Harbaugh Had Subs, It Was Crazy
"I said, 'Hey, let's watch the game together,' and he said, 'Why don't you come over,'" Harbaugh said Monday. "His wife, Kelli, had some sandwiches, his two daughters were there, and my son Johnny. We had a good time. It was good, excellent.
Also, Harbaugh liked what he saw. Onward to Week 2

Michigan was playing and winning while Harbaugh was literally home on his couch.
Honestly, I want video of this. We've all watched Michigan games at home. We mutter about a run for no gain. We stand up and yell for a big play. We cheer with a bit less vim for a later TD in an already decided game. How does Harbaugh handle it? Is he the kind of guy where if you're in the other room when a big play happens you know it happened because you can hear the yelling? Is he motionless? Is he sitting through the commercials, complaining about how many there are?
This is fun to imagine. Actually happened, too.

Re-upping my suggestion from the game thread: set up a live feed of Harbaugh watching the next two games, charge $100 for access, and send the money to the One More Year fund.
September 4th, 2023 at 1:49 PM ^
I'd bet that he watches with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:50 PM ^
Watch-along from the Brown Jug where everyone gets a hamburger with price of admission.
More people at the Brown Jug or the Big House? What a way to raise money and stick it to the NCAA at the same time.
September 4th, 2023 at 3:14 PM ^
Harbaugh and the Mannings watching the game together would be one heck of a program.
September 4th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
I would pay to watch that!
September 4th, 2023 at 8:04 PM ^
I'd pay money to watch him watch the game with Portnoy.
September 4th, 2023 at 1:59 PM ^
Y'know how, pre-game, he slams JJ's shoulder pads?
I hope he did it to Moore and none of the others watching with them.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:42 PM ^
They need some virtual reality deal where he gives the slaps and JJ wears a suit that shakes like a Wii controller.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:02 PM ^
Jesus. That would be gold. I would drop 20 bucks right now to watch that.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:35 PM ^
No, he was literally on Coach Moore’s couch.
September 4th, 2023 at 3:26 PM ^
This comment and all of the replies to it absolutely made my day. Hilarious. I do find it funny that everyone assumed it was subs. For some reason I was envisioning more like club sandwiches LOL.
Also I could honestly see Harbaugh not saying a word the entire game. Or for each entire half. His focus seems so tunnel visioned, maybe he cannot handle regular communication when watching a game like this.
September 4th, 2023 at 3:47 PM ^
Because of your join date, I'll explain.....former Michigan MBB coach Beilein said this, in reference to the "wild party weekend" he had with his family after Michigan advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2013 -- their first Sweet 16 since 1994. That Saturday night was "pizza and wings, it was crazy over there."
Then Sunday, "we had subs, it was crazy". And the MGoBlog quotable was born.
September 4th, 2023 at 7:19 PM ^
ROFL you're right that all went over my head. Thanks.
September 4th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
Perhaps Harbaugh scrolled thru the game thread and decided the UM fan base doesn’t like dive on 3rd and 6.
Then again, Harbaugh is apparently so stubborn that he might decide that IS the the best course or action since so many commoners want something different.
The Michigan difference.
September 4th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
Does he have a bizarre crush on Lily from AT&T? Is it just me?
September 5th, 2023 at 12:34 AM ^
Nope, not just you. Apparently she's way hotter in real life than in her AT&T persona, but I like the AT&T version better.
September 5th, 2023 at 12:52 AM ^
In real life she's apparently a stand-up comedian, but I've never seen her act. She was great in an otherwise forgettable low-budget vampire I caught earlier this year. And quite fetching as well.
September 4th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
They should have recruits over to watch together with him.
September 4th, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
As long as they don’t serve burgers.
September 4th, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
Remember guys, bagels…no cream cheese. That’s over the line.
September 4th, 2023 at 8:08 PM ^
Lox and cream cheese on that bagel and it's the death penalty.
September 5th, 2023 at 11:00 AM ^
Well, with the disclaimer that my opinion of the NCAA is shared by everyone here, I would say that burgers with cream cheese would in fact merit the death penalty.

Legendary call: “Josh (insert recruit name), this is Jim Harbaugh. I’m sitting here watching my Michigan machine grind this opponent (insert ECU, UNLV or BG) into dust and eating a sub. Wanted a burger but Brown Jug doesn’t deliver on Saturdays. What are you doing?”
Recruit: “Just watching football and recovering from my game last night.”
JH: “You can be a big part of our machine over the next few years. Then it’s off the NFL … for you.”
Recruit: “When should I visit?”
JH: “Come see our destruction of OSU in November in the Big House. This bullshit barring from games will be over and we will be 100% ready to kick the shit out of Day’s star culture.”
Recruit: “ OK.”
JH: “And you can sit on this same couch with me in April to watch 20 guys get drafted by the NFL and set a record. Then we can head to the Brown Jug for a free burger.”

Somehow two coaches watching their own team together while on suspension will turn into something the NCAA has a problem with
September 4th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
They’ll produce a highlight clip of Harbaugh watching the game on tv at home (from cell phone shots from his wife) and there will be a brief shot of Harbaugh typing something into his phone. This will lead to a massive media investigation into whether he is texting instructions to the staff at the game.
The investigation will close, the attackers humiliated, when it is revealed that Harbaugh spent his phone time during the game alternating between texting old buddies messages like “Did you see that catch???” and posting to an anonymous burner Twitter account whose content is entirely variations on “THESE REFS ARE TRASH #FreeHarbaugh.”
September 4th, 2023 at 2:33 PM ^
I'd like to think he was also posting to the MGoBlog game thread.
September 5th, 2023 at 7:45 PM ^
OMG, yes!
What would his MGoBlog name be? His picture?
September 4th, 2023 at 2:20 PM ^
I guess you didn't have to figure out the Peacock subscription. Glad Jim had it.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:24 PM ^
If I'm Sherrone and I come in and see a Jersey Mike's bag I'm pretty stoked. If I see Jimmy John's I'm cool with it. If I see Subway I'm turning around and walking the fuck out.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:25 PM ^
I hope this isn’t breaking any of the posting rules. My wife saw it in her feed.

I think it's time for a culinary/philosophical discussion about the difference between subs and sandwiches.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:52 PM ^
A sub can be a sandwich. A sandwich can't typically be a sub.
Depending on where you are in the country there are different names:
Hoagy (???)
Hero (?)
Poorboy (Cmon LA stop trying to be so different)
Grinder (weaksauce)
In MI it's a sub. Where I am now the best subs I get they call a Torpedo (same diff). And I will order an Italian 9.5x out of 10. If you can't make a good Italian sub I will likely never come back. Crusty fresh Italian (French works too) bread with sesame seeds on top. And no I don't want my sub heated.
September 4th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
Shape(s) and sizes of breadstuff resulting in differences in quantity of meatstuffs contained and ease of handling. These are critically important differences deserving much discussion. 😉👍
Also, something that Beilein would have ordered in for a crazy time ... or not.
September 4th, 2023 at 3:11 PM ^
For a cheffy move, hollow out the bread halves to increase filling to bread ratio.

Halfway through Harbaugh wanted to know where Sherrone's urinal trough was? Ahh... the good old days.

Hoagies are from Philadelphia. I didn’t always live in the Southwest.

Bring the recruits to Sherrone's house....
September 4th, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
Harbaugh was quizzing Moore saying "Give me your play call now" and explain to me why you making that call.
September 4th, 2023 at 6:19 PM ^
For some reason, my mind went to substitute head coaches. Which was also crazy, and will probably get crazier.
September 4th, 2023 at 6:20 PM ^
He should have a watch party for charity next weekend
September 4th, 2023 at 6:51 PM ^
Satellite watch party....in Georgia.....just to see the SEC go into conniptions again.
September 4th, 2023 at 7:56 PM ^
Man, this isn’t even the best part of the article. You can tell these guys love Harbaugh. What a great guy. He can be stubborn as a mule and his offense sometimes leaves me banging my head against a wall, but there’s truly no one I would rather have coaching Michigan. What a great guy. You know this is just killing him because he’s a great guy and is always trying to do the right thing and he gets pasted by the NCAA over some real bullshit.
September 4th, 2023 at 10:07 PM ^
Honestly, I’m rather disappointed. Perhaps I was not clear enough.
First, Harbaugh and anyone he would like to bring - were welcome to join us at our tailgate. I thought I stated that invitation very clearly.
Second, we had the grill going - burgers (with cheddar cheese) were on the menu - and, we had a few extra burgers.
Third, RBGH free milk was in our cooler. Now, it was not chocolate milk - and, that may have been a shortcoming on my part.
Fourth, video was available - and, he could have channel grazed - jumping back and forth with the TCU v Colorado game.
Fifth - and, candidly - I might have been clearer - Coach Moore.and his family were welcome as well.
The next two - UNLV and Bowling Green.. we’ll be there.. Jim’s most welcome.
