chad has both. This of course impacts the outlook of 2014 season.
Well we have 1 year scholarships open (right?) so any help on the line would definitely be welcome!
Wait, won't he have to sit out 2014 with the transfer rules?
EDIT: Nevermind...just read it in Raoul's comment.
know anything about this kid but if hes even average this would be a big deal. Hope its true.
FWIW, ESPN had him rated at the #1 guard prospect in 2010.
Did he play/ever start for Alabama ?
Started a few games when Kelly was hurt in the middle of the year. Some bama fans thought he should have continued to start after. Line seemed to get more push when he was in there.
Alabama spring roster notes: Chad Lindsay among those not listed, a slew of new numbers
Lindsay, a longtime reserve until he filled in for Ryan Kelly midway through the 2013 season and again in the Iron Bowl, would be a fifth-year senior. Because he graduated in August 2013, he is eligible to transfer anywhere and receive immediate eligibility.
Here's a bit more detail from another article:
Lindsay played eight games and made four starts in 2013, filling in for starter Ryan Kelly when he went down with knee injuries.
Was he filling in at Guard or Center? If he could play center that world be tailor made amazing
He filled in for Ryan Kelly, who was Alabama's starting center. This article from November calls Lindsay an "all-purpose lineman."
It also says a TE. Jones is transferring. We need TEs.
But just too mch talent on the line! I think he wants to play his final season.
If he does not come to Michigan then you, the messenger, are to blame!
/s
Why sarcasm. That's the way it works. BE RIGHT, OP...
I can't remember the last contributing starter who transferred to michigan for football.
Obviously we've taken very few.
Donkey lips can run block
I assume he would be considering UM b/c of Nuss. Can we get in trouble for "poaching"? What are the rules on transfers following a coach? No clue.
Saban probably called Nuss to save him from having to cut the kid. /s
But this could be a win-win-win for everyone. Saban may have been considering the idea that he'd be better off using Lindsay's scholarship elsewhere (he isn't required to give him a 5th year). MIchigan obviously needs linemen. And Lindsay gets a much better chance to start here at Michigan than he would have had at Alabama. I actually wouldn't be totally shocked it Saban was in on it.
I think its possibly more of Lindsay realizing that life after football is more than likely not in the NFL, and getting an advanced degree is important. Using athletic talent ot get yourself in the door at a place with the graduate pedigree of Michigan is an enormous advantage.
No matter what anyone says, Saban would be making an extremely bold choice not to extend an offensive lineman with starting experience when having to replace a few starters. Doubt that is the case.
I think Saban has about 43 players he needs to drop due to his 2014 commitments. He may not have been able to return. I agree though that Nuss may have felt he could help and at a minimum he may offer depth for a year. I think it's a win all around if it happens.
Perhaps most important is that he has a few years of experience playing in the system that we will now be running.
Trying not to get my hopes up.
With that experience he could help bring along the young guys.
I was expecting this to be NSFW....
If Michigan could get a player transfering due to lack of playing time, they can't do much better than taking a backup from Alabama. Plus having a senior who knows Nuss's offense at center would be pretty nice on a mostly underclassmen line.
No point in taking a guy who will only be around for 1 year and would need to sit out the critical '14 season. I'd much rather grab a good high school OL prospect...
You don't read good. He's a fifth year, which means he'll graduate and THEN transfer.
If he can help I want him.
If I'm not mistaken
Wow, this is so wrong. First, under the Grad Transfer rules he wouldn't need to sit out. He is basically a free agent. He could also provide much needed depth to a thin and young oline. Finally we have extra scholarships and would only be against this years total and no future ones.
He won't have to sit out a year. Grad school transfer, immediate eligibility.
Edit: you darn kids are fast.
Doesn't need to sit out this year. Plays and doesn't impact future scholarships
He will be going to grad school at UM and woud not have to sit out a year. He could start just ike former WI QB Russle Wilson did when he transferred as a 5th year senior.!
Man, if only there was a rule that allowed graduated players to transfer WITHOUT having to sit a year...
And a couple more like it.
can he play tackle? But very interesting news
Makes a ton of sense. Added bonus, he's a ginger.
he has an ACL, but no soul?
I hope this happens. We need experienced OL badly. Experienced at Nuss' system is a huge bonus. Yes please.
We call it "buckle up" around here
Guy who's got experience playing Nuss' system. Would be better than any other hello post we'll see this year ime

Yes. Especially the guy calling the line calls. Im now gonna be very disappointed if he doesnt come. I hope the TE jones comes too.
My goodness, yes.
Is it me you're looking for?
I can see it in your eyes.

I can see it in your smile
You're all I've ever wanted, and my arms are open wide...
Thanks, now this stupid song is in my head.
This would be a HUGE pick up. You then move Glasgow to guard and you have four choices for tackles between Bosch, magnuson, Dawson or braden.
