"Hello" in the making?

There is rumbling (out at Scout) that Alabama 5th year senior center/guard Chad Lindsay may transfer to Michigan for his final year of playing college football. He was a 3 star out of The Woodlands, TX but with very solid offer list.

Hope it is true - we need experience and a big body at center and Chad has both. This of course impacts the outlook of 2014 season.

Alabama spring roster notes: Chad Lindsay among those not listed, a slew of new numbers

Lindsay, a longtime reserve until he filled in for Ryan Kelly midway through the 2013 season and again in the Iron Bowl, would be a fifth-year senior. Because he graduated in August 2013, he is eligible to transfer anywhere and receive immediate eligibility.

Here's a bit more detail from another article:

Lindsay played eight games and made four starts in 2013, filling in for starter Ryan Kelly when he went down with knee injuries.

But this could be a win-win-win for everyone.  Saban may have been considering the idea that he'd be better off using Lindsay's scholarship elsewhere (he isn't required to give him a 5th year).  MIchigan obviously needs linemen.  And Lindsay gets a much better chance to start here at Michigan than he would have had at Alabama.  I actually wouldn't be totally shocked it Saban was in on it.

I think its possibly more of Lindsay realizing that life after football is more than likely not in the NFL, and getting an advanced degree is important. Using athletic talent ot get yourself in the door at a place with the graduate pedigree of Michigan is an enormous advantage.

No matter what anyone says, Saban would be making an extremely bold choice not to extend an offensive lineman with starting experience when having to replace a few starters. Doubt that is the case.

I think Saban has about 43 players he needs to drop due to his 2014 commitments. He may not have been able to return. I agree though that Nuss may have felt he could help and at a minimum he may offer depth for a year. I think it's a win all around if it happens.

If Michigan could get a player transfering due to lack of playing time, they can't do much better than taking a backup from Alabama.  Plus having a senior who knows Nuss's offense at center would be pretty nice on a mostly underclassmen line.

No point in taking a guy who will only be around for 1 year and would need to sit out the critical '14 season. I'd much rather grab a good high school OL prospect...
