"Hate Week" Starts Now, and It's 2 Weeks Long - Your Best Sparty Stories

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on October 16th, 2022 at 7:44 AM

Mates,

We all know that traditionally the week before our game vs. sparty is lovingly called 'Hate Week'.  Well, since we have this week off there's nothing to interrupt the time between now and 10/29, D-day for sparty in Ann Arbor.  Kind of like inflation, the normal week has now doubled to two weeks.  We all know that for sparty we're their Super Bowl and they will play out of their minds, but still, you have to think we'll be what, a 10 pt. favorite?

Let's get this sparty-party rolling.  Share you best sparty stories, your favorite game(s) v. sparty, memories, etc.

Have a wonderful Sunday and Go Blue!

2010 had to be one of the worst experiences I've had at a home game. After the game the Sparties were insufferable. One moment in particular after the game I was with my dad stuck in traffic on Main St and a college aged Sparty female literally leaned into our car through the window and was screaming in our faces. I've gotten more mature and sober since then so I won't repeat what I said back then to describe her physique, I'll simply say that hopefully for her sake her HbA1C levels have gotten under control.

As someone who got his undergrad from MSU and got shit about being an older "Walverine" while there (I was raised a Michigan fan by my alum Dad, served active duty in the Army before going to MSU, and now have my Master's from UM so it's extra irrelevant), I really, really fucking loathe the socioeconomic chestnut they always go to. They whine about the "classism" and snooty condescension Michigan alums exhibit toward their "really pretty much just as good" education, then in the next breath turn around and mock working-class Michigan fans as "trailer trash" or whatever have you.

Apparently they never ventured west of US 127 during their time in East Lansing and never observed the cesspool of semi-literate Sparty juggalos also known as Lansing and Holt. They either delude themselves that such fans don't exist among their fanbase, or occasionally you can get them to directly admit they do, and indirectly admit that what they're really pissy about is the Michigan brand is much more universal and, unlike MSU, its non-alum fans aren't mostly confined to a 50-mile radius of the university.

Many of those semi-literates actually get admitted now. MSU has lowered standards to bring in record-breaking numbers of freshmen to generate the revenue required to pay off the $500M lawsuit settlement bond and other campus deficits. They also removed degree requirements like college algebra because the lower caliber students kept failing it and couldn’t stay on track to graduate. MSU’s “college algebra” is better known as algebra II to high schoolers. It is usually taken in 9th or 10th grade.

She was probably the same bac .25 female sparty who, during that game, turned around from her seat 2 rows in front of us to yell "Fuck you Bitches" and then fell straight back off her seat  into the people 2 rows below. Not one person helped her, except the cops who came down shortly after to "escort" her out. I will never forget her ugly fat contorted face. It's a nightmare I must live with.

I don't do hate, but the first year I was hired at the hospital, during that 'Hate week' I walked out into the parking lot to find my Grand Cherokee covered in green and white streamers, with Go Green papers taped to it.

I don't know if I have a favorite State game, but my favorite moment was the TD pass to Donovan culminating in the 'Paul Bunyan'.

The team has really impressed this year; the players, the coaches, the schemes. I'm not one to look past the Sparties, but this year I think we're going to roll them.

I'm deeply annoyed that MSU snuck by Wisconsin in double OT. Giving they dumpster fire of a program any room to breathe, any reason for optimism, is going to make it much more likely we get a stupid game.

Definitely can't look past them because this is now their whole season. They have nothing meaningful to play for but ruining our good time, and that's the sort of thing that motivates those inferiority complex sufferers.

Eh, as has been pointed out, it's a good reminder to Michigan's players that they need to still take them seriously. Also, I like the timing of their bye week right after it to partially sap whatever momentum it generates (though one can also certainly argue that it's an emotional high followed by a nice little break that will leave them refreshed and ready to go back to work. You never know with student athletes).

My thing if I'm the coaching staff would be reminding the players that a combination of mistakes (both coaching and player execution), one really bad officiating miss, and most of all failing to maintain matching intensity once up by 16 deprived last year's excellent team of an undefeated regular season. And reminding them further that they are 7-0, with the bye week making this almost like a new season, and now a 5-0 finish away from achieving that unbeaten dream this year, and that this game is the first step down that road.

(1) MSU usually does well in games after a bye, while M is often flat ... so they need to be on guard for that.

(2) Win the ground game.  Historically, no game outcome is more tied to that stat than the M - MSU game, if I recall correctly.  It held true last year.

(3) Win the turnover battle.

(4) Don't use Big Ten officials! 🤬

Did you see Harbaughs presser?

he said he was congratulating Blake and others on their performance when they were headed back into the locker room and all the players kept mentioning Sparty.

this game has been on the players mind since last year.

there will be nothing but focused aggression against Staee

So much of yesterday was good: Michigan steamrolling PSU. Big games all day coming down to the wire. The buy any and every good player in the game Dodgers losing. But Staee pulling it out in the end really put a damper on things. It shouldn’t, but it did. My 6 year old son was asking who I hated more between Staee and OSU and without much deliberation I confidently said Staee…surreal.

Loss to MSU last year will be front and center to this team. You are going to see a new level of intensity from this team. Every game this year UM has come up with a different plan on offense. I expect the same this game and we will be passing more than rushing, unless the game is out of reach by the half. These last two years UM has done what it takes and not just keep doing what they are doing and hoping it will work. I know we were annoyed by the few FGs in the first half yesterday but there was a missed throw in there that would have been a TD. And that 2-pt conversion was a thing of beauty. Cade was on fire last year at this game. JJ ran the ball 7 times yesterday.

So, I am expecting a dynamic offense and there is proof that based on the different play calling in the last few games.

Defensively, we are just going to blast them. I don't see their offense doing much. I am sure Thorne and Reed will try, but I fully expect our defense to take away Reed this game.

Reed and Coleman give me pause and flashbacks to days when State would have that one receiver that killed Michigan, along the lines of Burris or Rogers. But their O-line is a dumpster fire so I expect the vertical passing game to not matter as much, as Thorne should be spending most of the day running for his life.

That said, you know there will be some trickery at some point that will get them points the stats may not bear out, and JJ and the offense need to be able to make that irrelevant.

Back when was in school, l had a sparty buddy that worked at a liquor store in EL. I was in town to go to the game and hung out at the store the night before. I had my Michigan gear on and about half the state students that came in admitted to being secret Michigan fans.

Worst was the Kirk Gibson game, which has been immortalized in the movie The Big Chill.

It's always great to take little sister Spartina (wears a skirt!) to the woodshed, but pales in comparison to games like Denard eviscerating ND, or the 38-0 drubbing of ND when the O-line was taken out between plays to give them a standing ovation (to hell with ND!), or beating Ohio State (Rick Leach, Anthony Carter, Jim Harbaugh guarantee game, Tshimunga Biakabatuka, Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, and of course, 42-27.  Did you know Michigan beat Ohio State 42-27?

That's what burns Spartina the most - that they only lie at #3 on our hate list.  Except for Sam Webb - what's it going to be like with two weeks of Sam's MSU hate?  Glorious!

Yes, I can!  The Bucks looked stunned over and over and over again as we physically pummeled them repeatedly, on both sides of the ball.  You could see in their eyes that they didn't expect to get punched in the mouth, let alone on almost every snap.  Their poor damn safeties being belted and dragged by Hassan Haskins so many, many times was the creme de la creme.  We even beat them up in the tunnel at halftime.  Oh, and the final score was Michigan 42 - Ohio State 27.
